bluemoon.
Or more importantly, what's so bad about gesturing for it rather than just saying it to the referee?
SpinSwimScream
The same reason people dont like diving. It's just a seemingly un-sportsmanlike way to try and gain an advantage of your team. Some people hate it, some people don't mind it/have accepted it. Depends on each individual i guess.
Ninja
Yeah, thats what I've always found strange about it.
What do people think they're saying to the referee if not asking for a card?

Exactly.

Ivanovic has been absolute muck so far, surely 3 horrid games on the trot is enough to see Azpi moved to RB and Baba come in on the left. It's actually painful watching him being skinned and burned for pace regularly.

It's disgusting and foreign.
I prefer my heroes like Leighton Baines valiantly running 70 yards to make suggestions to our referees. It's what Thatcher would have wanted

Clearly, if they care so much about the booking they should learn English and harangue the referee verbally.

The downside to this game was how bad Willian,Ivanovic, Matic and Fabregas played... Wasn't fun watching!
Wonder if we somehow manage to get Pogba if we change to a 4-3-3 like the old days?

(in b4 someone says 'a Premier League winner'
chokosc
He had a good time at Barca and started very well with us. Can't doubt that he just isn't what he used to be! We need to either move him to CAM with Hazard and Pedro on the wings or get someone and try 4-3-3.
The Platypus
He was absolutely incredible for us, for the first six or seven months. Just as good as he was at any point for Arsenal.
People have short memories.
chokosc
True, but he wasn't consistent. And his form isn't great in these first three games. We really need him to get back to his form from a year ago..
Ninja
To be fair starting the season strongly and fading is a very common criticism of him.
The Platypus
Exactly. Did the same with Arsenal. Did the same with Barcelona.
Based Jorge
I don't think so. The season where he got 15 goals and something stupid like 16 assists in 27 games was incredible. Considering he was surrounded by shit most of the time it was a magnificent feat and you only have to look at him then compared to now to see that he's far more limited as a player now than he was back then. Maybe to do with the system he's currently in, or maybe that was his peak.
He was the perfect number 10 then and could win a game at any point, I reckon if you put him back there he wouldn't perform as anywhere near as well he done then.
Shola
Pelle, Mane and Steve Davis as the entire offensive end?
.verse
Playing him at #10 these days wouldn't work with the way that Mourinho likes his front players to press.
His issues stem from a combination of a lack of athleticism to effectively play a CM role which requires work both ways. The other is that we play a 4231 which simply doesn't suit some of our players. Playing with 2x CM's just highlights Fabregas's weaknesses further because Matic isn't a true holding player either and can often find himself caught upfield. We'd be a lot more organised in midfield if we switched back to the old 433 system. This gives us that extra CM body that can provide that extra run and cover to help off-set what Cesc lacks. Ideally, Fabregas suit work best working in a similar way that Pilro has played. Sitting deeper, two more mobile players alongside and this allows Cesc the ability to control play and utilise his passing ability.
As long as we continue to play with the 4321 and use 2x CM's expect Fabregas's athletic short comings to remain exposed and exploited.
