Mustapha Carayol and Emyr Huws in on season-long loans. Jordy Hiwula out on the same. Still need a new full-back to cover both sides and maybe a new centre-back and striker.

If a Championship relegation six-pointer (possibly not six-pointer in August, but still an important game) between two sides who were both top 7/8 Premier League sides only a few years ago is your thing, then Rovers v Bolton is on TV tonight.

I wonder how the guys from the tellybox keep on doing this? How do they keep on picking the most dull and least entertaining matches and put them on TV? That was bloody awful. Both sides way out of depth and frankly I'd suggest both these sides will be heavily flirting with the drop zone throughout the season based on tonight's performance.

Given how Bowyer was already under pressure, surely he won't be in the job for much longer, neither will popcorn teeth Lenny

I think it'll be a dull, low on quality 0-0 with both teams showing why they'll be right down there come the end of the season. Both managers scared to take a risk until the last 10 minutes.

I may have only just posted that now, but it's almost exactly what I'd have replied if I saw your message before the game haha!

Signed by Burnley! All seemed a bit sudden. Then again, they need a goalscoring striker, because Useless and Vokes are basically the same player (with only one being any good), Barnes is injured, Vossen is distinctly unproven and Ings has gone. £9m is daft money, though, especially for a player who has played only one season in the Football League in his career (not counting a few sub appearances at Shrewsbury at the very start of his career).

I don't know what Bristol City's infrastructure is like, but I don't think it helps that it's out in the back of beyond. It's not a London, a Manchester or a Leeds, that's for sure, so for a young man looking to make his football career it's probably not the most attractive spot. That said, Bournemouth attracted players last season, and that's a bit of an outpost in similar terms. Might also be that players don't take to Cotterill - he hits me as someone who you love or loathe on first meeting - and the club itself doesn't have a reputation as a place to go for young talent to develop. Still think they'll have a good season, though the longer they fail to invest for the less likely that prediction is to come through - if they don't make signings soon it'll be a League One squad, and even if they do make signings they might take time to settle.

Not for me to defend Bristol City, I find it hilarious that their tax dodging chairman is trying and failing to throw his money about, however I can assure you that Bristol is definitely not out in the back of beyond. It's on of the core cities in England and is very comfortably linked to Birmingham, London & Cardiff via the M4 & M5. Unfortunately, with the refurbished stadium, the money they have behind them and the populus of the area, City should be in a position to challenge the midlands clubs in the Premiership sooner rather than later...

I think you've got the Cotterill effect and the wage issue. City are quite happy to play Billy Big Bollocks with a transfer fee, but I'm not sure they can compete when it comes to the wage packet. Steve Cotterill is a grade A moron, like an unfunny version of Ian Holloway tbf and I don't think a player with true Premier League ambitions would consider Cotterill the right man to develop under.

When your luck's out, it's out.

No way we deserved to lose. No way QPR deserved to win. We dominated, but they stood firm. They created one chance - off a shanked shot which fell to their lad six yards out. To say they've spent hundreds of millions in recent years, they only had Phillips as an outlet who impressed. Austin may as well have not been playing.

We needed a bit more spark, but the result was really unfair on us. We're going through one of those patches where things aren't going our way, and it was the same at the back end of last season. On the other hand, we've only won 3 of our last 23, which is worrying. It's all well and good saying of the last 12 games we SHOULD have won 7 or 8 of them, but should doesn't win points, and we need to start winning games. A win today would have been a bonus, it's true, but we missed chances to win against a dreadful Blackburn side and a Brighton side there for the taking as well as throwing two points away in the dying seconds against Fulham. Frustrating, concerning, call it what you will. Next up: Cardiff away before Charlton away in the midweek.

Drew 1-1. Hardly a classic and Oldham should have buried it just before we equalised but yeah. Oldham fans fighting the police and themselves was the actual event for the day. You gotta love these mongs

Vaughan off to Wigan.

Sad. Such a good player, but we can't justify keeping him when he's never fit and on £15k a week. He's also no longer the force he was. Injuries have taken their toll, and he's a shadow of the player he was when he joined. Wish him all the best, but I can't help but think he'd be best off retiring and saving his body.

Butterfield off to Derby.

Lolley possibly off to Peterborough.

Three months ago we had the core of a good team. That core has been systematically sold at precisely the wrong time. If Coady, Smithies, Vaughan and Butterfield had gone at the start of July we'd have been able to sign replacements and let them bed in. I have no doubt we'll replace with decent players (Hourihane in for Butterfield, for example), but I worry that it'll be November before we've settled.

Oh, and we're in for yet another winger. Jamie Patterson from Forest. Good player, but YET ANOTHER FUCKING WINGER. WE'VE GOT THE NATIONAL SUPPLY OF THE BLOODY POSITION IN RESERVE WHEN WE NEED TWO STRIKERS, CENTRE-BACK AND VERSATILE FULL-BACK. (If someone at HTFC reads this, I'll happily be Director of Football Operations, seeing as the bloke we've got in to do the job only seems able to spot one fucking position).

Apparently we're signing Ricardo Vaz Te (who's been training with us for some time) and another defender (could be El-Abd) before the window closes.

Also, Danny Mayor has been linked with a move to Leeds. Rösler was at Gigg on Tuesday so could be true. Whether Leeds put in a decent offer that remains to be seen, but I hope we don't sell him personally.

Great window for us and about time tbh. Think it's something like £5-6m we have spent..thank fuck Bates went

Jordan Botaka arrives for a fee believed to be around £1m. 22 year old congo international winger. Could do with shipping out Sloth, Ajose and Doukara but it doesn't seem likely.

Huddersfield are destined to go down now imo. lump on lads

NEGATIVES: We didn't sign anyone

POSITIVES: We didn't sell anyone

So I expect Flitcroft to hit the loan market and the ice bath tub really hard in the next weeks

oh, and beat Accy away 2-1 in the JPT but I couldn't give a toss about that competition

With the exception of the winners and perhaps the losing finalists (trip to Wembley and everything), does anyone really care?

Well I would if we were still in League Two. But now as a league one side we can only lose. We had a miserable start to the season so I wouldn't bet on us beating any League One side for fun and losing to League Two sides is annoying in any competition so the sooner we're out of and can focus on the league the better

I don't really care about the JPT, it's another chance to get an injury; so I was a bit happy when we went 2-0 down away to the Wombles. However we managed to come from behind to win (the first time in 913 days/since March 2013) and win 3-2 so I'm at least glad we've got momentum!

Won 1-0 at Walsall today and what a win that could be to get things going. We always do well at the Bescot, I think it's 12 unbeaten there now, so we know we were capable but Walsall being unbeaten and their manager just having a Manager of the Month award under his belt we knew it was going to be a tall order.

Peter Clarke outstanding. Nothing got past him and put 110% in, Nathan Cameron has been great alongside him. Rob Lainton Man of the Match for me. His very best performance in a Bury kit, denied Mantom a couple of times, pulled off some class saves and looked really composed. Very important to get a win and a clean sheet to get things going,

Powell has got to go.

Ponderous football with players best suited to fast, attacking running between the lines and hitting sides quickly. He sets us up not to lose with a side that can't defend. We've won 3 of 24 and none in the last 11. Yet he can't see the problem. He doesn't change things until it's too late (I knew a goal was coming today about 10 minutes before it happened, and I was 300 miles away). He lets other teams off the hook, such as against Blackburn when the game was crying out for a change against a poor side to really take the game to them.

And he doesn't trust his squad. Joe Lolley could be one of the best signings we've made in years, but we don't really know. He's started just 4 games in 18 months and made a dozen substitute appearances. He's scored and assisted at a rate of one every 75 minutes or so. But Powell never plays him, presumably because he can't defend. He might genuinely not be good enough for Championship football, but we don't know because he's never had a run. When Lolley's had a chance, he's made things happen. He played Bunn (who can track back) ahead of Carayol today for God only knows what reason. Bunn's a decent player, but he's not got Carayol's pace and directness and is more workmanlike. If our left-back was a left-sided Jack Hunt, I'd understand it, but it was Tommy Smith, who's a right-back covering for the unfit Jason Davidson and who was never likely to wander over the halfway line, so we hardly needed the additional defensive cover.

We need to utilise the pace and direction of the side. Without Butterfield we're not going to thread the perfect pass through a tightly-packed defence, so we've got to keep the ball moving quickly, play out from the back quickly and use the width of the pitch to stretch teams. We've got to attack teams and get them on the back foot because that's how we're going to win points, not by setting up not to lose. If we lose 4-3, then so be it. At least we had a go. Not what we have at the moment. We're six games in. We've scored three goals. We've not won. We're one from bottom. We need a positive, attack-minded manager who will change things if they're needed. If he makes mistakes, then at least he'll make them taking positive action rather than letting things change without his input.

Powell out.

Won 3-1 away at Sheff Utd. Absolutely buzzing right now!

To be honest, this game was far from a classic. Many, many challenges, lots of hoofball (especially from United), just not a game really pleasant to the eye but I think they were the better side in general so was pretty happy when it was 0-0 at half-time. Second half we brought on Tom Pope and went two up top and that really changed the game. Pope himself slotted home the first goal for us after some sloppy defending from the United defence. After Sharp made it 1-1 with a pen I thought this was either going to stay 1-1 or we're gonna lose but thankfully Joe Riley pulled one out of 30 yards to make it 2-1 to us again and the ever-lasting running gag of Leon Clarke scoring at Sheffield away made it 3-1 to us for a brilliant 15th unbeaten game away from home.

Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Laid to rest the shambles of our away play-off defeat today by beating Wycombe. Kick off was delayed for 6 minutes because the Wycombe players were wearing monitoring equipment underneath their shirts and the ref wanted confirmation from the FA that it was okay. No one even noticed until our gaffer told the ref right before kick off.

Bury are the dirtiest side to come to the Lane in the last few seasons, how there wasn't a red i'll never know. Then again, i think the ref travelled with the Bury team, he was appalling.

FWIW it was never a penalty for us, was outside the box, so its not even like its sour grapes, the ref genuinely did have a shocker. never let the game flow..

I'd agree Jason I thought Bury were dirty as, then I saw us away at Vale yesterday. Their 9 was pure filth. Our formation, players out of position, dumb play from the keeper tactics didn't help us but we should have and would have repeated the Chesterfield result if we could've A) finished the one in a million low driven balls across the goal or B) been able to move on the ball without being wrestled to the floor. Ref gave us a lot of free kicks to be fair but there should have been another 20 fouls given. Only 2/3 yellows all game was ridiculous.

Genuinely don't know where we'll be come end of the season. One week we look like we'll smash the league the next week we're getting beaten by Port Vale. We need a solid right back and we need to play a consistent 4-4-2. Every time we've played a proper 4-4-2 we've never looked like losing. Dunno why Caldwell loves this idea of a slow build up from the back with one striker to eventually play it to. We're all getting a bit fed up of it to be honest.

I sure hope we get back to the Championship though because some of these grounds I'm going to are absolutely shocking. Oldham next away game... haha.

You can (obviously, they played on with them after a letter saying it's cool). I guess it's just the fact they didn't tell the ref.
