I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

If you applied the files from this download AFTER you started a new game, then you will have to wait until the next time that national teams are called up for the real names to appear.
Make sure that you delete the all and greek folders within the lnc folders, as well.
That's got nothing to do with this file, and you'll have to ask for help with the guy who created that file.
I don't have a Mac, but you have to look for the equivalent folder on your system. It must be there...

could you in a future update change the dutch translation of the Belgium supercup into Belgische supercup
it's always in French: supercup de Belgique.
thx
mons
I'm afraid you must not have installed it correctly. Can you tell me what error message was displayed?
It's actually in the lnc file with that Dutch text already
b13v3r
Mons,
i looked into is.
You have
"COMP_LONG_NAME_CHANGE" 1301403 "Belgische Supercup" "Dutch"
"COMP_LONG_NAME_CHANGE" 1301403 "Supercup de Belgique" ""
Its that 2th sentence which brings the name in French: you should change that in Belgische Supercup also

I see. I've changed it accordingly for the next version.
Hmm, that's strange. Haven't heard that before with this file. I'm attaching it to this post for your convenience.

"Football Manager 2016 16.1.1f740934 has stopped working"
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2016\data\db\1600
delete edt and lnc
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2016\data\db\1601
delete edt and lnc
copy FM2016 Real Names and German National Team Fix File v1.0 edt and lnc folder for both
mons
You can only use Notepad or a similar program to read the edt and lnc files. For the dbc files, you need to import them through the pre-game editor.
As per the above
To clarify, apart from the edt and lnc folders, in both of the above sections, there should also be 3 other folders named 160x_fm, 160x_fc and dbc, with x being the number of the respective folder. Is this correct at your end?
Higo Fagundes
yes, 1600_fm,1600_fmc,dbc,edt,lnc. these 5

I'm running Windows 10 too, and have no problem accessing the Steamapps folder, which I have here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps
Same location as it was in Windows 8.1, which I upgraded from to Windows 10. Presume it will be in same location even it you did a clean install of Win 10.

I deleted the inc and edit folders from the 1600 folder, then extracted the same named folders from the download in winrar to the 1600 folder thereby replacing them
I opened up the Sports I folder and in the editor data folder I extracted the real names fix folder from winrar into there.
I then saved my game ,, exit and re-started my game,, went into the world menu and checked and the euro cup aint been replaced by champions lg etc,,,, do I have to wait until I start a new save or have I missed something????

Thanks again!

Click the download through your browser link.
The instructions in the OP and the download itself are quite clear. You have to apply the files to the 1600 AND 1601 folder. That's all there is to it, and happily these changes are save-game compatible
I have no intention of releasing a new version of this file in the immediate future, so crack on with starting a new game

When I do that and asks me to save the file manually my screen freezes. I'm on a Mac, I don't know if that makes any difference.

I am on a PC so wouldn't begin to know how to help
Can you not try to download it from someone else's computer?

notify me when updated?
