About 15 months after shooting down MH17. Invading Ukraine, and seemingly getting involved in the middle east to prop up a dictator. Allegedly focusing the attack on Assad's enemies rather than ISIS specifically.

Terrorists are such disgusting cowards.

Apparently they told the ones they took hostage to lay on the floor face down so they could shoot them. Cowardly cunts couldn't even look their victims in the eyes.

Why? Because it's something tragic that's happened in Europe?

As awful as it is, it's the perfect example of how PoC are constantly ignored when it comes to their own tragic events and how white privilege reigns supreme. All the media coverage, attention and talk is about Paris. What about the events between Israel and Palestine? How about Lebanon? And everything else going on in the Middle East? There's no media outrage or an international day of mourning. There's no social media apps creating filters etc to show support. There's nothing.

No life is more important than another, regardless of race or religion.

Because we live in England, a place where its hardly picked up, because as you say, there's no media coverage in that area, maybe in fear that if they covered it, they'd be risking their lives.

Just because we don't mention it, doesn't mean its right.

On the subject of lack of coverage, heres one little thing that really pisses me off. Sometimes i'll be listening to the radio and in the short news updates the stations do, they'll say stuff like "A man has been killed...", "Some amazing thing has happened..." and then they'll finish it off by telling us about some wanker being voted out of strictly come dancing. They even do it on the BBC news sometimes, I know its their show and all that and they can talk about it as much as they want, but fuck off with stuff that isn't news. If thats what they consider news worthy then they may as well tell us who the culprit was in the latest episode of Scooby Doo while they are there. Its just sad that they'll put time on that and barely mention some of the terrible attacks that are still going on.

Because these events are (unfortunately) a dime a dozen in those parts, so while news outlets do report on them there's nothing much else to do, really.

And all the talk is about Paris because, well, it's fucking Paris.

No i'm just saying that when I watch or listen to the news, I want actual news and not updates on how minor celebrities are doing in a dancing tournament. Sky Sports News is a separate, dedicated sports news channel so I don't see how that is a problem.

You've missed the entire point. It isn't something merely isolated to these particular issues, it's a constant trend that happens. There's a choice to prioritise Western world events over that of Middle Eastern and other PoC matters. The lack of media coverage has nothing to do with a lack of media in these countries to report, it's a white privilege issue. I'm sure there are Muslims and such who have been equally affected with the events taking place in their home countries, even though they may live in Western countries now. Even the way particular events are reported. You only have to delve into the white police issues with PoC within the United States to see just how fucked up things really are. White kid shoots up a school, is portrayed as a "shy quite kid", "mentally unstable" etc. When it comes to a PoC it's completely twisted to paint a thuggish portrait and it was bound to happen. It's just a rampant and vile way the world works these days.

Shouldn't matter how frequent it is, a life is a life. That's the sort of mentality that downplays the worth of a certain ethnical group over another.

You flick through any social media or new outlet and it's Paris, Paris, Paris. Completely ignoring the other equally as devastating events taking place which are also impacting many families around the world too.

The deaths in the Middle East don't get this kind of coverage because they are old news and because people can't relate to it in the same way that they can to something closer to home. Paris is a place we are all familiar with, many of us have been there, some of us have friends and acquaintances who were either living there or visiting when the attack happened. Most of us don't have that personal connection when some loser decides to blow himself up on a bus in Jerusalem or a drone strike blows up a wedding in Waziristan. It's not a question of "white privilege", it's a question of human nature, most of us simply do not give a shit if there isn't a personal connection of some kind, unless there is something new or particularly shocking about the events.

Because we as a whole are pretty much all European apart from a few.

PoC is a shit term used by shit people by the way. If 'coloured' is a bad term then so is the social justice warrior term 'People of Colour'.

Also you may have a problem with your memory but I used to mention things like that but dregs of society on here and elsewhere like to shout it down. You were one such person who did it so it is quite something to see how you have turned you special little snowflake.

You cannot really call current events and deaths of innocent people as "old news", that's quite insensitive tbh. You personally might not relate to it in the same way, but that doesn't mean there are others around the globe who are equally as impacted as those who've been affected by Paris. This isn't a one side is better than the other argument, it's about equality for all people, of all backgrounds and walks of life.

The point I was mainly trying to project has been summed up by Hamza Ali Abbasi's post on Facebook- quoted below.

And here we go, French flag being projected all over the world and facebook makes a French flag DP filter. I wonder why FB never created a Palestinian flag filter where hundreds die each month? Or maybe a Syrian, Iraqi or Afghan flag? A Pakistani flag after 16th Dec APS attack? Its exactly this "Selective" Humanity and Imperialistic mindset which leads to hatred towards the west. I condemn Paris attack but i also condemn the hypocrisy of western imperial mindset.

Edit: Nvm.

Having been amongst these traps for a considerable time I'm also aware of the level of discussion suited and not suited to these surroundings. Normally I'd have said nothing, but when something like this is constantly in ones face it becomes a little hard to ignore eventually. And thus, I'll leave it at that before it drags on into a more personally aimed level.

This.

The Paris attacks have affected so many people because it's made them realise that this could happen to any of us, it's terrifying. Most of us know people who live in Paris, have visited Paris, friends who have friends there, people who were in Paris at the time. It's close to home.

But this doesn't mean that I don't care about the atrocities in Palestine caused by Israel. Or the loss of life in Lebanon, or Beirut etc. It's all horrible, all the innocent people dying in the world is horrible. Nobody is saying it isn't.

It's got nothing to do with race or White privilege It's because Paris is extremely close. And it feels close to home. It was Paris, but it feels like it could have been Paris, London, Munich, Madrid, Stockholm - it strikes more terror - which is by definition the aim of terrorism.

Also informing a 'PoC' about white privilege - is pretty much white privilege.

If you don't see why the biggest attack on French soil since the World War possesses a higher newsworthiness for westerners than people in Pakistan, Syria or Nigeria dying due to terrorism or "imperialism", which happens every day, then you're fucking dense.

To say something like Facebook making a flag filter is creating more hatred towards the west is a bit of an overreaction don't you think?

You're making it sound like people don't care about the horrible killings taking place in the middle east, which obviously isn't the case, but why don't you have a guess at why the western world is more worried about a western country being attacked than an eastern country? Events closer to home will always take priority in the media, wherever you are in the world.

I didn't know where to post this but the Germany-Netherlands game in Hannover has been cancelled, and the stadium evacuated, due to a serious threat.

Apparently reports say explosives were found in an ambulance. Fucking terrifying.
