I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

Put your mind at ease, this file does not edit any kits or how they are displayed in-game. I would suggest that you speak with the kitmaker to see if it's a known issue.
Not if you applied this file before starting a new game, it doesn't.
There's a very easy, save-game compatible fix.
Go into the 1600 and 1601 edt folders and delete the fake.edt and SI_team_Holland.edt files.
Go into the 1601 and 1601 lnc folders and delete the all and greek folders. Not the contents - but BOTH folders.
That should do the trick. If you're in the middle of a save-game the German national team will call up the proper players next time that squads are selected

The Champions League and Europa League name fixes aren't modified AT ALL by the 4 files in the editor data folder, but by the lnc files. This leads me to think that you have not applied this patch correctly.
Can you upload a screenshot of your lnc folders please?
I am aware of this issue and have been trying to remove it for ages without any success

Tried again with that file and it still says it may be damaged and won't extract it :-(
Don't suppose anyone could maybe create a zip file instead of a rar file and see if that helps?

There's an edit within the Club Name Changes FM16.dbc file, which changes the Olympiacos name. Remove it, then start a new game.
Check your lnc folders. I suspect the all and greek folders are still in there - remove them.
I'm equally as mystified as anyone. It is the exact same file used with last year's download, so I can't understand why it isn't working this year.
Then it's almost certainly an issue your end. What program are you using to extract it and what OS do you have?

I guess I'll have to remove the Turkish-language entries until a solution is found

Just upgraded to Windows 10 and didn't have any unpackers installed due to a recent hard-disk meltdown, so have tried the top 3 rated ones from the app store but none of them managed to unpack it. The latest one is called Opener but I uninstalled the others so can't remember exactly which ones they were.

i tried the thing in the first comment but couldn't find those files
any tips anyone?
mons
The files in the first comment are the basis of this download. If they're not there, then you haven't applied or downloaded it correctly. Have another look and find the City, Club and Stadium Names.lnc file.
Bearded Shrimper
i can see the file but i can't do much with it (apologies if i've missed the instructions)
cmair93
Can i do anything to fix this myself or do i need to wait on an update?
myars
e.g. China to CHN?

Open the file using Notepad, then follow the instructions in the very first post. Should give you the correct club names that way.
It's a known issue, and I don't know what's wrong and how to fix it, given that it's the exact identical file used to enable these changes in FM15
Erm, no. Are you sure you've applied the files correctly?

E: I'm an idiot and didn't update the db files, sorry for wasting time!

the file works, infact if you manage a team who is in EL, going into the "competitions" screen, you see that the colours are right.
the problem is only into EL general page, but it depends from the "continental" colours and not from the "competition" colours

the German national team is working but the names aren't. any help would be much appreciated as once this is fixed everything will be brilliant
cmair93
Ah, would make sense now lol. Thanks for clearing that up.
Bearded Shrimper
i didn't know about notepad. all good now, thanks very much,
if anything it's too good as i now have no idea what all the Serie A awards are now that they've reverted back to their full and proper names.
any tips for that?
Thanks again
mons
Just remove any entries which you don't want or like, and they'll take effect the next time that you load your save game.

That's got it! Should know better than to trust the apps that Microsoft recommends...
Many thanks for your help.
