Not quite happy with this one yet, but I think it's going the right way. I guess exercise gives some improvements...

Quite good indeed. However, there's a little bit of snow around the edges when viewed on a transparent background. I've never used GIMP, so I don't know if a technique like this is available on it...

When resizing the image to 180x180, you will inevitably lose a bit of quality, but that's to be expected.

First lock transparent pixels:
http://s20.postimg.org/7w7k0fdal/Capture2.png
Then pick Spot Healing Brush:
http://s20.postimg.org/wdznobfv1/Capture3.png
Use it with about this size, then left click on the edges,or drag it on the edge.If you are not satisfied with result press ctrl+z and start again.Catch only problematic pixels with the circle,if u go too deep into head,it might pick up bad colors.Experiment.This is much better way to remove snow and dirt than by using Clone Stamp in Darken mode. And it works with ears, neck and jaws, too.

So I've tried my hand at doing a few cuts, but I seem to have a lot of trouble maintaining any sort of image quality in FM.

For example I'm using this source for Mark Uth, which looks like a perfect source, good size and quality:

http://www.achtzehn99.de/assets/Portraits/2015/Profis/tsg1899-hoffenheim-portrait-uth.png

I then cut it done to this through cropping and resizing, which looks fine to me, converted to PNG:

http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc202/oblivion618/91014816_zpsmdprdrr6.png

However, it then become this in game, a horrible blurry mess:

https://i.gyazo.com/c13da193f4a4c64e30606f4a51ebdb05.png

Any tips on how to maintain the image quality actually in FM? I'm using GIMP to the cuts, is there a setting I'm missing?

@blonks92

There's a bit of snow at the edges of the cut, which is easily removed. I don't see much wrong with the cut in-game tbh, though and it's definitely not a horrible blurry mess

It's reduced in size due to the decision made by SI to have images displayed in 150x150 rather than 180x180, which is the cut-out default size. This may make the image look like it's quite blurred, though.

From a technical standpoint, they're really quite good, especially for a beginner. Almost no snow to speak of, and good hair definition especially in trickier cuts such as images 4, 5 and 8.

There's some minor things which should be corrected, however. First of all, I suggest that you use an image-hosting site which retains the filename, such as photobucket or postimg. You could alternatively list the person's UIDs beneath the cuts, because otherwise there's no way we can know who's who - other than going through all the posts on page 570 and checking them, which I've just had to do I still haven't managed to find the requests for the first and the last images, could you provide the UID please?

Some other standard practice tips:
a) try to ensure that as much of the face is displayed as possible and that there little space left between the top of the hair/head and the top of the image, as well as between the bottom of the chin and the bottom of the cut. This is not the case in images 3, 5, 6 and 9, for example.
b) Try and ensure that the face is straight on and not slanted (such as in faces 5, 6 and 7)
c) Avoid the chicken-neck effect by including a small bit of shirt, which does not appear in faces 7 and 8

Finally, image 8 appears to be on a white background instead of a transparent one.

That said, these are all quite easily avoided with a bit of attention. Looking forward to seeing more of your cuts

Just had my first go at cutting. What can i do to improve it?

First attempt: Far too edgy on the left side http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s469/v0ice0frea50n/bro%206_zpsumpunhs5.png

Second attempt: Does it look too watery and almost too smoothed out? http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s469/v0ice0frea50n/new_zpsukgtnioe.png

Third attempt: Tried to have more details this time around without being so edgy as the first attempt. http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s469/v0ice0frea50n/new2_zpscavkbaqc.png

Attempt four: Tried making it darker but it still appears dull in game and can see white/blue tinge snow I can't seem to get rid of.

http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s469/v0ice0frea50n/65033395_zps3adaxsrv.png

Attempt five: Tried making it a bit wider as looked too small in game. It just seems to lose the hair details in game compared to in photoshop or forum.
