The Seagulls; founded in 1887, have never been relegated, avoiding it 3 times for different, but fortunate reasons, after finishing in the bottom three on those occasions. Despite being disbanded twice for both wars, they were reformed both times, but still are a stagnant team since the last reformation in 1948. I aim to take the semi-professional club from the Seaside club it is to a major Premier League club challenging for titles. However, a 'side-aim' is going to be to surpass the second round of the FA cup, which is a club record

My first look around the club and we were missing some significant positions. We had no scouts, no director of football or a chief scout. We were also short of a left midfielder which translates to not having a single player at the club who can even partially play there. Also with a lack of money, I was going to struggle bringing in players for left midfield as well as all the other positions in need of improvements. I always assign my assistant manager to take charge of the friendlies:

http://i.imgur.com/aiZCKoP.png

The friendlies meant very little to me, as it wasn't a true representation of the quality of the squad. Anyway, the highlight of the games was the 2-2 home draw with League 2 side Plymouth Argyle where young deep lying forward, Bradley Ash scored as well as the Bulgarian, Tsvetan Filipov, both got goals. The downside was the 2-1 defeat to 7th tier side Yate.

These are the first transfers I have made. James Bennett-Tindall was signed before I had a scout signed. However at only 17, he looks reasonably promising and will be a back up left and right midfielder. He was signed for free from Market Drayton. My next signing, Michael Peacock was signed to replace the injury to first choice center midfielder, Jamie Edge. Peacock can play center back and midfielder as well as defensive midfielder. My assistant manager doesn't rate him however his heading and tackling is what appealed to me at 12 and 10. The final signing was a very overdue one, at left midfield. Jordan Clarke was signed for free from Carlshalton, who are in the same division as us. His final game for them came against us, which he scored

The Tactic

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/6CgmYMOP5aP0dkoJO2A8SHWDU8jqYmndzZtTXi2l.png

Potential Key Players

Dayle Grubb - He is going to be playing right midfield but can also play right wing and centre midfield and attacking midfield.
Tristan Plummer - The advanced forward. Particularly excited about this guy because of his pace. The partnership with him and the DLF role could be lethal at this level in particular
Tsvetan Filipov - The Bulgarian is the best player at the club stats and star ratings wise. He is going to be playing centre midfield on automatic he is also on cheap wages for the quality he is.

The first seven months at Weston Super Mare had been eventful to say the least... Began well, slumped to a winless streak, to the point where I almost lost my job, which was only saved by a change of tactic and being linked as the main contender to take over many higher reputation clubs in England and one in Wales despite not doing anything special, and not being a very good manager stats wise. However despite all of this, the squad looks promising following the tactic change.

January Season Review

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/FWNnVBsyf4iVwElz1elArDa3XKZ66wg71UhJTqyv.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xIybneo8tahEFVc6EdP6yRAlpkNumyfz6pQqcq13.png

We currently sit 4th in the league however it hasn't been that way for most of the season... We began the season very strongly conceding once in 4 games and scoring 13, however after the St Neots game, it all went downhill. We lost 3 games in a row, and then beat Stourbridge 4-2. However after that we had a 5 games winless streak, which meant our fourth choice striker was complaining about the club's progression. After the 2-1 defeat to Whitby, I changed the tactic to a 4321 from the Steam Workshop. The first game, we won 3-1 but then we lost 5-2 to high flyers Truro, and the board wanted to know what was happening, they gave me one last opportunity to prove myself and we, thankfully, did with three straight victories. From there we only failed to win 3 times in 12 games which is the form we need. A turning point was the 7-0 win against mid-table side Matlock. Our top scorer Tristan Plummer scored a hat trick and got an assist however in the 90th minute, he got an injury; and injury that would see him out for the rest of the season (7-8 months) with a broken leg... However there was a positive to take from it as straight after the game, 2nd choice striker and 18 year old Bradley Ash said he wanted more gametime, which he was going to get for the next 7-8 months. I was worried because we had no money to sign a new striker, and Bradley Ash had been less than clinical when he got the opportunity. But, against the odds, he decided he wanted to turn up by scoring 7 goals in 2 games... a hat trick in the first game and 4 in the second...

FA Cup

I wasn't sure where I expected to get to in the FA Cup however we made it to the 3rd round. In the first round, we got an amateur side Kennek Ryhope CA, and we destroyed them, winning 11-0 on aggregate. In the first leg, Tristan Plummer scored 4, 3rd choice striker, Scott Wilson scored and so did left midfielder, Jordan Clarke. In the second leg, there were five different scorers. Right midfielder Dayle Grubb, Jordan Clarke, Scott Wilson, Tristan Plummer and the substitute Bradley Ash were the scorers. In the 3rd round, we originally got Enfield Town and won the 1st leg 3-0 however after the game, my Football Manager crashed. So we got given a significantly better side in Brighton. We got a respectable 3-1 defeat at home with 4th choice substitute striker Syd Camper scoring a tap in. However the second leg, the difference in quality showed, as they beat us 6-1. Our backup centre back Michael Peacock scored a corner and got his first goal for the club.

Transfers

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/WPzjAepmsrNvi89JNE1eqo3tSM5jf8bB2QBpl1ho.png

I signed two new players during the first half of the season. Neither are starters however one has the potential to stay with us for a while..

Neil Marshall - Our player/coach centre-back Clayton Fortune damaged his cruciate ligaments in a friendly and was out for 10-12 months, and at 32, he would only decline and probably won't end up being good enough next year. So I brought in a cover player, who can play left back as well as centre back. Other than defensive stats he isn't very good and will probably end up leaving this year.

Jack Gwilliams - Released by Shrewsbury 3 years ago, but still has some really good potential but will currently act as a rotation option because Jordan Clarke is in really good form. However if he impresses or Clarkes form drops, I know I have a solid replacement for him at only 20.

Key Performers:

Jordan Clarke - Has been a stand out player since joining at the start of the season, being very consistent and getting 10 goals and 7 assists in 27 starts in all competitions. I think he has the potential to stay with us for another couple of years, however failing that, there is Jack Gwilliams.

Tristan Plummer - The obvious choice but well deserved. I picked him out at the start of the season as the one to watch and he has lived up to that tag. Has scored 24 goals in 21 starts in all competitions and also has 7 assists. However with him being out for 7-8 months, I can only hope he will be able to recapture his form.

Jake Llewellyn - Finally a player who probably goes under the radar, but at 18 years old he is really doing his bit for the team. Since the change in tactic he has really shone, and has got himself 7 assists from left back. Is currently my starting left back, and will be at the club for many years if I can afford his contracts.

Transfers

Joshua Williams - An emergency loan signing as Tristan Plummer was out for the rest of the season, 3rd choice striker Scott Wilson also got a short term injury and 2nd choice, Bradley Ash also got a short term injury. Played 4 times managing to score once. Towards the end of the season, he requested to have his loan terminated which I rejected but a couple of days later, he injured his hip and was out for 6-7 months so he returned to Fulham that day.

Steven Seddon - A backup left back signed on loan from Birmingham City. Our 2nd choice left back was Ollie Barnes, who isn't a natural left back and has stats more suited to the centre back role, so he became 4th choice centre back, and Seddon became 2nd choice left back. Would definitely start if he was our player but because he isn't I want to give our own player more gametime

John Phillips - The signing I was most excited about. A 14 year old regen, signed from Biggleswade Town on a free. 14 finishing, 17 flair and 12 strength and acceleration at only 14 is really promising. Is also 6'0". Will start in years to come.

End of Season Update

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/hgAlaYs7DJ1dZJRA7VWpUqyMtgTtQikOEC8Vn1bh.png

A really decent second half to the season saw us lose only twice to Stamford and Stourbridge, however they're both teams we should be beating bearing in mind we beat the top team Staines 3-1 and getting a decent 2-2 draw to runners up, Truro. However, apart from that, my only concern is the away games. A few times in the second half of the season, we have thrown away winning positions to lower mid table sides who we can't afford to be dropping points against should we want to fight for promotion.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Y0ld0Ai5verz9ZrpYJaog2OabLt9C4jgQPSD7tQA.jpg

These results meant we finished third; a play-off. We were one position below the initial expectations. In the draw, we got Chester, who were probably the hardest team we could of gotten from the draw, finishing 19th in the division above. I obviously wanted a win however I didn't expect one, given the difference in quality between the two sides.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/z73WC2zFmzC3eAlJdckXxrLSBYSaOkIBbEbTBfYd.png

A 3-0 defeat. No promotion. We performed well, given that two of our star players were injured for the game (Tristan Plummer and Dayle Grubb). We probably deserved to at least score a goal in the game, but we didn't and it wouldn't of mattered anyway. The began the game brightly and their attacking midfielder Will Summerfield latched onto a rebound 19 minutes in. We got to half time 1-0 down, but still well in the game. However 4 minutes after the restart, Ross Hannah crushed the morale of the team by scoring another rebound. As the game was drawing to its conclusion, Craig Mahon, scored a header from a corner to seal the deal. However this loss will give us a reality check, for both the players and myself as the manager; I need to know which players have a use to the club, and which are dead wood and taking up valuable money from a financially unstable club. I know where to strengthen also after one whole year with the club and which are not good enough for the next level, and shift them on.I have also signed a new 2 year deal.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xVgy3vv5FvjCZU8v0OLEy6w07QeC0R4rmutt3Rwl.jpg

Our end of season review was a pretty positive one. Our best moment was a 7-0 win against Matlock, and our worst moment was the 5-2 defeat to Truro. However the best thing on this screen is the 29 players used, which is the joint highest in the league. This was particularly pleasing because it would point to meaning that the morale is high.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/JXCPVhhTJED9UM2pzuPAHbpIeaeYOZE3cuzIFUAy.jpg

There was also the clubs end of season rewards. Tristan Plummer got the goal of the season with a great long shot against lower league Kennek Ryhope. He also won the fans player of the season with 49% of the vote. Tsvetan Filipov and Dayle Grubb finishing in 2nd and 3rd. Signing of the season was unsurprisingly Jordan Clarke who got 21 goals and 15 assists in 44 appearances in all competitions. However more surprisingly, Dayle Grubb got young player of the season at 24 years old. There were four younger players who were more deserving of the award

Key Performers:

Alex Byrne - The loanee from Exeter had an indifferent start to his season, however found his feet in the second half. He managed a 7.38 average rating in all competitions and also got 4 goals. He signed a loan extension and will be with us next year

Bradley Ash - When our top scorer, Tristan Plummer, got injured I feared we would lack a goalscorer. But Bradley Ash stepped up and scored 20 goals in 33 appearances in the league. He also managed to get 8 assists and 5 PoM awards. At only 19, he has a bright future.

Tsevetan Filipov - The Bulgarian central midfielder is by far the best player at the club, and he proved it by scoring 7 goals and getting 8 assists also getting a league high 7.82 average rating.

Transfers:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/4IJ8uRBdTRM2lM5BhytiarE22lLDos59CqarUY3Z.png

Transfers In:

Connor Cowan-Thompson
- Signed on a pre-contract in January last year, because Clayton Fortune got a 10-12 month injury, and significantly decline over the year, so I signed him as a backup. Is only 20, but is only 5'9"

Kasjusz Piowawarczyk - The 23 year old Polish centre back came in on a free from FC Romania, in England, unsurprisingly, and comes in as one of our best players and therefore our best centre back. Pat Keary, our starting centre back, stays, but he was the only centre back. Can play DM and MC as well as DC.

Harry Donovan - Jake Mawford and Danny Wring were both released, because they weren't good enough and were quite old in comparison to their ability. So Harry Donovan came in on a free after being released by Arsenal. And at only 18, he is a first team regular, and can probably stay for many years.

Rob Smart - Another 14 year old coming in on a free, this time from Bridgwater. Is now our fourth choice striker, and at only 14, is another one who can stay for many years.

David Massey - A 14 year old central midfielder, who was meant to be in the reserves, however due to injuries, has made the step up and played a string of first team football, and has a very bright future, if not with us, a bigger side.

James Fry - Brought in on a free from Leamington, and is the 3rd choice centre back. Can also provide cover at right back, if the other two get injured. Has had spells at Birmingham and Kidderminster.

Rhys Browne - Jordan Clarke broke his ankle and was out for 5-6 months, and the second choice, Jack Gwilliams was struggling for form, and didn't score as much as Clarke did. I brought in Rhys Browne as a rotational option, who can take his place if need be. Can play anywhere across the midfield and attacking midfield spots as well as striker.

Rohdell Gordon - The injuries which meant David Massey kept his place in the side were becoming more prominent, so I needed to sign a central midfielder with the quality to play at this level, which Gordon is. Can play anywhere in the midfield and attacking midfield like Browne, as well as DM and if need be DR.

Ross Doohan - Luke Purnell got a 7-8 week injury (Tore ankle ligaments), and backup keeper, Mensah Moss, isn't good enough to play 8 weeks straight. 18 year old Ryan Doohan is a backup when Luke Purnell comes back, but is good enough to play at this level.

Craig Proctor - Been watching this kid since he joined Newton Aycliffe last April, but I couldn't afford him. But this season I got the funds and signed him. Is only 14 and is really promising. He is 6'2" at 14 and has 11 marking.

Transfers Out:

Tom Jordan - The only significant departure. He was a player/coach and played 45 times last season. He didn't want to sign a new contract because apparently we didn't 'match his ambitions' but ironically dropped down a division to join Cirencester Town, but at 35 it wasn't the end of the world.

Friendlies

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/OoFW1BZCIAJ8ig9RQjPZjINSXXyD95v9sonYqnAP.png

The friendlies were a relative success. We beat Newport County 2-1 who were relegated from League 2 last season. The next game, we beat Premier League side Crystal Palace's reserves, 2-1 again. However we did lose to Plymouth Argyle 2-1, but to score is a positive considering we're 3 divisions below.

Mid-Season Update

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/PqxjzmuObRVnNv8pbnrHN0fNOX1kNs10oJkVEqdU.png

The start of the season has been more successful than last year, seeing us in 2nd. We began the season with an 8 game unbeated run, in which we only conceded 4 goals. However, the run was ended with a home defeat to Buxton, which saw us fall down a slippery slope which we didn't win for another 5 games. We have had many injuries to key players including Jordan Clarke, Tsvetan Filipov and Luke Purnell as well which has hindered progress slightly. But after these 5 games, we only lost 3 times in the next 17 games, two of the wins included a 2-0 away win against top of the league Maidstone United, which Tristan Plummer and Connor Cowan-Thompson both scored giving us an 'impossible victory' as dubbed by the media. The second one was a 2-1 home win against Concord Rangers, who were second at the time, which Tristan Plummer scored again, as well as Pat Keary. The only concern being that the most goals we have scored in a game is 4, which we have only achieved once.

Emirates FA Cup

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/6DAIC3JVphGdBD5pct8u8pMMemZnRiCGSPV0DpLf.png

We didn't get very far in the FA Cup, but we were knocked out by higher division opposition. However we begun our short stint in the FA Cup with a 6-2 aggregate victory over Durham, in the division below. Joe McClennan scored 3 in the two games. We got given Burton Albion in the next round and we lost 5-2 on aggregate, but we performed valiantly in both legs. Tristan Plummer and Bradley Ash were the goalscorers.

The Key Peformers:

Liam Dempsey - Doesn't get much praise, as, stats-wise, he is the worst player in the first eleven. However he has got 7 assists and 1 goal in 22 appearances

Harry Donovan - Was originally meant to be a rotational player but has played really well and kept his place. He has made 66 tackles, which is higher than all 4 centre backs. He has also got 3 assists and is averaging a 7.25 match rating

Tristan Plummer - He was our star player last season until his season ending injury. I was slightly concerned that he wouldn't be able to carry his form over. He started slowly, and I had to put him on either wing, but he managed to start scoring, so much so, I put him back up front, and he continued his goal scoring. He has scored 19 goals in 29 games, and is averaging 7.22 match rating.

A second half of a season which could see us either match objectives and gain promotion, or miss out on the automatic places and get play-offs. However I also achieved the first significant landmark of my short stint in management, of 100 games for Weston-Super-Mare. The first half of the season was relatively successful, but given we were favourites for the league, I might think we should be one place higher.

Transfers In:

Jamar Lawrence - Liam Dempsey got a 7-8 week injury and I wasn't prepared to give second choice right back, Ben Withey, an extended run in the team. So I loaned in 15 year old Jamar Lawrence from Brentford. At 15 years old, he will start and will obviously have a bright future for Brentford.

DeVante Jacobs - Another emergency loan signing as we really struggled with injuries. The other 3 left wingers: Jack Gwilliams, Rhys Browne and Jacob Clarke were all out with injuries. DeVante Jacobs can in on loan from Welling Town, and was one of the best players at the club for the 2 months he was with us.

Transfer Out:

Tsvetan Filipov - His contract was up at the year, and he didn't want to sign a new contract. But because of the lack of interest, he was open to a new contract, but because of the financial difficulties the club finds itself in, I was unable to renew his contract. He is going to join Vereya Stara Zagora, to return to Bulgaria. Its a shame, as he has been a great servant to the club, making 71 appearances and scoring 8 goals in his Weston-Super-Mare career.

End Of Season Update

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/kk66M9EceUBUkOIXmRWwJNIFSBDInom25B5nJT4J.jpg

The second half of the season was 100% better than the first. We lost once in 18 games, and after that loss we had a 14 game unbeaten run. In the last update, I eluded to the fact we struggled to score, and the first game after that update, we scored 5... Anyway Kiwo, Clarke, Grubb and Plummer, were all on the score sheet. The disappointing loss to Handsworth Parramore at home, meant that the end of season was tighter than it was meant to be. A Liam Dempsey OG was the source of our downfall in that match. However the main disappointment, now is the amount of draws. The 10 games following the loss, 5 of them were draws, but there is a pleasing aspect from this; At a time where we needed to step up, we did, with 4 straight wins. The biggest victory, probably, of the whole season came against Concord Rangers. At this point we were 2nd and they were 3rd. The game began with a 27th minute goal for them through Lewis Gill. Jack Gwilliams scored, for only the 3rd time this season. On the 65th minute, Lewis Gill doubled his, and his team's tally, which had me fearing the worst. However, the big man for the occasion, Tristan Plummer scored 5 minutes later. This meant we were still in second, and meant the end of season would be more nervy than it needed to be. However, the big man, Tristan Plummer, scored again in the 87th minute. This goal meant we qualified for the play-offs. Maidstone United, who were 1st at the time, lost to Handsworth Parramore (who also beat us) 1-0. This put us first, and providing we didn't lose, we would be crowned champions... Which we were

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cHdK2R6Zn2bRMIykF6MMS3nJen2qHKybQsGOMw9f.jpg

In a relatively dull game, where our key players weren't performing, it took a not-so-impressive, Dayle Grubb, to come off the bench and secure the title for the Seagulls, at last.

The Squad

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/41Hz9pTy7dAix3MCBimVTO9P31P1QsTxQzEO6vXy.jpg

Something I need to address for next season is the lack of goalscorers in the squad. Other than Tristan Plummer, who managed 29 goals, and maybe Dayle Grubb, who got 11, we lack goalscorers. Bradley Ash got 10 goals in 13 starts which is impressive for a backup. Jordan Clarke missed the first half of the season with a broken ankle, and he came back and after two sub appearances was out again for another month, and failed to recapture his form from last season. he only made 6 starts and scored once, and as a result, may have to sell him next year due to the rapid decline in ability, which is a shame given how influential he was last year.

The Key Performers:

Rohdell Gordon - Came in, in January, and has been the star player this season. Has played central midfielder and on both wings, and performed each time. I needed a right winger due to injuries, and he scored a brace. He played 22 games and got a 7.78 average rating with 9 PoM awards. Wanted more money than what we had at the time, but luckily, due to him recently joining, was unable to be snapped up by anyone else. But by winning the league, we gained the funds to give him a new contract. He is now the highest earner at the club.

Jamar Lawrence - At only 15, he is an incredible player. He has scored once and got 3 assists, and is the youngest goalscorer in the clubs history. Might try to get him back on loan next year, as I think he is good enough.

Clayton Fortune has becomes the assistant manager

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/kHmFp1Rks2ksmUmnceX0gaUITlbneJdg6OJCFGhI.jpg

Forgot to mention that, after his season ending injury, he was no longer good enough to compete at this level, and ex-assistant manager, Mark McKeever didn't think the club was good enough, so left. Clayton Fortune may not be great, but I felt it was good for the club to have a young backroom staff, who know the club.
