Lascelles was the chosen player to go before the media and said a lot of the squad lack heart, desire & hunger, and that's pretty bang on - in the first half, nobody looked like they gave a shit. Steven Taylor and Janmaat were horrific, nobody in midfield did anything of use and Mitrovic might as well have not bothered given nobody knew where he was. Top marks to Ayoze for being put off a promising dribble by running into and then over Koeman. That was an achievement.

Pardew was seen as underachieving in 2013/14 because of 5 wins in 20, or whatever it was, and it was a fair point that we had switched off badly. But that was relative to then. This is underachievement on a whole other level.
Loved the Villa fans phoning in to have a go at Robbie Savage after he said they were the worst team in Premier League history! Think he has some gall after the Derby team he played in finished with less points than this current Villa team and I think were arguably worse.

To be fair, I suppose there's a contextual point in that Derby went from 20th in the Championship in 2006 to promotion and kept more or less that squad... was never going to end well in hindsight, even with Sam Allardyce's generosity. But on a points basis, yes - Villa aren't the worst (3rd at present).

Mr. Humble himself - said that he was struggling to motivate the squad. (Remy, Sissoko and Debuchy were shameless back then) - that should have set off warning signs.

Really like Lascelles - Newcastle should rebuild around players like him next year.

Also really liked Shelvey's interview - true captain material that lad.

Watching the absolute state of Shelvey for the first two goals. Beyond pathetic.

Find the cunt so infuriating - he just watched opponents drift past him - and doesn't do anything about it - before shouting at teammates.

Fucking hell - he was to blame for the third as well - left his man again.

And yet we kept with it. I still maintain Pardew had reached his limits - hence the mild amusement at some Palace fans going #PardewOut with a straight face during their recent winless sequence - but it was also quite clear certain players were cowardly fucknuts that were content to use the "stepping stone" angle as an excuse to not do anything, and yet a lot of them are still there, or have bought new signings down to their level really quickly.

Says a lot for how woeful a defensive pair Janmaat and Taylor are that both were cheered off when substituted. A non-existent midfield was also pretty unhelpful. Sissoko looks better at full-back, even if yesterday he actually looked like he was trying - maybe he thinks he'll get a move there - while Shelvey is an ill-fitting deep role (all 3 goals have other bigger targets, although he did not help for goal 1 with a piss-poor tackle) and the invisible man that Wijnaldum has turned into was a bad choice for CM.

Makes it more inexplicable a few results going the right way gives us the possibility of survival. Not that we deserve it.

Pardew is a terrible manager, we've just somehow managed to find 2 worse than him since in Carver and McClaren, its really quite something.

Players like Shelvey and Wijnaldum are good players but theres too much individuality. We dont have a team at all, we just have a group of individuals going out and trying to play football.

It doesn't help that we refuse to buy defensive players, be it in defence or midfield.

Club is a mess from top to bottom and it won't change until Ashley either leaves or hands full control over to someone who knows what he's doing and understands football. Charnley is fucking hopeless, as is Ashley and Graham Carr is leaving a lot to be desired too.

We've been sliding ever since we spent 6m on Vurnon Anita and presuming our squad was good enough to cope with Europe 2 years after getting promoted.

I do like Jamaal Lascelles, though.

Most of your players are used to waiting 30 minutes before starting to play anyway

Today's win means Leicester are 3 wins from the Premier League title, and are (for the moment) ten points clear of Spurs.

I'm still genuinely amazed these are statements I am writing.

Its not that Shelvey and Wijnaldum are terrible players, but as well as the attitude problems, I don't think they can co-exist as a CM pairing. They need someone with bite alongside to allow them to do more creative stuff. Alas, Tiote is shit, Anita is insipid and Colback is rubbish. Yesterday, I can only guess Shelvey was the DM, and then illustrated why it was a bad idea when Shane Long walked past him on his way to the goal.

There's a worrying culture of losing in Newcastle United FC and has been since that 5th place season - 19 league games lost in each of the last three full seasons, and now 19 already for this one. We are in a fucking mess in the football side of things, and all presided over by a mass stream of incompetence in dugout and boardroom by everyone involved. This culture that requires a colossal shift in mindset, maybe even a mass clear-out of a playing squad that has had many of the same names for most of it and who have failed time & time again.

Would rather this be done in the Premier League than the Championship, but we clearly never learned from the sins of those three campaigns, and appointing McClaren pretty much invited a repeat.
Remember when people called Pardew the next England manager

I thought that was just us being sarcastic.

Then again Patrick Barclay seemed genuinely crushed and angry we dared to criticise Pardew.

Pardew gets so much stick for having a good season with Palace. - Comfortably surviving two years running with a poor side after spending a relatively small amount of money and now with a trip to Wembley?

Like I've seen no one have a go at Sanchez Flores for having essentially the exact same season. (One point more than Palace - and spent more money) - No criticism for 'next England manager' Eddie Howe for also spending more money and no trip to Wembley (4 extra points, 1 extra game played)

Pardew 26 points from 19 games - 52 points per season
Carver 13 points from 19 games - 26 Points per season
McClaren 24 points from 28 games - 33 Points per season
Benitez - 1 point from 4 games - 10 points per season.

For comparison Pardew is set for a 45 point season this year - and with Palace took 32 points from 19 games - set for a 64 point season last year with Palace

That Derby team just got promoted way too early and were nowhere near good enough. They at least tried in all their games from what I remember and kept fighting. This Villa side haven't seemed arsed since day one.

Leicester result was great, can't see it slipping from them now. If we take anything off Spurs then its over for sure.

There's a pretty major logic deficiency running through this post that its a real job to know where to begin.

How can you compare Pardew to Sanchez Flores and Howe?

Palace finished 10th in the Premier League last season - Watford and Bournemouth were playing a division below. Different expectations as a result of this and so QSF and Howe have performed much better than Pardew this season. Simple as that.

Anyway, delighted for Leicester

How you can say Palace are having a good season is beyond me. Slipping from 5th to 16th while getting 1 point in 4 months isn't something i'd call good.

Rashford, Martial, Lingard, Mata are looking far too lightweight against this Spurs defence. Getting pushed off the ball constantly with ease and their only tactic seems to be running straight into them and losing the ball.

On the plus side the defence has been very good, especially Fosu-Mensah. It seems we can only do one or the other.

We put Young/Lingard in the fucking middle and Martial/Mata on the fucking wing.

This is horrible.

I really really can't see how the club would want to keep LVG for another year. It makes no sense at all. There should be no doubt in him going, its baffling.
