For anyone saying I should've kept him in Bulgaria to gain citizenship there, I couldn't, as my feeder club got relegated, and were not allowed to loan any foreigners.

players that are only playing u21 football are unlikely to be called up to senior international squad, they need to be playing regular first team football to get noticed, you yourself admitted that he was sitting in u21's for a season. he can't get a work permit because he hasn't played the required percentage of international games during the period he has been with you, i believe a player has to play 75% of international matches within the last 2 years to recieve a work permit and that is simply not going to happen when a player is only playing u21 football for a whole season. i don't think it would of mattered even if he had been called up to african nations squad, the ship had probably already sailed by that point as far as playing 75% of games is concerned. your mistake was bringing him back to your club and putting him in u21's for a season, you either play him in your first team, send him out again to another feeder club or sell him, putting him in the u21's achieves nothing. as for the reason why you can't extend his contract, you don't have an available feeder club to send him to, i believe that is the reason...

i understand you couldn't send him back to the same feeder club, i was talking about sending him to another one. if you keep tabs on the feeder club's fortunes and see that they could go down and will have to terminate the loan then you can make plans ahead of schedule to deal with that situation, its your fault for not planning ahead. having done a little research i believe there is a rule when it comes to contract extensions which states that when it comes to players who are not currently eligible for a new work permit the player has to have played 70% of contracted teams first team games that he was available to play in for you to be able to extend his contract. (i can't find specific information about how long a period that takes into account, is it 70% of first team games over the past year or is it over the last 20 or 30 games that he was available to play, that i cannot answer). in any case he has not achieved that 70% figure so you can't extend his contract, and he has not played the required number of international games so he can't get a work permit, your only option is to release him and move on. i hope i have managed to clear things up for you...
