I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

Yes it can be opened by using the import function...

Unfortunately I wasn't aware that with the winter update it's changed the team names from Portugal and I'm already in a fun save so I don't want to start again, so I'll have to put up with SLB instead of Benfica

Thanks for the kind words
Keep this in mind for the future - when a new official patch is released by SI, the licensing files will almost always need to be applied again, so keep an eye out for this thread (or its FM17 equivalent ) in order that you have the latest files available

No but this is.

Is there a way to get Flamengo back to normal without having to download the new 'Real Name' fix?
I've made a lot of my own changes in the past, so don't want really want to do it all over again. Thanks for any help.
mons
There is a licensing.dbc and licensing2.dbc file iirc, both of which need to be deleted. The Flamengo file is the licensing.dbc file iirc.

I have followed these instructions;
/ Users / username / Library / Application Support / Steam / SteamApps / common / Football Manager 2016 / data / db / 1630
Where I get stuck is when I go to my user name there is no Library folder.
I have found the Library folder somewhere else so when I click it, that is where Application Support folder appears.
I then click the Application Support folder and the Steam Icon appears but that only opens up the Steam programme.
I can't find anywhere on my computer the Steam Apps folder let alone the rest of the folders in the chain eg common, Football Manager 2016 / Data / db / 1630??
Can someone please help me?
I've been trying for over a day now and I have even reinstalled Steam and FM16 to see if I have made a mistake?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Thank you!

I must have missed this, sorry.
I'm afraid I don't have a Mac so I can't really help. However, FM and Steam must be installed somewhere, mustn't it? It's just a case of finding it. Try checking the FM properties within Steam to see if it gives you the installation path, for example.

I managed to figure it out! The files here hidden. I downloaded a programme that shows me all of the files that are hidden.
Thank You anyways for your response.

Why do my tactic screen look like this? (colors in the tactic screen is transparent) I followed the steps in the description....
Everything else seem to be fixed though.

Why am I still getting 3-letter names for Brazillian teams? Example INT or SPL? Do you know what I could be doing wrong?

Shortly after the release of 16.3, SI released 16.3.1, with the only change appearing to be the change in the name of Brazilian clubs. If you downloaded v3.0 of this file for 16.3, and did not download v3.2 for 16.3.1, then the above is what happens. This is why I always say that one should re-apply the files from this download every single time that SI release a new patch, no matter how slow. Unfortunately, these changes cannot be changed for a save-game
I'm not understanding you - have you applied the editor data files from this download or not?
I have no idea, I'm afraid, and it's not got anything to do with this file which makes no graphical changes whatsoever. Perhaps it's a skin issue....

Which part in particular are you struggling with? Have you watched the YouTube video for visual guidance on how to correctly install the files?
Shaytp99
Yes I have, I've downloaded the files and then replace the relevant files (lnc etc...) and then place the correct files in the editor data. When I load the game up nothing changes
mons
You need to place the edt and lnc files in the 1600, 1601 and 1630 edt and lnc folders. The dbc files in the present download are ideally to be used only when placing them in the 1630 folder.
Can you upload screenshots to confirm all of the above are in place?
Shaytp99
there you go
Shaytp99
Do you want screenshots of 1600, 1601 as well
Shaytp99
thanks for all your help btw

I need to see the contents on the edt and lnc folders, sorry for not having been clear.
Not if you are starting with the 16.3 database.
Let's have a look at the screenshots and it can be easily solved
