I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

yes they're in all three folders
mons
Then all the files and folders are as they should be

I'll play to the next National team matches (March or June) and then I'll report if there are real or fake names, thank you for your time and for your incredible work so far

Not really as they should be installed in separate folders altogether.
Can you upload a screenshot of the contents of the folders in which you have installed these files? It may be a case of you not having installed them correctly.
Also, which aspects aren't working correctly?

And you how can you tell it isn't working? Is the Champions League name renamed correctly? Does the German national team have real players?

That's the issue, then
Make sure that you have the edt and lnc files from this download in the respective 1600 and 1610 folders That should do the trick.
I can't remember off by heart as I've deleted them, but in the 1600 or 1610 dbc folder, there is a file name Licensing.dbc (and possibly a brazil kits.dbc, or something similar) - make sure you delete it too.

Same thing with Olympiacos Pireaus. In the original winter database it is Olympiakos Pireaus. It is changed to Olympiacos Pireaus in this file. I want to change it back, but the changes are not saved.
If I change Sporting CP to Sporting Clube de Portugal, or Sporting Lissabon, will I lose all nicknames, or just the one from this club?
mons
Jorgen
I choose winter database > import > Susie dbc file > edit > export > same name > save
If I then reload that dbc file and check Porto, Benfica, Sporting and Olympiakos, all names are the same as if I have never edited them. Strange.
What also is strange, is that the editor is not asking me if I want to overwrite the existing file. Like it automaticly declines saving it, without saying something about it.
Any ideas?
mons
Can I have a screenshot of where it is saved please? Both the main editor data folder and the one from this download please.
The editor automatically saves as fmf. With the old file being dbc, it cannot overwrite it since they have different file extensions, so what you're saying isn't really possible. I suspect you're doing something slightly wrong, but without seeing your folder structure, it's a bit difficult to pinpoint the issue...
Jorgen
I just copied and pasted the link from Windows' File Explorer
Main location of the FM2016 editor data
All Susie files are out of any folders and directly put in this same folder. Which contains the config.xml, the Susie real name fix and some other files, like pr0's update.
A screenshot from that folder:
Edit 1:
Strange thing is, I also changed two city names (namely Frankfurt -> Frankfurt am Main and Frankfurt/Oder -> Frankfurt (Oder)) and those 2 names are saved in the file. So why the other things are not, is a complete riddle to me.
Edit 2:
Even stranger, I tried it again just a few minutes agao and now it is saved to the file. It created a .bak file too. However, the editor never asks me if I want to overwrite the existing file. So why it did work now, and most times did not, I really don't know.
Edit 3:
Saw that the same 2 files were created in the parent folder too, so deleted them. Now after reloading the file from the editor data folder, all club names are as I want them to be. So perhaps that was the problem. The files were correctly saved but to the wrong location. Still puzzled why it never asks to overwrite with an dbc file.
Edit 4: I tried loading a.fmf file and edit that. Saving afterwards showed me that the editor isn't aksing to overwrite .fmf files eighter. I think that is a flaw, or a bug. All programs ask to to this, but not the FM editor. I also deleted the .bak file, as I guessed it was only temporarily and I have no use for it. Was that correct?
Edit 5: I loaded a new game, all changed names showed up as I wanted them, except the Portuguese shortnames. I only got the longnames as I wanted them. Ideas?
Anyway, a lot of work, for only changing 5 clubnames and 2 city names.
mons
A .bak file is a backup file automatically created by the editor when you load up a file in order that you can always revert to an old version if you had saved by mistake on something which you did not want any more.
Re: edit 4, there's an option in the editor with which saving automatically creates a new file, perhaps it's ticked in your case?
With regards to Portuguese shortnames, the game is hardcored to have identical long and short names for Portuguese clubs, for licensing purposes. There's nothing which can be done about this, unfortunately. Or at least, nothing I know about.
Jorgen
About the long/short names for Portugues teams: now I have 2 different names shown in my game: the shortname, as it was in your update (and which I altered) and the long name that I have specified.
This is how it looks in the editor:
The short name as shown in the search box of FM16:
The longname as shown on the club's homepage in FM16:
Notice how I don't have Sporting CP in my editor file, but it is shown in my game when using the search box for example.
mons
Any changes you make to Portuguese club names in the editor will not be considered by the game. The only changes which are taken into consideration (for Portuguese clubs only, I repeat) are the ones in the lnc file:
If you want to make changes to Portuguese club names, then you must edit the lnc file contents
