The Ajose one is new. We need a big, strong striker, that much is for sure. We need another option beyond Nahki.

Which seems strange, because Ajose is neither.

In other strange news: Phil Parkinson has talking over at Notlob. Big of a step down from Bradford isn't it?

Makes me wonder if there's something in the Wells to Sunderland rumour. I'd be surprised at that as I don't think he's quite Premier League class and I don't see him fitting in with an Allardyce team, but stranger things have happened. Ajose as a direct replacement, perhaps?

Could be a clearing of the decks at Bradford, to be honest with you. I've heard whispers of a certain German coach with League One experience going to Bradford, and it could be seen by the new owner as a chance to install his own manager. Bolton will get themselves a good manager, to be fair. Not one who'll play exciting football, but one who'll get the defence sorted and will get the players committed to the cause.

Wells is similar to Defoe no?

Defoe is in a different class to Wells. Wells is a very good Championship player, no doubts there, and he's come along massively this season playing the lone front role. But he's not got that something that Defoe has. He can't occupy defenders, he's not got that little bit of vision which sets him apart, he's not quite as clinical as he would need to be in the Premier League. His all-round game is good, but not quite good enough. Realistically, if a top Championship side wanted to improve their front line, he'd be their man at about £6m (allowing for the stupid fees for the likes of McCormack and Rhodes), but I can't see him cutting it in the top flight, not at 26. That said, he was a very raw 24 when he signed for us, and he's developed massively since then.

@Vercoe Our local radio reporting we are in talks with your centre half Peter Hartley. Any good? He was the lad who got clattered by Akinfenwa?

Yeah he is, and that's what you get with Pete, he's a decent league two centre back who'll put his body on the line and block anything. A little bit slow so he works best as part of a 3 in central defence rather than a 2 but as long as he's got someone with a bit of pace he's alright. Brave as anything, good in the air, hits a fucking hard penalty too.

I'd liked for us to have kept him really but he's recently got married and wants to move back up north for the sake of his new family, you'll have a good centre back on your hands if you sign him.

Nice one, he's being dubbed as a potential replacement for one of our centrehalfs (Toto Nsiala) who hasn't signed his contract yet (mulling over his options apparently). Personally I want Toto to re-sign, which would mean we would have 3 CBs on the books.

Apparently the loan rules are changing for the coming season? Which may mean we end up with a larger squad before the end of the transfer window.

From what I understand there will be no more emergency loans (except for 'keepers, maybe) so it's whoever you can get in on loan from window to window. I think the point of it is to emphasise on youth but fuck knows with the Football League, they're wankers.

I see, and yes they are indeed......

Premier League clubs allowed into the Football League Trophy. I despair. Absolutely disgraceful.

Honestly can't believe the under 21 PL teams being allowed to play in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Why change it? It was perfect to give fans of League 1 and 2 clubs the chance to see their team lift silverware at Wembley......now it'll be Chelsea under 21 v City under 21

The U21 teams in the JPT thing is a joke, nobody benefits from it at all. It just makes it harder for L1 & L2 teams to win a trophy. It's a shame Steve McNulty is no longer in the Football League, would've been hilarious just to see him smash all the cocky kids in the U21 teams who think they've made it because they play for a PL reserve team.

Nobody cares about this shit competition anyway, crowds were shite anyway, so let the U21 teams play in it in front of 200 people, tell them to fuck off, and so be it.

If an Premier League U21 side went toe-to-toe with a top League One side the League One side would wipe the floor with them. Whilst I'm massively against having Premier League U21 sides in the FL Trophy, I don't think we'll see them winning the thing and taking glory away from proper clubs. Still agree with you, mind. Completely unfair on proper clubs for whom this is a chance of getting to Wembley. Seriously devalues an already not very valuable cup.

I disagree, team do care about the competition, it represents the only chance at some silverware for some, and isn't that ultimately what teams play the game for? Allowing the Premier League to hoard players and then complain that they're not getting enough action is wrong. Allowing them into this sets us on a dangerous slope of the Premier League entering teams in a League 3 and screwing over the whole football league pyramid. B teams should not be allowed in any format in any competition.

Peter Hartley has signed for Bristol Rovers so that's one target gone.

Our defenders Toto Nsiala and Richard Tait are both leaving. Toto has signed for Hartlepool today for some weird reason and looks like Tait is off to Motherwell. Still waiting on Nathan Arnold and Padraig Amond to sign deals, although it looks like Amond is on his way too. Gutted.

We've signed a right back from Boston United, highly rated but unsure if he'll be able to step up two levels straight away. Hoping that we go in for Andrew Boyce, released from Scunny.

Gonna be a busy few weeks for us!

And for us, we only have 4 contracted players for next season as it stands, it was 3 before Ryan Donaldson signed for us today.

Nathan Arnold is leaving us too, so that's basically the whole of the promotion squad gone, bar Macca (Keeper), Shaun and Josh (CBs), Disley (Captain) and Bogle (Striker). Throw in the two new fullbacks and we've got 7 players... (We've also got 3 young pros but not really counting them as they're unlikely to be involved much).

Still waiting on Amond to decide on his contract, should hear news today as that's his 28 day time limit.

STOP THE PRESS WE ACTUALLY SIGNED SOMEONE!

Antony Kay joins us from MK Dons. Vastly experienced Centre Half, but haven't seen him play recently. Just hope he doesn't replace Cameron or Peter Clarke.

He's...

Well, we signed him in 2009 as a central midfielder after being converted at Tranmere from centre-half. Now he's back to being a centre-half after Lee Clark realised he's as comfortable in possession of a football as someone with constipation is trying to shit a battleship. Good League One defender, but starting to knock on a bit. I'd always prefer Peter Clarke to him, tbh. He's also prone to being a bit of a nob on occasion, giving away daft free kicks and having a crap celebration. He'll be ideal for you to progress up the league, I'd have thought.

Actually sounds half-decent, so well fucking done Flickers! At the moment, nobody knows who is staying and who isn't, just rumours circling around that one of P.Clarke / Cameron, possibly even both might be on their way out but one shall wait and see. And appearantly we are signing someone on friday but we were signing 5 on monday aswell so it's all a reeeeeyyyt laugh up here.

Some signings for us today!

Andrew Boyce re-joins from Scunny, and Rhys Browne signs from Aldershot! Dominic Vose also at the training ground looking round this morning, fingers crossed that'll be a done deal too.

And Ben Davies is on his way from Pompey if the rumours are to be believed. Bit on the experienced side of 30, but decent player nevertheless!

Tough start for us then, suppose our game vs. Fulham will be televised since it's a Friday night? Our first home game will be against Huddersfield.

Any away game is tough in this division, lad!

We're up against Brentford at home first, then yourselves and Villa away. Barnsley and Wolves at home complete August with a trip to Leeds starting September. Being honest, I like the look of it. Winnable home games, decent away trips where (for two of the three) we're in with a real fighting chance and all we need now is a home League Cup draw to top off a good start to 2016/17, at least on paper. Quite happy with it.

I know after being relegated your not supposed to be excited for the coming season but I'm actually finding it quite refreshing seeing the fixture list and all these teams we don't usually play, maybe be able to get some away days in at grounds I've not visited before.

Also there are lots of local derbies which should be fun. Derby, Forest and Burton are all closer to me than Villa Park is so convenience is also a bonus!

Same.

I don't get why football fans really cynical of the Premier League and money but then are scared to lose it.
