I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

had anyone issues find "common" folder on Win10? I've followed path Program Files \ Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ football manager 2016 \ data \ db \ 1630
but there is now such folder, what can I do?
mons
I've just installed FM on a Windows 10 machine this morning and Steam/FM immediately afterwards and I confirm that the folder path is indeed correct. FM has to be installed somewhere after all, no?
If the common folder is not there, what's in that path?
Czechgooner
You've got a point mate. "FM has to be installed somewhere after all, no?" I've just realised I change a disk where I install all steam games so "common" folder can't be there. Sorted.

Great fix, congrats
I chose not to use the files that go into the Editor Data folder. So I only did the the steps 1, 2 and 3. Will my game have problems? German teams do not have the real names, but I dont mind it. I am talking about problems like bugs that wont let me continue playing
From my experience, anything that goes into the Edtor Data folder is trouble (all custom databases create problems, like duplicated players)
Thanks

Hi there. You can of course choose not to use the editor data files. There's a workaround to the club name changes fix in the OP if you're interested, with which you can avoid using the editor data files.
However, rest assured that the files in this download do not edit any players at all. They just edit club name changes and edit media sources and journalists. They've been in place for a number of years, and they don't cause any problems whatsoever. Definitely not in my saves, anyway...

What changes aren't working? Keep in mind that whenever a patch is released, then some of the licensing files are automatically re-generated by Steam, hence re-enabling some of the issues which this file removes.
Checking the 1600 and 1601 lnc folders and make sure that only the 3 lnc files are included and delete any other sub-folders. Also check the 1600 and 1601 edt folders and delete any SI_team_holland.edt and fake.edt files.

I start a new game and the option to select 'winter database' is selected, however no changes once I've started the game.
Any ideas?
mons
The option to include winter database is an effect of the official patch. The real name fix and the transfer update are separate things. Can you upload a screenshot of where you have placed the files from this download pls? So I can check if you have installed them correctly...

1. Competition colors won't save. I normally edit the "euro comp colors" file a bit, making a few competitions different colors. Just preference. Always done this on different FMs. For whatever reason, my changes aren't importing into new saves. Only thing I can think of is all EU competitions (Champions League, Europa League, U21 Championships, etc. I've tested) colors are controlled by the continent Europe's colors. Stumped.
2. Some competition names won't update via the lnc file. So, this is weird. I made a few changes to the comp names lnc files (which I have installed in all three 1600 1601 and 16300 subfolders) out of preference. When I go back into the game, the name of the comp I edited has changed to the default name, not my edit, not your edit - the default name. Ended up sorting a few via a .fmf file which worked because I couldn't get it sorted. In the past I've had no issues with lnc's updating right away, and like I said, my entire game is using it and 100% perfect minus the changes I make and save in TextEdit. I've done this for years, no clue what's going on.
I'm using the pr0 updated database and a file which edits some kits and club colors, as I always have. Has to be a cache issue, fmf issue (I'm new on FM16, these were always .dbc's) or conflicting files somewhere I can't find.
tldr - colors won't update and some names won't update using the lnc. I don't know what's up.
None of this is a big deal or worth wasting time with, just wondered if you'd heard any of this before.
Cheers.
edit - Figured I'd ask while I'm here - is there a reason you include a lnc club name fix as well as a dbc file name fix? I know the dbc takes priority if changes are made. I'm just wondering if there's a rhyme or reason for which are on each file.

1. Okay, I'm not going crazy then! Good to hear.
2. I think you're right. I just edited the comp names lnc to make the "Barclays Premier League" long name simply "Premier League" and the changes immediately took effect. For what it's worth, I had issues getting lnc changes to work in Malta, the Faroe Islands and China if I recall correctly.
Ex: I changed the lnc short name of the Chinese Super League from "CSL" to "CFA Super League" just out of preference. From that point on, the game recognized the short name as "Super League", which I'm assuming is the database default. I went against my general rule of changing comp names anywhere but the lnc file and created a quick .dbc to fix the name which worked a treat.
The issue has to be a conflicting file or something hard coded/cached as like I said, the lnc file is working and editable (my Premier League change worked perfectly, just as I'm used to in previous versions.)
3. Ohhhh, duh. I should have known that. Got it.
Thanks for the response. Hope some of this info is useful. Like I said, everything on my end is sorted now so don't worry about it. Fingers crossed FM17 has a few less quirks.
Also, from someone who knows how tedious editing can be, a giant thank you for putting out this top class file year after year. Couldn't play without it.

I edited the wording in my last post a bit if you want to take another look. More or less the same thing.
If you actually want to test this, try to change the Chinese Super League short name [currently "CSL"] through the lnc. I ended up having to create a small .dbc fix and edit the lnc to make it take effect, neither on its own would do the job. Has to be a weird conflicting file or caching bug, like I said.
Again, no rush. Doesn't really matter to me now, I'm just a perfectionist and like to report things that seem out of whack.

Thanks for the real names fix, but this works only for FM Classic and no with FM Touch. With FM Classic Career, i've got Schalke 04 but with FM Touch i always got Gelsenkirchen Is there please a reason and a solution ?

Please read the first post and follow the steps outlined there

I deleted the hashtags in the inc file for both Bayern and Schalke and it works. Thanks very much mons

It was only a minor update and in terms of this licensing fix, it has affected nothing at all. So you can carry on as you are, basically

Your save game was probably started using the default database (to which you have probably applied this download), while your save game is with the updated database with the January transfers. I suspect that you have not downloaded and applied the latest version of these files into the 1630 folder. Can you check please?

Perfect thank you, fixed perfectly

I did everything as instructed, but Germany is still with grey players. Help please?
PS
League names did changed..
mons
If you installed it in the middle of a save game, then you have to wait for the next instance where national teams call up players. Additionally, make sure there are only 3 files and no sub-folders within the lnc folders in the game installation path.
