Goalkeepers: (Danny Ward - seems a done deal if rumours are to be believed), Joel Coleman, Joe Murphy
Defenders: Tommy Smith, Jason Davidson, Mark Hudson, Martin Cranie, Christopher Löwe, Christopher Schindler, Michael Hefele (still need at least one additional right-back)
Defensive midfielders: Dean Whitehead, Jonathan Hogg, Philip Billing, Ivan Paurevic
Attacking midfielders: Sean Scannell, (Aaron Mooy - again, seems a done deal), Harry Bunn, Jack Payne, Rajiv Van La Parra, Joe Lolley, Kyle Dempsey
Strikers: Elias Kachunga, Jordy Hiwula, Nahki Wells
I make that a squad of 24, which is still slightly too small in my view. We need another right-back for cover, a replacement for Hiwula (who Wagner clearly doesn't rate) and some of the youngsters to come through and make an impact because of the ending of the emergency loan window. Hanson, Senior and Booty might be able to make the step up from what I've seen, but I suspect the likes of Charles won't make it. I have to say, though, that we're in a better position than we were last summer. If we bring in another 2 or 3 it'll be seen as tweaking - the bulk of the squad is in situ at the start of pre-season which is a massive bonus to allow players to bed in.

This summer feels like it's getting silly. I've actually lost track of how many we've brought in and I've not heard of half of them, if I'm honest. Hard not to get excited about it, but we are a work in progress despite the transfer activity. An overhaul of the defence in particular was needed, and it's likely that the only survivor from last season's regular back 4 and goalkeeper will be Tommy Smith. The thing is that I along with most Town fans trust Wagner more than previous managers, and it's clear Dean Hoyle trusts him more as well. A top half finish would be a good season. Play-offs feel achievable. It all feels so much more positive than last year, when Kyle Dempsey was our big summer signing.

Hudds' signings kind of make me believe that this is gonna go very right or very bad. No inbetween.
Fruther, it reminds me of when Di Canio took over Swindon, signed a shitload of Italians and foreigners, who all turned out to be quite shit and literally bought the league in the winter transfer window

He should do well for you, he's solid. His distribution isn't the best but that's not what he's there for really, he was comfortably our player of the season last season. Quicker than a lot of people realise too.
He's definitely good enough for the PL, I half expected someone like West Brom or Palace to come in for him this summer. In fact he was one of our better players the season we went down and that's when he was 19/20 and was 'managed' by Steve Kean. Should get better and better under Rafa.
Meanwhile we continue to sell our best players, replace them with loans and freebies, and have Owen Coyle in charge

I imagine either Brad Guzan or Mark Bunn are on the move then. Guzan got a lot of stick last season for some silly mistakes, though to be fair he kept us up the season before, any keeper in the world would struggle with the standard of defending we had last season.

Reports in that big EPL academies have rejected the offer to join the EFL Trophy. Makes sense for them to reject it imo and hopefully the FA will now realise their folly in trying to implement this.

We've also confirmed Danny Ward on loan from Liverpool for the season, with Kasey Palmer from Chelsea rumoured to be imminent. Mark Uth rumours won't go away either; it seems we've bid €1.3m, which could quite frankly be anything in pounds these days. Wagner wants the squad assembled by Friday, so it could be a busy week before the friendly with Oldham (no, I'm not going, do I look stupid enough to trek over to Oldham for a pre-season friendly?) and next week's clash with Liverpool.

Only if he makes good packed lunches and can clean his own kit. If so, then it's the best place in the world for him on dole equivalent pay.

In fairness, you beat us and Derby last season so can't read anything into it.
Signed Kasey Palmer on loan from Chelsea. 19, England U21 international attacking midfielder. Yet to make his professional debut but, from his U21 record, looks like he could be a real bright spark in and around the area. I also had a look at the team for today's friendly, bearing in mind 5 first-teamers couldn't play, and it finally looks like we have options all over.
This second goal...

More interestingly were the names who appeared as trialists today.
Richard Chaplow, Neil Danns, Mickey Demetriou. Danns I think was good, the other two decent but interesting to see the likes of Danns and Chaplow amongst us. Would be happy to sign them given past reputation

Did you go mate?
gfnx25
Yep, I'm at a stage of life where i just don't care anymore and even go to shit uselss pre season stuff
EDIT: While you're here: We also had a young CB called Sam Lavelle on trial. He was at Blackburn as far as i know. What's he like? Played today, but hard to judge when his partner at CB is Chris Sedgwick and a 17 year old CM is at RB and 16 year old at LB which went on to cause complete carnage
BR.
Not sure unfortunately, he never made a first team appearance, don't think he ever made the bench either. I thought he was still here to be honest haha playing for the under 21's, probably best he moves on though and plays competitively.

Future of Thauvin, Sissoko, Wijnaldum is obviously up in the air so they'll need replaced if they leave.

Most of the time that drone was the sound of madness between the ref's ears insisting he gave free-kicks for sod all, but after an hour it was an actual drone hovering over the ground for about 5 minutes before the police sorted it out. Never seen it before. It was bizarre to see.
We actually played all right but for the fact we had no cutting edge up front. I expect six of that Liverpool side to start their opening fixture and we played two different teams, but we weren't outmatched and played some good stuff. 0-2 was harsh. First goal came from Van La Parra not tracking back and the defence getting pulled over, whilst a penalty in the 90th minute was the second - questionable decision to say the least. I was right on top of it and I really don't think there was any contact whatsoever, even if Cranie left himself exposed by diving in. Still, Alberto Moreno showed he's a nob by not allowing the teenage goalkeeper Liverpool were forced to bring on up front after injury to take it.
Liverpool's front three were good. Coutinho, Mane and Firminho. And we dealt with them well, by and large. Good penalty save from Coleman after he brought down Mane after they took the lead with their only real shot from open play. Lolley had a great chance to put us ahead before then, but brought a top save from Karius. By and large, our shooting was powder-puff even though we had more of the ball and created more from open play. A few bright sparks - Mooy was good, as were Billing and Dempsey. Schindler looked composed and the pick of our quite impressive defenders. We definitely still need another striker.

Football wise, I think have signed some crap goalkeeper from Oxford United.

I'd love to go on an away trip to Blackpool in August mostly for the great piss up but my Argyle partner-in-crime is married and so is under the thumb, I'm going to see if he can convince the missus to go too seeing as how she came to Wembley...
I'm re watching videos from last season (I watched the whole of the play-off second leg vs. Portsmouth earlier in work because we have literally fuck all on at the moment) and I'm so fucking buzzed for next season.
gfnx25
also signed some crap player from us. Joking asidde, Pugh is finshed at L1 level but might do alright in L2.
Neil Danns has signed for us today after being on trial. Should be a decent signing. Only concern I'm starting to have right now is that our squad seems to be quite old. Should be looking at youngsters to bring in on loan because at this rate our average age must be something like 29 or so
