I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2016 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM16.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install this version of this file
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Android:
Step 2: Delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the path above
Step 3: Copy the dbc, edt and lnc folder from this download into the folders mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM16 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.1".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Take care to remove any previous versions of this file
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMC. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

Did you also install the editor data files? They are an integral part of this fix, as the vast majority of club name changes (including German ones) are changed within these files. These changes must be put into place BEFORE starting a new game, unless you want to use the process highlighted in the first post of this thread.

In step 8 it says that you should only have this folder (REAL NAMES.......) and a config file. Well, I have a file with my own edits. I would hate to have to delete that. Is that really necessary?
mons
It doesn't really say that's the ONLY folder you should have, although I agree it could be worded better.
I run some 40 other files alongside it, for example, and they all work fine; you can keep your file alongside the one from this download and you should have no problems whatsoever...
loadyth
Thanks again! Yes, I almost lost my own edits, due to that misunderstanding.... luckily I found the files in the bin
Day Tripper
was 'Barclays Premier League' - now 'Premier League' (Full and short name)
was 'Sky Bet Championship' - now 'Sky Bet Football League Championship' (Sky Bet Championship as short name)
was 'Sky Bet League 1' - now 'Sky Bet Football League One' Sky Bet League One as short name)
was 'Sky Bet League 2' - now 'Sky Bet Football League Two' Sky Bet League Two as short name)
was 'Capital One Cup' - now 'EFL Cup' (Full and short name)
was 'Johnstones Paint Trophy' - 'EFL Trophy' (Full and short name)
I tried to change these on my own data editor and although the changes showed up on the playable leagues selection screen; they did not show up once the game loaded so I presume the Real Name Fix files are overriding my edit file?
I've changed all the logos and they look great so just want the names to match.
mons
You need to change them from within the Competitions and other Fixes.lnc file and not editor data files
I don't really have any intention of releasing a new file just for a handful of changes at this point, to be perfectly honest...
Day Tripper
How do I go about changing the Inc file?
Day Tripper
Don't worry, managed to work out how to do it myself! Very straightforward! Cheers for the help mate.
mons
Good to hear that - hope it all works out fine
If not, then feel free to revert
Day Tripper
Just tested it. All working fine!

hello , congratulations for the work done .
unfortunately I can not change and enter the nicknames of teams .
why they are not displayed, even if I change the date editor ?
mons
Once you start a save-game, then you cannot change nicknames, as far as I know...
MarcoVanb
but I modify the database and then create a new game , but nothing happens
mons
Can you upload the editor data file to a file-sharing website please so I can have a look at the file?

I am playing a game with the latest patch and this real name fix applied, however after advanced in half of a season i realized that some of the African National Team's squad, such as Ivory Coast, are all fake players. Any idea how to resolve that?
Note: Japan and Germany squads are display correct, real players for me.
Thank you very much for your support!
mons
That's a strange one, never seen anything like it. Are you using any other editor data files alongside the ones from this download?
Kaiwan
Is that the correct way to do this? Not all African team affected by this problem, only some like Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon ..., some even has only 1 guy in the squad lol. Some other teams are fine though, like Nigeria.
Many thanks for your help mons!
mons
That looks fine.
When you make a search in-game for famous Ivory Coast players, such as the Yaya or Kolo Toure, Gervinho, Drogba etc, do they appear?
Kaiwan
Guess i will start a new game with the latest editor files and see how it's go

Seems I've installed the files correctly, I have the German and Japanese national teams fixed, cups and leagues names fixed as well, corrected the german club names following your instructions and the only problem I've noticed is Brazilian club names which still appear as three letters. Installed the patch mid-save, playing on 16.3.2 version.
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Edit. After browsing some more posts I understand it's possible to fix the german club names by removing the hashtags, but is there a similar way to fix the brazilian club names or I just have to start a new game to have it work properly?
mons
I'm afraid the Brazilian names issue is one which cannot be fixed mid-save game
Yegallut
Thank you for a fast answer, well it's not a big deal. You guys doing a great job, keep it up.

However, there seem to be only two variables - SHORT_NAME_CHANGE and LONG_NAME_CHANGE. Their use is obvious.
Is there a similar command for nicknames, six letter names and second nicknames?
Also, is there a complete listing of commands that work for LNC files, EDT, DDT in FM2016 somewhere out there?
Thank you
mons
There's actually another variable, "NAME_CHANGE", which changes both long and short names at the same time.
As far as I'm aware there are no lnc commands to regulate the other functions which you are requesting. There is however as superlative a post as you can wish for on the sigames forum on this matter and to which it would be superfluous to add anything. Do keep in mind that it was posted in 2009, but by and large most commands still apply
Hope this helps

I'm afraid it's not got anything to do with this file, since there are no player edits in it. I suggest you post in the forum thread for the data update.
Hope this helps
