I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released and when the full game comes out to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMT or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2017 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly.

Just to confirm, is everything working except for the media? If so thats good enough for me, and i'll start a long term save

Yes, although there are still a handful of very minor club name changes to be input (we're talking lower league clubs from various countries here, so it's far from crucial) and some other minor absolutely non-critical changes.
I've taken half a day's leave so I can get home early and get cracking, with a bit of luck I may be able to release the media files quite soon. I'd hold off starting a new game to be honest, as by waiting a few hours you would then be able to enjoy the full file's benefit. Up to you, obviously
Ok, i'll wait haha Thanks for all your hard work btw, I use this every year, and FM wouldn't be the same without it.
mons
Sorry to hear that. What exactly isn't working? Please be specific and give me examples as to what should be changed yet isn't; help me help you
Slates84
Was going to ask about your ETA on this, no pressure at all was just wondering if it's worth waiting for the media files as I was going to start a save this weekend?

One quick question... are the yearly awards fixed as well? I see two different "Player of the Year" awards with one ending in 2009.... Isn't there a FIFA"s best now?
Actually, looks like your fix adds Coach of the year, but it's populated with past Player of the year winners...
mons
Come on man, the answer to your question is in the very post you are quoting.
There are now separate awards in-game, and in this file, for the Ballon d'Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year. As for the Coach of the Year, for the short name I mistakenly used the same UID as for the FIFA World Player of the Year. Good spot and will be rectified in the next iteration of the file. This change will be save-game compatible, thankfully.

As you mentioned, I found out pretty quickly that no database could be found. Got everything working now. Thank you for your work, Mons!
varyy56
Apologies if this was answered already. Thanks for all the hard work, been coming to this site for many years now!
Erick1011
Pretty sure you need to start a new save in order for the Germany team to start calling up real players.
MrGizMo
I am going to wait for the media files and then i can start Didnt even play the beta

a) Make sure that you have applied this fix to all 3 of the 1700, 1701 and 1710 folders. It may be the case that some of the licensing-related files from the SI installation were re-generated during the process of updating the game from the beta to the full version. There's screenshots of how the lnc folders should look in the main text. Re-generating the German national team is save-game compatible, but you will need to arrive at the next instance when national squads are called up for this to be displayed
b) If you had applied the # workaround in the first post to your files during the beta, then I'm afraid that the new files will have overwritten that. You'll need to re-apply that fix in your City, Club and Stadium Names.lnc file (in all 3 lnc folders again). Again, this is save-game compatible

I hope you never feel pressured and know that your work is very much appreciated.
Thanks so much for your efforts every year.

Thanks u guys

If it wasn't for this website I doubt I would play FM to be honest, so thanks to everyone who contributes to making this website. Your hard work is very much appreciated.
javier_83
just one question, if i have a saved game can i still have the name change for the teams??
ok i just realized that if i start a new game i will have the real names.
thanks again!!
Regards!!
mons
Yes, by following the steps in the first post.
javier_83
Thanks a lot!!

Can you pin point the steps to do this? If I search on the editor I do find Fifa Coach of the Year but seems the UID is static....

Open the Awards.lnc folder with Notepad (or Mac equivalent) and do a search for: ## INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
The below are the correct entries for the Coach of the Year:

At the moment I'm focusing on the media files, but I hope to have the time to further investigate this issue later this weekend. I have to say, though, that I've not encountered this issue in none of my test games, so I'm not sure how I can be able to reproduce it...

Is this in the middle of a save game or starting a new game?
Can I have a screenshot of your editor data folder please? Showing clearly the folder path it's in.
rjhsteel
Yeah had the same issue, but i'm guessing thats because i started a game in the beta. So unless i want to lose the club nicknames and do the work around as quoted in the first post, i will have to start again....
This correct?
