I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.

This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released and when the full game comes out to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.

Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMT or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2017 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.

There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

Follow the below instructions to install this version of this file

You can get to the Library folder by simply selecting Go from the top bar and holding "alt" key - The Library folder suddenly appears on the drop down

For Mac Lion users, the Library folder will be hidden. Use this link to find out how to show it.

STEP 2:
COPY the dbc, edt and Inc folders from the downloaded pack

STEP 3:
PASTE them into each of your respective folders mentioned in step 1.

These are what the folder structure should look like in all 5 of the 1700, 1701. 1710, 1712 and 1730 folders:

http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u344/maltamons/dbc%20permanent%20folder%20fm17.png~original
http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u344/maltamons/edt%20permanent%20folder%20fm17.png~original
http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u344/maltamons/lnc%20folder%20fm17.png~original

STEP 4:
COPY the 4 files located in the EDITOR DATA folder in the downloaded pack

STEP 5
PASTE to
\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017\editor data
This should be what your editor data folder looks like now (with 5 files rather than 4 as in this screenshot. There may initially be a config.xml file in this folder and it can be safely overwritten; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly.

Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.

Yeah had the same issue, but i'm guessing thats because i started a game in the beta. So unless i want to lose the club nicknames and do the work around as quoted in the first post, i will have to start again....

This correct?

Yes.

Although i just had a look at starting a new game and the crap club names are still there....

Then you'll probably have installed it incorrectly. Can I have a screenshot of your editor data folder please? Showing clearly the folder path it's in.

rjsteel: I believe the wrong team names may still be seen in the menu where you can select your team to manage when starting a new career, but thanks to the patch, when you proceed to the actual game/career and start playing, it should all be shown the way it's supposed to.

That's my understanding anyway. Try it out.

Sorry to burst your bubble but that's definitely not the case.

I installed the most current fix, and Brazilian teams still have that silly 3 letter name, Real San Sebastian, etc, but CL and Europa and everything else is correct.

I started a new game to test and the Brazilian names are all correct along with everything else...so I am assuming you need to start a brand new game to have all those names completely correct.

Open the Awards.lnc folder with Notepad (or Mac equivalent) and do a search for: ## INDIVIDUAL AWARDS

The below are the correct entries for the Coach of the Year:

"AWARD_LONG_NAME_CHANGE" 13157107 "FIFA World Coach of the Year" ""
"AWARD_SHORT_NAME_CHANGE" 13157107 "World Coach of the Year" ""

Thank you! I just realized you're not done with the updates, what exactly are these media files you're working on? is it worth waiting or it's just minor changes?

By the way fantastic work!

I'm looking for volunteers to do some quick testing on another setups so that I can confirm a theory I have. PM me if you're interested.

All they will need to do is to start a new game or 2 with a selection of media-related editor data files I'll send them.

The quicker more people PM me, the quicker an update will be out to include the media files.

It adds real-life media and journalists, with a number of media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. i.e instead of the Florence Football Gazette, you'll see La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting on Fiorentina etc etc

For Notepad, all you need to do is: Select the edit menu, click the replace option, type #CLUB in the first field and CLUB in the second and clicking replace all. Then save and close. Shouldn't take more than 3 seconds if you do it right

Just a quick, we have to type #"CLUB on the first field and "CLUB on the second field before clicking on "replace all";

Thanks mons!

Remind me, what was your issue exactly? Appreciate if you could quote any previous reply I gave you for my ease of reference, as I'm trying to help out so many people I just can't remember you all

The folder structure there seems fine. Are you saying that if you load a new game, then club names are still wrong?

Is there a reason that Internazionale is called INTER and not Inter after the name fix? All with capital letters.

v1.1 just dropped. It includes a number of small, mostly minor additions and corrections in the respective lnc files, but this is mostly to include the media files.

It includes the bulk of last year's media files, with the exception of the Australian, Belgium & Benelux, German and Italian media files, since these are not being loaded by the game. I'll investigate to see if they're salvageable in order to possible include them into any forthcoming versions of the file.

I'm always looking to add and tweak to this file, but it'll be mere nitpicking. It's good to go

And the editor data file is in place, right?

Works fine here. And I've given you all the files I have at my end
