I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released and when the full game comes out to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMT or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2017 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. The new release seemed to fix it. Thanks mons. You are a legend!

Just a quick note which is not a big deal for my first save at all.... The Coach of the Year is not even a thing on this save, it has been replaced by World Football Player of the Year

There are 4 files in my Editor Data folder, not 3. Do they all need copying across?
Thanks for all the effort!!!

Hi,
Just a quick note because looking at the replies I think other people have been confused in the same way I have been - if you're checking that the fix has worked via the editor then the team names will still be wrong (Gelsenkirchen, San Sebastian etc.), but these will be fixed on starting a new game if everything has been followed to the letter.

for a future update of your work:
the stadium of dutch team PEC Zwolle has changed his name: it's now "MAC³PARK stadion" spelling like this.
the old name doesn't exist anymore

Go to: Documents \ Sports Interactive \ Football Manager 2017
Step 5:
Open the folder named "editor data" contained therein. If it does not exist, then create it. There are 3 files in there, copy them.
Step 6:
Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and copy the 3 files previously selected
Step 7:
Paste this folder into the folder mentioned in step 5. If there is already an earlier version of this file in that folder, then it MUST be deleted before."
Oh come on, FFS. First of all there are not 3 files in Documents \ Sports Interactive \ Football Manager 2017, there is one, a config file.
"go back to the file you downloaded and copy the 3 files previously selected"
Why can't you just NAME the files? You mean DBC, Inc and Edt? The files I just pasted into 1700,1701 and 1710? Because those are the ones I 'previously selected'.
"Paste this folder into the folder mentioned in step 5."
What? Paste what folder? So paste the '3 files previously selected'? So paste DBC, Inc and Edt into "editor data"?
What about the folder named "editor data" that is in the .rar that we download?
How is this the official guide?

It's fine in the file
Of course you can, it's your game
Just keep in mind, though, that if you do delete that file, then you will also lose the corrected German, Portuguese and Spanish club names.
Thanks for this
Forgot to amend that particular part in the installation instructions, but yes you should copy them over.
It's not hidden and nor should it be Have you managed to find it and can you give me a screenshot of the place where you are looking for it?
Thanks for this
The opening post contains screenshots to make sure any misapprehensions are allayed. Hundreds, nay thousands of people have installed it without any problems. It therefore looks like you are the problem then and not the instructions Could the OP be worded better? Perhaps. Does it merit the above rant? Certainly not.
God knows I'm more than happy to help, but people like you who whinge, moan and complain without even considering that the problem could possibly be at their end and try to shift the blame on somebody they're getting free stuff from really piss me off.
Appreciate the kind words from everybody; I do all this for the community and also because, being selfish, I want my FM experience to be the best it can be. Might as well share the fruit of my labour at that point
As explained in the opening post, club name changes are made through the editor data files and these are not save-game compatible. There is a workaround in the first post on how to get club name changes working in a save-game, but the payoff is that you lose the respective nicknames. Let me know if this helps
Four is the correct number. There were 3 in v1.0 of this file and there are now 4 in v1.1, but I forgot to amend the OP accordingly. Will do henceforth
mons
Is this in a save-game or a new game?
If in a save game, read and follow the instructions in the first post for them to display. Doing so will however mean nicknames for these clubs are lost.
If in a new game, you need to make sure that the dbc/permanent folder in your 1700, 1701 AND 1710 folders is like this:
and that you have the editor data file in place.
