It seems that part of his hair is missing from the top right and the collar needed a tiny bit of cleaning on from left, but that took me two seconds to fix so it wasn't a big deal in this case. I would personally clean up the collar too, but that's not something you should worry about and the overall quality seems quite good and it's definitely acceptable with the hair fixed.

In the opening post,
Gimp : Smoothing edges :
the link is dead

So here is a link I just found in google :

https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-selection-feather.html
(change language in the upper menu)
« the “Feather Selection” »

Don't know if it is relevant. Is it ?

Gimp's not exactly ideal for cutting tbh, although it does the job.

I would suggest you start with easier, plainer cuts on a clear background to start with in order to get more experience and know-how

Hiya there, it's not bad for a first cut and kudos to you for trying

However, to be a truly good cut, the hair details would need to be much better defined because there's some strands of hair in the source image which were not included in your cut. There's also some facial hair on our right which is not included in the cut. In cases where the source image has a difficult background or is not of a very quality, I could ignore these, but with a source as good as that, it's a pity not to make full use of the quality provided

What technique and program are you using? I recommend starting with more simple cuts at first, with high-quality sources for players with no or closely-cut hair on a white background and then start increasing the complexity of the cuts as you keep learning to improve your cutting skills.

Good luck and I hope we see more work from you soon

I'm using Photoshop. It was a simple cut out as I wanted to discover a few things and test them. Now I'm trying with the Background Eraser Tool and although it seems pretty boring at some point, I'm managing to extract a few more parts of hair: https://s24.postimg.org/bdlpe22rp/image.png , but there are some parts of the hair (the smaller ones) that I can't seem to extract.

Hi there. Since Vincent Schmidt of FC Twente's face wasn't in the database on this website, I decided to make an attempt myself using GIMP at making a cut out for him. Now I know this isn't exactly the best cut out in the history of cut outs, but that is not why I am here typing this message. For a reason I can't figure out, his face won't appear in-game for me. I'm quite confident it has something to do with the image I've created and nothing with the xml file, as I've used images from this website before and manually put them in xml-files without any issues. What am I doing wrong here?

Can you right-click the image and choose properties? Check if the extension is in capitals (.PNG) rather than lower-case (.png). If it's the former, it won't work...

I'm doing some missing players and updating others from the 2017 Flamengo squad. Does this look good?

Hi there. It's pretty good for a starter, but there are some things I have to point out.

I've taken a screenshot of how the image looks on my Photoshop screen, zoomed in to focus on the details.

http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u344/maltamons/Capture_17.png~original

Around the head (circled in blue), there's a little bit of what we call snow, i.e. white/coloured pixels which are not immediately evident on this white-background forum, but which can be seen in FM, especially when you play with a dark skin. Ideally, when cutting you avoid these altogether. In cases when these are still evident, there's a very easy fix to remove them, as demonstrated in this very short YouTube video.

Also, you should take care to retain a little bit of the collar (circled in red), in order to avoid what we call the chicken-neck effect and to ensure that the style complements that used by SI in the licensed cutouts

This is what the end product could look like (I cheated a bit and inserted a small white collar out of nowhere, but a cut from the source would include the actual coloured collar):

http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u344/maltamons/Capture2_1.png~original

As you can see, there wasn't much tweaking to be done, although I have to say that it appears to have been quite an easy cut, with a relatively straight-forward hairstyle. It only took me 30 seconds maximum

I hope you take this advice on board and that we see more cuts from you in the future Feel free to post here if you need more help

I'm attaching the final cut as per the above. Can you let me know the UID please, so that I can add it into the megapack if need be?

P.S. Since I don't have access to the source image, I have no idea if you sharpened or removed noise from it (although I suspect you did). I would suggest you avoid tweaking the cut in this manner, unless absolutely necessary

Hope this helps

Fixed it adding the real collar

EDIT:

Also made two other players to test it out:

Quite good, albeit I haven't seen the original source, so I can't be sure. No snow as far as I can see. Feel free to upload them in the request forum

Looks to me like you're removing noise a bit, am I correct? Try to avoid it, if possible.

Looks like the source is just a little bit smaller than the required size, and so when you increase the face size, you lose a bit of sharpness. Nothing you can do with that, apart from using larger sources, but that depends on their availability...

Sorry mate, missed your first post.

The first post has a section titled Tutorial Videos, with video links on how to use Refine Edge and Vertus, both methods are among the most common used to cut.

Hope this helps

Please do it, but not only pics with a background of just one color like Santos FC, do it with some pics with the background like this: http://surgiu.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/25884019890_88b28b6d62_o.jpg
As major pics that i want to cut have an "ugly" background hahaha

To start with, you really should attempt the easier cuts, then only move on to the harder cuts once you have grasped the basics. It's like trying to enter the Tour de France a couple of weeks after learning how to ride a bicycle
