I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released and when the full game comes out to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMT or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2017 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. Can you check the same path except without the x86 part? It must be somewhere, after all, otherwise the game wouldn't be running.
I told you broadly the same things but at one point you seem to have stumbled on the solution.
Having had another look at your screenshot yesterday, make sure the files are in the same path and structure as the below screenshot.
Bearded Shrimper
not working still sadly. I'm not sure what I should be copying across to where. The German team is working but not the names.
I'm only a few games into pre season with my first game so i'm happy to start that again but, from what i can see, everything is as it should be in terms of the files being where there they should be. is it worth a remove and re download the game and files?
or any ideas?

This download contains a folder named editor data, which contains 5 files. Put these in Documents / Sports Interactive / Football Manager 2017 / editor data. They must be directly in this folder, and not in any other sub-folder. The path must be exactly as the screenshot displayed above.
I would like to see a screenshot of where the files are, if possible, so I can verify that the above is indeed the case.
I've had this plenty of times before, and my answer is always the same. The game must be somewhere, so have a look on your computer for it. That should be the default installation folder for it..
Bearded Shrimper
here you go mate, that's the path and the contents of the file.
mons
That looks perfectly fine and it should work fine in-game.
Can you quickly start a new game and take screenshots of the Bundesliga club names and those in the Portuguese top division? Depends on how they look, I may be able to tell what is wrong. I'm assuming that the files are loaded when you start the new game, right?
Bearded Shrimper
what do you mean by that mate?
i'll start a new game now
Bearded Shrimper
I've started a Test game so advice is much appreciated, cheers.
I can change names in the editor if necessary but I don't want to miss one and spoil the whole thing.
On that, when I start a new game do I need to select any of the custom database options?
I never had to do that before but they have appeared there now

When you start a new game, you should tick these files, otherwise you're deciding not to run them. Ignore the other files (which you won't have) and make sure the five files from this download are ticked. When you do that, you should have the correct club names
If this is in the middle of a save game, then please read the workaround in the first post on how to enable club name changes.
Bearded Shrimper
that's sorted it, sorry for me being blonde and that.
Thanks
mons
Glad that solved it Keep it in mind for next year
Bearded Shrimper
the problem was that last year I'd started the game before applying the solution, this time i got the solution then started a game. The pre-game and in game solutions are what threw me off

I'm afraid it looks like you haven't quite installed it right. Can I have a screenshot of your editor data folder please? The main post contains a screenshot of what it's supposed to look like, including the path - so please check if it's the same

Many thanks for the reply. This is what my editor file looks like.

There was a small tweak with Portuguese clubs in the latest version of this file. To re-enable the correct names for Portuguese clubs in an existing save-game, please read the first post of this thread for instructions and apply them only to Portuguese clubs

edit: and gotta problems with files in editor data folder, cause they arent compatibility with game
mons
Club name changes work through the editor data files from this download, which are perfectly compatible with FM17. How can you tell they aren't compatible? Are you getting an error message?
pjbork
Thanks Mons. Just to confirm - nothing I have done wrong, just a change with 17.2.0 that has caused the names to revert in my save game?
PS. thanks for all your work on this, definitely improves the FM experience markedly
Jorgen
Is there an easy way to see which Dutch media and journalists are edited or added to the media file?
mons
To be precise, it's a change I made in this download rather than 17.2.0, so it's not your fault and doing the fix I mentioned is save-game compatible
Yes, loading the editor and the merged media file, and sorting fields with data edits for Dutch media sources and Dutch journalists
Jorgen
Just did what you said, but I cannot search media by nation, is that correct? And when searching for Dutch journalists, my editor finds none.
mons
This is using the pre-game editor. Just add the filter for number of changes to be at least 1
Jorgen
Just expanded the search results to show 2000 results and choose 1 good edit and after that 1 failed edit to search for newspapers and such.
Using the peoples tab, I search for people type: journalist, nation: Netherlands, but could not find any.
I might be doing something wrong here.
mons
You're right, it's not possible to look for media sources by nation as that field is not available in media source filtering.
By way of a workaround, I searched for Amsterdam and subsequently managed to narrow down the Dutch media sources list to the range in the attached screenshot.
As an aside, there are no Dutch journalists in the file.
