Can you take whatever's inside the sortitoutsi folder and put it/them alongside the config.xml file? And take a screenshot then?
When you start a new game, does it not take into consideration any of the changes at all?

Ive had a look for some of the big changes but can't seem to notice any. Had a look in scottish, english and italian leagues but didn't notice any.

I'm stumped tbh. Thing is I'm on a PC so I'm not sure if what you're doing is absolutely correct. Best to wait till somebody on a Mac can confirm or deny if your setup is right.

This is how my editor data folder looks like. As you can see the there´s no folder alongside the config.xml file only single files. I have several updates in there, so the content in your map may vary.
The transfer updates works on my mac, but the promotions/relegations does not. Pls report back how your save is.
