I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released and when the full game comes out to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMT or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2017 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly.

You will have somehow installed some files correctly. Please make sure that in the installation folder, you only delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders, and not everything in there - otherwise you're deleting the whole database.
If you think this is not the case, can I have screenshots of (a) your editor data folder and (b) ALL 5 of your db folders?

All looks good but, my bad, I meant to ask for the 5 dbC folders, to see whether you have the database files there.
Also, when you say you "cannot even select a team when each of the editor data files are ticked", can you give me a screenshot of what happens in-game? Do you see an error message, is the start game button greyed out or is it something else entirely?
Jamesgun
I can play the game normally without ticking the new editor data files but when I do have them ticked every team just vanishes and I cannot select a team.
I have worked out how to make it work now. I need to go through advanced setup and set up the database I want to use first before I select which team I wish to manage. First time I tried to do it didn't work but just tried again now and it did work this time. Sorry to waste your time mate. I feel rather stupid now

No worries - all's well that ends well.

Please make sure that the lnc files are inserted in all 5 lnc folders and that only the files from this download are included in the respective folders.

Done. That fixed competition names, however international call ups are taking place again and no Germans appear to be being selected, from my team anyway. Will give it another international break after this one to see if it's working.
It worked, thank you very much
mons
The file regulating competition names is the same as the one in which the German national team is toggled on and off, so I'm sure it is now in place. However, if the all and greek folders are still present, then there will be some other files in place overriding this toggling on/off. Please make sure they are not still there. You'd be surprised how many people leave them there without even realizingEdit: Just saw your edit - all's well that ends well
TodayAtTomorrow
however, when you talk about editing the file to have the name changes take effect in a save, do i have to edit the text file in each of the db folders? or just once?
mons
It really depends on which patch version you started the game with. To be safe, you should edit the City, Club and Stadium Names.lnc file in the 1730/lnc folder and do the necessary changes as indicated in the first post, save the file, then copy it in the other 4 folders. Should do the trick

Your fix has saved my game save, as the fake German names ruins it for me, and yours is the first fix that I've found to work mid-save!!
Thank you again
mons
You're welcome. Whenever a new official patch/update is released and especially when you verify the game cache, you will need to reapply this download's files to be sure it works

One quick question, any way of getting the Japan national team records to appear? When I click on the 'History drop down there's nothing there.
Thanks
mons
It's hard coded not to appear for licensing reasons. Nothing anybody can do about it.
Guerrier_
Ahh okay thanks anyway
Do you know how to change the Brazil team names? I've tried already and failed miserably lol

Some people have reported that changing the dbc files also affects names in your save-game, but it's not been my experience so far.
If you want to change them in the middle of a saved game, you could change the name in the club name changes lnc file (open it with Notepad and use the same name change convention). If you're not sure which club is which, just have a look at the stadium name and check on Wikipedia what club is based in it
SrWer
In the game is called "Sporting (POR)", but in fact the name is "Sporting CP" (For being Sporting Clube de Portugal, is "Sporting CP".
If you can tell me something!
