Who ever thought I could be this nervous! It was only a couple more matches that I was going to be in charge of. But promotion playoffs! We were in the Semi Final and faced a two legged tie against Montrose, the side that beat us four one at our place only a couple months ago. We needed to be at our best now, we needed to press on and take the game to them in both legs, lets review how the two legs went.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ghFWQsdNThuLZQSwu1IlJHqCGfvdsYv7BLasjhMM.png

A seven goal thriller! We win the home leg four three in a back and forth game. We went ahead inside the first minute when Dillon converted a cross into his own net, not the start they wanted but perfect for us. We were two up in the twenty eight minute when Glen netted for us. Man of the match Scott Reynolds pulled the away side back in touching distance, making it two one before the break. Second half Paterson was dismissed for Montrose and that saw us score twice in four minutes with Osadolar netting a brace. Reynolds went on to net two for Montrose but we held on to a first leg victory.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/44WFvHHhXqX1T7f84DHVmWMxsOfKDt7py2aFRLj5.png

The second leg saw us run out two one winners, but again it could of been so much more convincing! We had the chance after just four minutes to go ahead when Goodwillie missed a penalty. Twenty first minute saw us finally take the lead as the ball fell to the centre back from a corner. Second half, Montrose came out fighting again leveling ten minutes into the second period. But it was our man Osadolar who once again fired us into the lead and a six four win on aggregate to send us to the Final!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/MVyBZZjR9kaUcK9ZU5IEZqnwceLk8IGx8FEXDojS.png

And it will be a second League Two side going up this season as Cowdenbeath beat Albion Rovers in the other playoff to doom them to relegation from League One and set up a Final with us. But whilst I fancy our chances against Cowdenbeath more than I would of against Albion Rovers however our record is very poor against them over the season. They've beat us two of the four times whilst we've won one and drawn one against them. It'll be a fun two legged Final for us.

Now two games away from success in my first ever season. No matter what happened, I'd see this year as a success anyway, we beat the board objectives in the league finishing third compared to their fifth that they had wanted. We also shone in all the cups and at least met their expectations there. So here we go, two games against Cowdenbeath, the 'blue Brazil' and with our sketchy head to head record, this could go either way.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/zcMA6jCyoGZh9sFvbMuRMcUC8l9Q9i5LkYMRZvI4.png

We had the first advantage! the away leg as well! We traveled to Cowdenbeath and struggled to take our chances in the first half which saw us trail one nil at half time as Buchanan scored after ten minutes! Second half, after an earful, the boys responded, that man David Goodwillie leveled for us just two minutes after the restart and scored his second to put us ahead seven minutes from time. Connolly applied the icing on the cake, giving us a three one advantage after leg one! We were halfway there.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ogdCc03ggujXBbwtXmtwm74VVmtaECnbjR26hTOR.png

PROMOTED! Absolute scenes! My first year in management and already people would start talking! We've secured the Scottish League Two promotion playoff title. The Second leg saw Cowdenbeath try and bring the game to us but our counter attacking football held them off. Just before the break Connelly fired Cowdenbeath ahead and back within one goal of the aggregate score. But once again, we had a response from the boys in the second half, Osadolar netting in the sixty ninth minute proved the be the goal that took 'The Bully Wee' to promotion.

This evening Darren Way has congratulated one of his former youth academy players after he pulled off promotion playoff success in his first ever season of management. Dan, a former Yeovil Town academy player and now manager of Scottish League Two side Clyde, has just won the promotion playoff final over two legs over Cowdenbeath to seal his first trophy in management in his first season.

Dan, aged 26 took the reigns of Clyde FC back in June 2017 after his footballling career was cut short eighteen months earlier when he badly damaged his knee and underwent surgery following a night out just a day before he was set to make his Yeovil Town debut under current manager Darren Way. It was Way who pushed Dan towards football management and he is now delighted to see his first season was a success.

Way has said "It wasn't easy initially convincing Dan to go into management, but now I'm so glad he has. It isn't easy moving to a different place and taking your first steps into management, but hes done brilliantly. The club have supported him and its paid off".

"I'd love to see him come down and manage in England soon, whilst I'm still managing, it'd be great to go head to head."

"Now I hope he carries on and the club and players support him throughout his time with Clyde, this is just the starting block, we'll be hearing his name for years to come."

What a year its been! Just under a year now I've been in football management and I've already lifted my first bit of silverware, I wasn't expecting it to happen so quickly, but it felt amazing, I could get use to this thats for sure. I'm so glad Darren Way pushed me towards management when I thought my footballing career and future was done and dusted. I've still got a part in the game and its been a brilliant start to it, long may it continue.

When Clyde approached me a year ago it felt a little surreal, felt like a dream come true and a big learning curve. And that it has been and whilst I have a long way to go and not taken on anymore coaching qualifications I've still got a long way to go until I reach the top, however I'm happy to be in this position now. With the first season done, just a quick round up of how things have gone over the year and the stats behind my first ever season.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UFeHiVzoz17wuljPs3VNvDoWhLNNfulJkv7NgqRK.png

Obviously I can't take all the pludits for this seasons success, its come down to the work that these boys have put in over the last year and they've been brilliant throughout, from the players who played almost every week to the rotational squad players who stepped in when needed. We only had one keeper in the club and he played all 51 games this season keeping just twelve clean sheets. but he was incredible for us. Loanee Scot Rekkie was one of the most capped outfielders, he was solid at the back and really fit that centre back role well, even scored twice. Connolly was one of our best performing midfielders, pipping in with five goals and fourteen assists in forty nine starts. Whilst up top the partnership of Goodwillie and Osadolar was super, the first scoring thirty two and assisting fourteen in forty eight games whilst the latter scored twenty eight, assisting nineteen in forty four starts! Some partnership.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/SQ8IgDOT8KiVe0yjDFnL5JlN6vZsmRh4for0KjxK.png

And so, onto my stats from the past year, obviously my only job to date which I've been in charge of for three hundred and thirty five days, approaching the year mark. We played fifty one games across all competitions last season, winning twenty nine of them (56%) whilst drawing twelve and losing on just ten occassions. Goals weren't hard to come by either, scoring one hundred and three and conceding seventy three. 3 players brought, one sold, no money swapping hands in transfers though. Bring on many more years in management!

Despite a brief travel down south for a short part of the winter, I was soon back in my office up in Scotland to get to work for the side, for my second year in management. We lost a fair few players in the summer as they left on free deals with contracts expiring not wanting to renew, my former star man David Goodwillie was one of those who sadly departed, mind you he was far too good for this league anyway.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/DyeBC7C4p0Sn0DqUxLTLCtDNBe5iIYSCZB3GsUPI.png

No one left on transfer terms, just contract expires early before the window opened, hence why it shows none on the right. On the left, the signs of a busy incoming revolving door as we had to improve Ten players joined Clyde in total, six on free transfers who also had no contracts previously whilst also taking four players on loan, One of those from our parent club Aberdeen.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/oMILm9YMV6a2ADoMb63abi9OjYJZEV2B8buavwUH.png

And so here are my group of lads that take on our first season in the Scottish League One, hopefully we can meet the boards objectives and survive in the league, they want us to battle against relegation. I'm not here to pick up defeats and damage my reputation too early on. Hopefully Osadolar can continue his scoring from last year, both loan strikers could really do the business whilst I'm hoping Dangana can fill Goodwillies boots.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xWkfbJjpnfHfZrcy9CAYzM8ZCG2nM0Gz6cChiEvs.png

We were home all pre season, only real standout result was that at the beginning of the summer where we beat Cliftonville three one, a nice money making friendly. We certainly didn't embarass ourselves against the likes of Preston either. And you can see our Betfred cup, again another tough group, Cover Rangers should be our guranateed three point match, it'l be tough to pick up anymore than that this year around.

So here we go, the Betfred Cup group stage, we done very well in this competition last year, finishing second in a group of clubs all in at least one league higher than us. Narrowly missing out on qualifying through the best place second finish. This year we go again, despite being a very tough group, I felt we could probably bag a minimum of four points, it'd be a little tough to get anymore than that. Heres how it unfolded.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/kB9yD5av5AipHfQcEBVT6UcOTHoYHDVcvqUa67TS.png

YELP! That was shocking! Like, really bad. Four games, four defeats and taking just one point thanks to a penalty defeat against lower league side Cover Rangers, What made it worse is the fact we only scored one goal and that was taking the lead against Cover Rangers. Kilmarnock and St Mirren dominated us as expected, we done well to keep the scoreline down against them. Should of done better against Dumbarton, a competition to forget and not take into the league season.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/gke5EJKrWwHOgQZUlz1MpxcjRDzC9v1oCFbvy92f.png

So here are the fixtures that await us. The Scottish League One awaits us and we'll kick off the next update with our first nine league games, one against each side again. Only four of the ties at home, we'll need to try and make the most of those matches for sure. We will also play the Challenge Cup Second Round tie against Airdrie, a game we should really be winning. But after that cup experience this month I'm not sure what to expect.

The second season has quickly come around, I felt we done okay in the summer especially in the transfer window, bringing in a bunch of new faces and ones who have definitely strengthened the squad over the last couple of months. Following a torrid time in the Betfred cup we now move into league action and the Challenge Cup to see if we can get a run going. It'd be a tough season we already knew that.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/AgZVksPp8vqULtUePYyDuy3XbGIyGrhHvPyjqqkB.png

Our season is just getting worse and worse and we've not even got going in the league yet. No Scottish Challenge Cup run this year, we crash out in the Second Round, losing two nil against Airdrie.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xb9OLU0qDEx3FCDR4wMOEW9TfcJYKhFEckqefSUj.png

Well, the form is poor, someone spot the green dot, there isn't one! We've really struggled to get going in the league, too many draws. It would appear our defence isn't good enough, conceding too many but we are scoring goals still, only one game where we failed to score. We were unluckly against Forfar, conceding a ninety third minute equaliser to end up drawing four a piece. We need to get a couple wins under our belts soon if we are going to survive this season thats for sure.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QgLlIJ8ITeeINph9CwMoSZX5iuTqKwZx6AHX5Q1j.png

And so, obviously our league position is torrid. Bottom of the league, without a win in our opening nine games and the only team without a win this season. The gap is still small though at this stage and a couple wins in our next batch of games and we could soon begin moving up the league. Early signs suggest its a fourway battle at the bottom between us, Queens Park, Brechin and East Fife so we need to start making the most of those head to heads. Raith are flying at the top.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/D53WnnAcmiadK7Zwi7HFGaUcsYHMJcgbneyeKbxy.png

And so the next update should include the next nine league games and that would be all, it'd take us up to the end of the 2018 calendar year. As I said, we need to be beating those teams around us, Two of which we face at home in this batch of fixtures so must make those count if we are to battle against relegation this year.
