Now I don't think our football has been marvellous all season, we've been quite inconsistent at times, but I think if City weren't on another planet this season then it wouldn't look so bad surely?? So I did some number crunching and worked out how many points the previous 25 league winners had amassed.
Currently United have 77 points with 3 games to play against Brighton (away), Watford (home) and West Ham (away). I feel we'll pick up 6 points from those 3 games tbh which would see us finish with a respectable 83 points, not too bad. Especially when you consider that points tally would have seen us win the league title in 8 of the last 25 seasons.
If we manage to win all 3 of our remaining games and finish on 86 points that would make us champions in 11 of the previous 25 seasons. Almost 50% of the Premier League seasons we'd have won the league, so it begs the question if we win those final 3 games has our season been as bad as some people say??

Personally I'd say our season, if we finish second, would be about a 7.5/8 out of 10.

Absolutely awful for the vast majority of the season. A good six weeks in spring though.

maybe a 1 cause Arsene's finally leaving and Mesut signed a new deal

We're 90% likely to end a season on a five game losing run. - Big issue that it may carry into the new season. - And could easily finish 15th or so. For what it's worth we got 46 points the last time we came up under Hughton/Pardew. And got 41 points the Europa season. And 49 points the season Remy, Sissoko, Debuchy etc. clocked off after Christmas.
I think the squad is an excuse - the vast majority have played in the top flight reasonably successfully or are easily good enough to do so. Pretty much every member of the squad would get offers to stay in the PL.

I was happy enough to scrape 17th given my natural pessimism, which is a mindset that carried on first when the form collapsed before Christmas, and then we drew our way through January and February. From that point, I'll take it. But I do agree that this conclusion to the season isn't good enough. Spurs and Chelsea have shown somewhat indifferent form, so I think we might get something off one of them, but they're not first choice games to snap out of this. I'm also aware a hangover can go on. It looks from the outside as though Stoke, WBA and Southampton all slept through the final part of last season and none of them have really woken up for this one.
Saying that, Burnley had a crap second half last season and are now Europa League bound, while Watford rarely win games in April/May but seem to dust themselves off quickly enough, so... who knows. Maybe predicting the future based on this period is a totally fucking pointless exercise.

I know I sound like a broken record - but I feel like Newcastle are just a PR machine for Benitez. He's the first manager ever to need 'talks' every season. He has a contract - he should honour it or offer his resignation. For example do you expect to hear Chris Hughton imply he will leave if conditions aren't met?
Succeed and it's all down to Benitez. Failure and it's Ashley.

This summer will be massive for us and I really do hope we can get our shit together.
