Top work upseting man city however it will be a completly different tie back in England!

Yeah, and I need to get at least a point there to hope to qualify; if I lose both that game and the one in Barcelona then I'm almost surely out, and gaining a point in Barcelona will be even harder...

The Verona side swept aside as Roma thunders to win
Chievo never stood a chance against Roma this afternoon as the home side storned to a 5-0 win, with Ademilson main character of the script as the Brazilian scored a wonderful hat-trick. The first goal came in the 23rd minute as Piris crossed from the right and Ademilson dived to met the ball with his head and put it into the net; then, at the end of the first half the young striker doubled the score with a header on Osvaldo's cross, and finished his hat-trick again on a cross from Osvaldo, once more with a header.

Second half saw Roma cement their domination in the game with two more goals, one from Caprari, the first after his return to Roma from Pescara, and the other one from Ward-Prowse, who has been a nice surprise to Roma's fans for the regularity of his scoring, especially considering he's a midfielder.

The Sardi manage to keep Roma on a draw
Roma didn't have the best of their games against Cagliari tonight, but despite that they had managed to find the lead thanks to Gabbiadini who had replaced an uninspired Osvaldo at half time and had scored when the clock was on one hour past kick off, heading a cross from Lamela past Konigshofer; unluckily for Roma, though, De Rossi scored an own goal trying to anticipate a Cagliari attacker during a corner kick, and the Roman side could not find a winner in the remaining minutes until the final whistle.

Giallorossi ease past Palermo and get a five point lead in the table
In what was a clash at the top betwen Roma and Palermo the Giallorossi's manager decided to field all his backup players to rest the more famous names for the Champions League clash at the Etihad; his lads however didn't betray his faith in them and went in front with Ward-Prowse providing the assist and Ademilson finishing well in the 10th minute; the Brazilian scored again in the 40th minute as he corrected a short parry from Viviano into the unguarded net; at the start of the second half Palermo pulled one back thanks to Von Bergen who was found free in the box by Miccoli's free kick, however Roma put the game to bed again with Ademilson's third goal of the game in the 71st minute, when the young striker beat Viviano with a powerful drive from just inside the box.

Ctitizens get revenge for their previous defeat
Roma didn't play their best game against City at the Etihad and were punished for it by a Carlos Tevez brace; the Giallorossi didn't start too badly but soon left the control of the midfield and of the game to the home team which in the end found the lead just as the teams were ready for half time. In the second part of the game Roma tried to get more dangerous up front but were pegged back by a penalty which was hardly contested after the game by the manager; proof that the referee got the decision wrong is that the football authorities didn't have a word to say against Roma's manager for his outburst at the end of the game.

This said, City deserved the win despite the penalty incident.

It was a close affair at the San Paolo
Napoli and Roma gave us a good show tonight at the San Paolo as both teams tried to win the match from the start; Roma had perhaps the better chances to score but could not make them count until the end of the first half when Destro was clattered just inside the box and the referee awarded the penalty, which De Rossi coolly scored.

That was the only goal of a game which promised much more on the scoring aspect but was still quit entertaining.

Well, the Champions League can reserve some surprises as you will see from the next reports As for the league, I think the many games and the need to rest players often might end being a hamper on our ambitions...you'll see that too in next reports, but for now behind us the others lose points as well so the gap is still intact.

Roma waste a two goals lead in the secondnhalf and even risk losing
Roma made a good start of the game at the Artemio Franchi in Florence, gaining a two goal advantage in the first 15 minutes thanks to Caprari and Ward-Prowse; however, the Roman side could not hold onto that lead in a disastrous second half in which Ekdal scored twice for Fiorentina after coming off the bench, and then Pizarro had his penalty kick saved by Perin in the 88th minute.

It was a very strange second half from Roma which were so in control in the first part, and so unable to string two passes together in the second.

Tremendous performance by the Giallorossi who come out of the Camp Nou with full spoils
Roma knew they were in for a rough night as they faced Barcelona in Champions League tonight, and that they would have to make their chances count to hope to get something out of the game; that's exactly what they did as they weathered the storm for the first fifteen minutes, then at their first attack Destro was tripped in the box by Song, the referee had no doubts conceding the penalty and Roma's captain De Rossi stepped up, wrong-footing Valdes to give his side the lead.

Barcelona furiously attacked to find an equaliser and they did just before half time as Iniesta crossed from the right and Messi headed the ball home from close range; however, Roma were not going down easily and went in front again in the 55th minute as Gabbiadini, who had subbed Lamela at half time, crossed low from the right and Destro corrected it into the net. Roma's joy didn't last though as Villa gave Barcelona an immediate equaliser.

Working hard, Roma managed to keep the score level until the 75th minute when Osvaldo laid the ball to Florenzi who first-timed it to Destro; the striker saw Osvaldo run into space and fed him a perfect ball which Osvaldo put past Valdes to give Roma the lead for the third time in the game, and this time it was to resist till the final whistle.

With this surprise win, Roma get to 9 points in the group, behind City and Barcelona at 10; now the Romans will face Anderlecht at home while the other two clash with each other so a win for Roma in the next game will secure them a place into the knockout rounds whatever happens in the other game.

Roma gets the win only in the dying minutes of the game
Bologna did their job of stifling Roma quite well tonight at the Stadio Olimpico, even if a solo effort by Erik Lamela gave the home side the lead in the first minute already; from then on however the Rossoblu didn't concede much to the Giallorossi and remained anchored to the game, hoping of a positive event to draw; situation that presented itself in the 61st minute when a free kick from Morleo found Pulzetti alone in the box, easy then for the player to put the ball past Perin and equalise; Roma weren't looking like scoring anytime soon, but for once set pieces came to their rescue as in the 88th minute Castan, till then one of the worst players on the pitch, jumped above everyone else on Lamela's corner and put it into the net to give Roma the win.

The Etnei manage to hold the table leaders to a draw
Away in the always hostile Catania, Roma could not go past a draw, after that the home side even got the lead with Bergessio in the first halfas the Argentinian striker first hit the bar with a header on a corner from Lodi, then pounced on the rebound and slammed it into the net; it was a quite disappointing first part of the game for the Giallorossi which at the break were deservedly down by one goal, but in the second half they did remarkably better, finding an equaliser with Ward-Prowse, by now not a surprise anymore, and went close to finding a winner, without managing it though.

The Giallorossi do their part of the deal against Anderlecht
It was the only thing needed to go through, a win and they would be to the knockout rounds whatever happened in the City-Barcelona clash, and Roma fulfilled expecteations at the Olimpico against Anderlecht, even if in the first 25 minutes the team seemed worried and nervous as they missed easy passes and the like.

However, a wrong pass from Anderlecht keeper launched Roma's counter in the 37th minute with Lamela centering the ball for the oncoming Destro who slotted it home, melting the nervousness of the Roma players and fans together and unleashing another double salvo from captain De Rossi in the 43rd minute, the midfielder finding space for his run and finding the target from just inside the box, and from Florenzi, right at the start of the second half, with Lamela receiving from Pjanic and crossing low into the box where the Roman midfielder was waiting just for that and volleyed it past the keeper.

At this point Roma were top of their group as City and Barcelona were drawing 0-0, but soon later came the Messi goal which gave the Catalans the first spot in the group, and sealed City's fate into Europa League football for the remain of the season.

Giallorossi in lacklustre display at the Olimpico
It is often said that Champions League football can drain energies, both at mental and physical level, and Roma were a proof of that against Sampdoria today as they couldn't find a way to win the home game against the Blucerchiati. A drab first half in which Sampdoria were perhaps the better side was followed by a second part in which Roma found the lead with Osvaldo who tapped in a low cross from Lamela, then Sampdoria equalised with a nice first touch combination at the edge of Roma's box, which allowed Laczko to get close to Stekelenburg and send the ball past him into the net.

Entertaining match at the San Siro
Roma made a flying start to the match as after a confused struggle in Milan's box following a free kick from Pjanic, the ball came to Marquinhos who sent a fierce drive flying toward Abbiati's goal, beating the Italian keeper and giving his side an immediate lead; however, Martins Indi could not cope with Pato's quickness in the 15th minute, and the Brazilian equalised; the match remained balanced throughout, until De Jong picked up a second yellow card in the 62nd minute, from then on Roma piled up the pressure searching for a winner; however a huge mistake by Stekelenburg, who lost control of the ball at the edge of his box, could have condamned the Giallorossi to defeat as Pato scored again with three minutes to go; a time interval which proved sufficient for Roma, considering that they equalised with Pjanic who headed home a cross from Balzaretti, and then won thanks to a penalty for a foul on Ademilson, who had replaced an uninspired Destro, which was converted by Roma's captain De Rossi.

Giallorossi planning for next season already
Roma's manager has snatched some interesting free transfers for next season as he took the chances coming from Lacina Traorè, Alexander Lacazette, Alexander Merkel, Fabrice Olinga all going out of contract in six months to sign them on a free.

Given the crowd in the attacking department for Roma, it is expected that we will see some sales in that part of the squad in the summer when the new signings will join the club.

Giallorossi will face the Merengues
After going through a steel group with Barcelona and Man City, Roma wasn't luckier in the First Knockout Round draw, from which Real Madrid came out as the Giallorossi's opponents.

"I guess if we manage to go to the next round we will have deserved it" was the manager's comment as he bitterly smiled commenting the draw. The win at the Camp Nou in the group stage will give Roma the faith that the tie can be won, even if the secong leg is in the lions' den at the Bernabeu.

We turned the odds around once with the group stage, we will try to do it again against Real; I prefer going out against them but being stil in the CL than being "downgraded" to the EL and go further forward in that.

League form is ok, we have some draws here and there and we are not as commanding as a couple months ago in our wins, but till the points keep coming I won't complain

How do you go about facing each game?

Do you use the same tactic in each game that you posted in the beginning?
Do you use different OI's each game depending on the players or generally the same ones?
Do you use shouts?

You have been incredibly successful so far .... impressive ...and a good read. Thank you

I've made some tweaks to the tactic but it is the same as positions, roles and duties of the players go; I've changed some player instructions (for example the mentality, or for the two wingers I've set them to hug the touchline and cross from the byline instead of cutting into the centre as they shot from distance too much, I've also set "shoot from distance" on rarely for all the players but they still do that more than I would like) and something about the tempo (making it quicker) and the defence line (moving it a tad deeper).

The OI are still a work in progress in the sense that I usually give the same to every opposition depending on the positions, for example whenever the opposition fields a MR and ML I give the same OI to the players playing in those positions, however I'm still experimenting on what OIs work better for the different positions; of course, if the opposition has a lot of quality players I tend to give more OIs as there are more dangerous players to counter (example, Juventus plays a 3-5-2 and I usuallygive close down always, tackle hard, show onto weaker foot for the MC, and tackle hard, show onto weaker foot for the other two central midfielders, while with a weaker opposition I might only give OIs for the central midfielder out of the three I reckon more skilled and thus more dangerous).

As I have said in a previous post I've found that giving less OIs allows my players to be more free when going forward and that makes me more dangerous in attack, although it also leaves the opposition more free to create chances.

Oh, and in the first season I used to change the full back's duties to defend instead of support but seeing how often I drew and were generally not dangerous up front I decided to risk more this season.

Thanks for the compliments

Can't say I'm happy with Lazio getting themselves relegated in the first season but I have to admit, you're doing a great job with the other lot, especially the way your building the team.

Just out of interest, how are your finances doing? I saw something over on the SI forums that said a pension rate or something for Italy was set twice as high as it should have been and in a longer game it played havoc with the finances of Italian sides.

Thanks for the compliments Seeing Lazio relegated was a bit of a shock I'll say, but I've read on an Italian forum that this is a bit of a problem, I'm not the first to see a big team getting relegated in the first season (Inter was relegated in many games of the users on that forum).

As for the finances, for now they aren't too bad, I can't compete with City, PSG and the likes on the transfer market but I got almost 40M euro funds this season and that's not too little of a budget; the financial monthly reports constantly say I lose one or two millions but that the finances should stay secure, so we will see...but yes, I've read of that problem with the bank loans too, I've loaded a fixed database made by that Italian forum I was talking about and it should have put the bank loans to the correct amounts.

Roma and Juventus share the spoils
It was a close match at the Olimpico where Roma and Juve drew 1-1 with both goals in the first half, the home side taking the lead with Mattia Destro well found in the box by Lamela, and Juventus equalising soon later with Quagliarella who exploited Roma's weakness on the set pieces to meet Douglas Costa's free kick and head it past Stekelenburg.

In the second half both teams tried to win it but neither could create enough to make it, in the end it's a draw which won't anger anyone.

Liguri unable to stop Roma
Spezia's resistance against Roma lasted 15 minutes, the time for Destro to be picked up into the box by Osvaldo with a cross from the left and smash home the ball past the home side's keeper; from then on the game was never really in doubt although Roma took a while to double their lead, with the second goal arriving only in the second half when Marquinhos resolved a confused situation in Spezia's box rifling a right foot shot which left no chance to Belec. Soon later, Lamela crossed for Osvaldo on the far post and the striker placed a perfect header to make it 3-0, a score which then remained unchanged till the final whistle.

Cagliari beten at the Olimpico
It wasn't the brightest Roma of the season tonight against Cagliari, but it was enough to see the Sardi off, thanks to a Piris penalty which gave the Giallorossi the lead following a foul on Ward-Prowse by Estigarribia, and which remained the only goal of the game until the last few minutes when the Paraguayan player was again a main character as he crossed low for Ademilson who slammed home the ball from close range.

Piris won a deserved man of the match award for his efforts.

Parma swept aside at the Tardini
Roma had little problems in getting a win over Parma this afternoon, with the Giallorossi getting the lead in the 14th minute thanks to Florenzi who brillianty finished a solo move; then the Roman side doubled their lead with Mattia Destro who was the quicker to get onto Santacroce's short header and slammed it home; at the start of the second half Parma tried to get back into the game thanks to Ninis, but Roma never looked like conceding an equaliser after that, and put the game to bed in the 83rd minute with Ward-Prowse.

Roma ease past the newly promoted team
A man of the match performance by De Sciglio was enough for Roma to see Crotone off, as the Italian full back opened the scoring in the 13th minute, it was his first goal with Roma, and then provided the assist for Gabbiadini's header which set the score to the final 2-0 in the 41st minute.

It was a game that Roma dominated but where they could not convert their chances as well as in other circumstances.
