Unemployed with no prospects

One Sunday afternoon a prospective Football Manager is having his Sunday Lunch and has a premonition that one day he will be the most successful Football Manager of them all, or at least he will give it a go.

Therefore, he scours the jobs section of his local papers, fair to say he finds nothing. However, he finds a Football Manager Agency who will take his CV and send it around to unbeknown clubs, maybe adding a few white lies along the way.

So who will employ this Football Manager with no experience whatsoever, except for playing in goal for a few games for the Bull & Dog 2nd team?

Aberystwyth Town FC employ complete unknown

In a move that has shocked the entire community of 12 people who live in the seaside town of Aberystwyth, their local football (not rugby) have appointed a completely unknown Englishman! to mange them to glory, or so he says.

The new manager will come in with absolutely no clue what he is doing, but will go through the backroom staff like a hot knife through butter and get some Scouts who actually watch Football and not Rugby.

Throughout pre-season the new manager went through his squad with a fine tooth comb to evaluate his squad and has you can see from the summer transfer window, the new manager was a busy man bringing in 15 fresh faces to the squad.

New Aberystwyth Town FC Manager off to an average start

Aberystwyth town have had a reasonable start to the season with results being a bit up and down, winning games where we was the underdog and losing games where we were the favourites.

The new season brought a lot of new faces to the club, including a fresh faced 16-year old with no previous football experience. Jason Hayes, Jason has proven to be a great asset to the club moving forward, but is the new manager putting too much faith in a youngster with no previous club experience? Some may say their careers are parallel to each other. Eitherway Jason has proven himself to be a great prospect for the future, or until TNS come in and buy him.

Aberystwyth exceeding expectations under new manager

Aberystwyth town for the first half of the 2018/19 season have exceed expectation under rookie Manager Adam Atherton. There was a feeling around the club at the start of the season that the main objective was to stave off relegation. However, the Aberystwyth fans are currently experiencing nose bleeds are their team is in the fight for a Europa League qualification spot.

There have been some great victories in the first half of the season for the seasiders but also some low points, as you can see from the schedule its been a very up and down first half and the new Manager will be looking to instill some consistency into his side heading into the finale of the season and hopefully into the conference playoffs.

Town's new players also seem to be settling in well. However, the new players seem to have upset some of the established players at the club with two of them bringing their grievances to the new Manager and seeking a move away from Park Avenue. Therefore, the Manager will be looking to ship players out in the January transfer window, which will also be an opportunity to bring in a few more fresh faces following a consortium taking over the club in October. The new consortium injected £5,000.00 into the clubs coffers, which is basically Paul Pogba's breakfast bill.

Arguably the stars of Aberystwyth's first half of the season have been three new signings, Jason Hayes, Sam Evans and Nicky Wynne and an established key player Declan Walker who have all been pivotal in the seasiders exceeding expectation.

Next up for the seasiders is the tough task of back to back games with Newtown who have been one of the surprise packages of the season and are current sitting in 2nd in the league table, if we can sort out the inconsistency and start to keep a few more clean sheets then I think this will be a very positive first year for the new Manager.

Underdogs Aberystwyth qualify for the top 6 split

Aberystwyth, who came into the season as one of the favourites for relegation, have defied the odds and qualified for the top 6 six split in the JD Welsh Premier League. Adam Atherton will be looking to build on a fantastic first stage of the league season and push towards a continental qualification spot.

The January transfer window also brought about some additions to the squad, as well as some players leaving the squad.

Two horse race for the JD Welsh Premier League 18/19

Aberystwyth have dumfounded all the critics of the early season to head into the final few games of the season with a chance of winning their first ever top flight Welsh Championship, where their previous best finish had been 3rd in 1993.

There has been much praise for this squad of young talent mixed in with a few experienced players this season, along with the new Manager Adam Atherton. The new Manager's new philosophies and way of working has worked miracles with this bunch of players, who head into a crucial set of fixtures where they play TNS twice in the stretch of a few weeks. This side has the chance to make history if the games against TNS go our way.

The only stumbling block which could effect the squad going into the games with TNS is that Rhydian Williams strained his hamstring in the last match vs Newton and with the Manager selling the back up right back to Newtown during the January transfer window, this left the Adam Atherton little option but to seek an interim replacement for the steady left back. The manager sent out his Scouts on an emergency mission to find a right back but with no luck. However, there was a right sided Defender that was on Trial with the club in pre-season and he was still available!

Therefore, Manager Adam Atherton was straight on the phone to Gabriel Kubwalo, who agreed to join the club on an Amateur contract until the end of season. Hopefully the unfortunate injury to Rhydian, who was having a great first season with the seasiders, doesn't effect the back four too much and the team can fight for the title against the mighty TNS.

Sober end to a great first season for the Seasider's new manager
Aberystwyth went into the final few games of the season and the championship conference, knowing that if they kept up their recent form going they could well be crowned JD Welsh Premier League champions for the first time in history. However, after a very disappointing finish to the season, new manager Adam Atherton ending up doing a Pochettino and finishing 3rd in a two horse race!

End of Season Results
https://i.postimg.cc/1tC11bNx/end-of-season-schedule.jpg

Aberystwyth went into the showdown with TNS on 16th March knowing that a win would put the league in their own hands. Despite the Seasider's giving TNS much more of a game than their previous meeting, the only professional team in the Welsh league came out on top 2-0. This left Aberystwyth requiring a miracle, and I think that effected the players as a draw with Llanelli Town and ultimately a draw with Llandudno handed TNS their 8th straight league title.

It was then the return fixture against TNS, with Aberstwyth providing the Saints a guard of honour as the newly crowned champions. However, in a turn up for the books Aberystwyth came out on top 2-1, maybe some of the TNS squad were already on their holidays. Once again this left Aberystwyth with their final league position in their own hands. Sitting in 2nd place in the league, one point ahead of Newtown with an away game against early pacesetters Barry left.

Aberystwyth got off to a flying start, leading Barry 3-0 at HT. 2nd place all but looked secure. However, a devasting comeback by Barry in the 2nd half, topped off with an injury time equaliser condemned Aberstwyth to 3rd place in the league with Newtown's 1-0 victory over TNS handing them 2nd place at £5,000.00 more prize money and a further one round bye in the Europa League preliminaries. The Seasiders were disappointed with their run in after such a great run. However, the new manager can take heart that at the start of the season they were one of the favourites to go down and with no qualifications and no idea he has managed to guide them to a 3rd place finish and Europa League preliminaries qualification.

https://i.postimg.cc/CKP5KP30/barry-end-of-season.jpg

The new manager has his sights set on next season with a few transfers already lined up. However, following the teams finish in 3rd place, a European place playoff beckons.

**UPDATE** Due to TNS winning the Welsh FA Cup this means another spot for Europa League Qualification for the league and both finalist in the Conference European playoff qualify for the preliminary phase of the Europa League.

So once Aberystwyth beat Bala in the semi-final they qualified for the Europa League Preliminaries. Next update will be at the start of next season and will update career stats with awards at the end of the season.
