This file will need to be re-applied if/when official patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.

Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, do NOT apply in FM Touch or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2020 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed, such as Champions League, Europa League and Premier League displaying instead of EURO Cup, EURO Vase and Premier Division respectively. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players and that the Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach managers have fake names. These are all fully save-game compatible.

There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for Brazilian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian (including Juventus) and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Brazilian clubs' text colours are also changed through an editor data file. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

Follow the below instructions to install this version of this file

STEP 1.

You can find these folders by clicking, in the Finder, the Go menu in the menu bar, then choose Go to Folder and type the folder path name (obviously inserting your username), then click Go.

You can get to the Library folder by simply selecting Go from the top bar and holding "alt" key - The Library folder suddenly appears on the drop down

For Mac Lion users, the Library folder will be hidden. Use this link to find out how to show it.

For those struggling to find the Steam and Steam Apps folder etc using Mac with the new OS High Sierra, this link below shows how you can unhide your Library folder which will then let you find the other folders.

Slightly more detail in this post

STEP 2:
COPY the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the downloaded pack

STEP 3:
PASTE them into each of your respective folders mentioned in step 1.

These are what the respective folder structures should look like in the 2040 folder:

dbc: https://i.imgur.com/je40Ajx.png
dbc/permanent: https://i.imgur.com/1FH8ABp.png
edt/permanent: https://i.imgur.com/aat5BqX.png
lnc: https://i.imgur.com/a87Z77C.png

STEP 4:
COPY the 8 files located in the EDITOR DATA FILES folder in the downloaded pack

STEP 5
PASTE to
\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2020\editor data

\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2020\\GAMEPASS\editor data

Users/YOUR Mac USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive
By default this folder is hidden, so to access you need to do as follows:

Open Finder
Click ‘Go’ from the menubar
Press and hold down the ‘Option’ (Alt) key
This will bring up the ‘Library’, click to enter then go to ‘Application Support’ -> ‘Sports Interactive’ -> ‘Football Manager 2020’

This should be what your editor data folder looks like now. There may initially be a config.xml file in this folder and it can be safely overwritten; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.

https://i.imgur.com/u8XTmoc.png

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, Japanese national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not immediately. Do keep in mind that this file does not add Japan-based players, who are not in the official database and will need a third-party add-on to be created and added.

Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.

Hi,
Thank you for everything! I have a problem this year:

I started a new game using the editor data files and I believe I replaced the Inc files (I have them for now). I do have Juventus, Japanese teams, etc.
However, I still have three letters name for Brazilian clubs (VIT, FLA...) and I changed the names of the clubs in the Inc files, but it does not appear when i start my game again.

Any idea?

That part of the fix has got nothing to do with lnc files. Make sure that your 2010, 2030 and 2040 dbc/permanent folders look exactly like the ones in the screenshot. It's likely that one of the official SI updates added some files which are deleted when using this fix and so this particular issue has resurfaced.

Can I have screenshots of the folders? Was FM running if/when you changed the folders and did you have the fix in place when you started the save game?

Looks like the Juve kits aren't installed correctly and you may be seeing just the default kits. Look forward to the screenshot.

I had no idea a new version had been released. Kudos to SI for ploughing through with fixes even in these troubled times.

I'm still to download it, but I suspect very little will have changed. I'll release a new version later on with all the changes submitted since the last version 3 weeks ago - but if you can't wait so long, make sure that the dbc/permanent, edt/permanent and lnc folders look like the one in the screenshots in the opening post.

Hello all

First of all thanks for all your hard work for these fixes!
I just have one question; can I do some of the work myself by just editing the text file?

I wanted to start a game in 3. Bundesliga and saw that some club still have "wrong" names; Viktoria Köln is Köln, FC Magdeburg is Magdeburg, 1. FC Kaiserslautern is FC Kaiserslautern...
What do I have to do in order to change these names succesfully?

Thanks in advance!

I thought they were all fixed tbh. I'll have to check them.

You can add them after having started a new game by editing the lnc by using the workaround in the first post, or you can change the German club name changes editor data file by using the pre-game editor.

Whichever way you decide, it would be nice if you could share your changes for possible inclusion in any next version of this file

Yes, I read the workaround but I do not know how to do it.
In the text file I do not see Magdeburg, for example.
Do I add the club ID to the text file?

I'm at work and can't check right now, but if a name isn't there, it's usually because either the name in the official database is considered correct or I'm not aware that there's an issue with it.

If you want to add new changes, use the same code as in other clubs; read this guide on how lnc files work

It's kinda weird because some teams in 3. Bundesliga have correct, full names and others don't.
All team in 1 & 2 Bundesliga are correct.

If you let me know which ones need to be fixed, I'll do them myself for you and release them tonight.

I'd need team UID - long name - short name

I'm sorry but where can I find that information?

The teams are;
Jena -> Carl Zeiss Jena
Köln -> Viktoria Köln
Magdeburg -> 1. FC Magdeburg
Mannheim -> SV Waldhof Mannheim
Meppen -> SV Meppen
Uerdingen -> KFC Uerdingen
Würzburg -> Würzburger Kickers
Zwickau -> FSV Zwickau

Also; these incomplete names are the ones you see when select a club or look at the division table.
When you open the team screen the correct full name of the club is displayed above.

Does anyone else have an issue with their league fixtures only starting in January, despite choosing to start your game in July?

I had the same issue back when FM2020 was released and just ended up turning the game off. I've redownloaded all these files again today, and the same happens.

I have no other editor data installed aside from the ones included in this download.

The topmost name is the official full name, and the one below it is the informal shorter name. In an informal setting, people don't see Liverpool FC or FC Barcelona, but Liverpool and Barcelona, and that is what this naming convention is intended to replicate. In-game, I believe the full name is displayed on the team profile page etc. while the short name is displayed in the league table, player history etc.

If you still think any of the above are incorrect or should be fixed when keeping the above paragraph in mind, let me know and I'll fix them, no worries

That's absolutely bizarre and definitely isn't supposed to happen. Never had anybody suffering with that issue and I've been doing this fix for over a decade now.

So, which database are you running when starting the new game? The most recent one? If yes, can I see screenshots of your db\2040\2040_fm folder within your Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 2020\data\database folder (or equivalent)

I suspect you may installed wrongly something other than the editor data files.

I'm just in the process of re-installing the game and trying without the edt files etc. I've been using your files for many of those 10 years myself, and never had any issue. Just trying to eliminate things at the moment.

I suspect you've deleted the folder I mentioned above (or part of it), which contains the actual database itself, which could be why you're having these issues. Are you using the 20.4 database, i.e. the one with the most recent transfers?

That's correct, yes. Game updated this morning, and the files downloaded this morning.

I've only ever replaced the folders as per instructions. Never gone in and deleted any folders, certainly.

I've installed as fresh, and currently only have the editor data included in the download, my fixtures are as normal.
I'm gonna individually add each folder, and see how we come out.

Cheers for your help so far.

It could be an installation issue, which means the files are not being changed correctly. Or it could be the case that what I think is correct and what you think is correct differ, and so it's not an issue with the files as they are at present, but one which needs the files to be amended.

Can I see screenshots in-game of a couple you think are wrong and should be corrected? Also a screenshot of your editor data folder and of the dbc/permanent and lnc folder of the database version you're using?
