Honestly, I don't see how you, at times, are able to find such high res pictures! (what do you use for searching?)
But I thought, since the old pictures was of lower quality and I found a source where the person was looking straight at the camera without any shadows, was decent.
I would have liked to have found a higher res for sure, but I didn't.
Not saying you are wrong in your comment, just stating my reasoning.

Like I said, I only used Google Images "chris llewelyn colchester" and those and more came up. This thread also gives some hints on how to look more the best possible sources
If the source you posted was more recent, say 4 years old, then it wouldn't be that big a deal. But if it's 10 years old, then more recent sources would need to be really, really poor to not make improvements, which is not the case. It's all a question of balancing the various criteria of what makes a good source really.
I totally forgot to reply to this! Perhaps it does not matter at this point, but thanks for explaining.
In this instance my picture search wasn't specific enough (I use google or duckduckgo), which is a glaring oversight; adding club name after player name would yield a better result 90% of the time.
It a balancing act, I got you
