With the database update I've decided to try my hand at something new and start the 'Metropolitan Man' challenge, I will update you on my conquest monthly. I have replaced some of the recommended cities and will also try to keep the squads as European as possible.
The Aim: Win the UEFA Champions League or Europa League with clubs based in; London, Madrid, Turin, Ruhr, Istanbul, Paris and Amsterdam. Once I have lead a team to glory I will move on at the next opportunity that a club becomes available.
I have loaded the top leagues from my selected nations along with players from top divisions in several European countries.

Cheers mate , fancied something new!

Despite being a dominating force in the Eredivisie recently Ajax have failed to leave their mark in the Champions League since 1995. I hope to change that using a young squad balanced with a handful of experienced players. As part of my contract I'm expected to play attacking football and develop players using the clubs youth system, and am happy to comply.
Transfer Budget: £6 million
Wage Budget: £300k (currently spending £244k)

I've inherited a very good squad with decent depth in most positions. The options at attacking midfield are plentiful, so I will most likely use a 4-2-3-1 with three central attacking midfielders, however I feel we are a player short at right back so I will look for a cheap backup.
The young playmaker has the world at his feet, he will be a crucial part of my success at Ajax an I'll look to hold on to him. At only 20 he looks like he can only improve and become one of the best players in Europe. As he only has two years remaining on his contract, tying him down is a top priority.
Another young Dane finds himself at the focus of my attention. Just joined from Aalborg, he looks a quality player for just 17 and will hopefully develop into a player as good as Erikson.

With not much needed to improve the squad I may have completed my transfers for this window already. Looking at the squad I noticed Miralem Sulejmani was on over £30k, significantly more than the rest of the squad but didn't look anything special, so my first task was to move him on as we have plenty of attacking midfielders. Werder Bremen took him off my hands for £2 million, significantly less than Ajax payed for him four years ago.
The right back joins on loan from AC Milan until the end of the season, costing us only his weekly wage, to provide cover at either side of defence.
Signed as a replacement for Sulejmani at half his wage and cost the same. The Czech midfielder is less attacking and strengthens the squad in the middle of the park.

Both of them made sense, Sujemani was on far to much!
George14brfc
yeah he was cant believe how they would have someone being paid so much more than the rest of the squad !

We had a decent pre-season. Obviously it was disappointing to lose the Amsterdam Tournament, but we lost to a very good Spartak Moscow in the Final. I was very pleased with the Toulouse and Fulham results as we came from behind in both to set us up for the Johan Cruijff Shield agains PSV.
An epic tie in which PSV came out on top thanks to an injury time winner. It would have been nice to have claimed my first piece of silverware so early on, but it wasn't meant to be.I am however delighted that Christian Erikson has signed a new deal keeping him at the club until 2017.

We got off to a sh*t start! We threw away the lead in the first two league matches and were absolutely demolished by VVV Velno. We managed to turn things round at home to FC Utrecht and hopefully can repeat it after the international break. We have yet to keep a competitive clean sheet, conceding 11 in all competitions, an are that will have to be looked at.

A fair draw for us being the 3rd seed. I predict our biggest test to be Porto, having them at home in the last fixture means it could possibly be the decider.
There was only one more transfer and it was Derk Boerrigter to our Champions League opponents. I wanted to add another midfielder/striker to the squad but was out-priced on Alex Texiera and refused to pay the wages that Jelle Vossen and Celso Broges requested.

Augusts strong finish spilled over into this month and two goals in the final 10 minutes of the PSV match gave us the win, followed by and excellent start to our Champions League campaign. Siem de Jong was taken of injured in the win over Olympiakos and faces up to four months out with a damaged achilles.
We are yet to keep a clean sheet against Dutch opposition, leading to us going out of the KNVB Cup, despite the back four playing well regularly. This leads me to play the blame game and pin it on the goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer who has conceded 15 goals in just 7 games. If he doesn't start to produce some clean sheets in the next month I'll be on the look for a replacement.

A good month domestically, but only one clean sheet. I will definitely look for a better keeper now, and give Kenneth Vermeer the next three months to change my mind. I'm pleased we've climbed up to second and face FC Groningen at the end of November to hopefully close the gap.
Our Champions League charge took a turn for the worse, losing two away matches and Christian Erikson with a torn calf muscle. With another two home games qualification is certainly possible.

November has been the defining month. Apart from the loss to RKC everything went to plan, beating sc Heerenveen, FC Groningen, AZ Alkmaar and drawing with FC Twente to make the top of the table very tight indeed. We also secured progression in the Champions League. If we beat porto we go top and should have a better chance of making the Quarter-Final, my goal for the season.

A decent month despite the blip agains NEC. We finished second in the Champions League Group and drew Lille a tie I firmly believe we can win. We've managed to keep a few clean sheets which has been pleasing. The gap at the top has now been cut to a single point.
The squad gets stretched after a few injuries, so I need to sign a few players. The return of Siem de Jong and Christian Erikson in January will also be like new signings and give us the boost me need.

One good result followed by a disastrous one that could have put us to of the table. A combination of injuries, suspensions and a red card left me with half a squad for the PSV game and the scoreline reflected.
Most of the month was spent looking for potential signings but no success as of yet, however attacking midfielder Tobias Sana left after just 4 appearances for the club.
SR67
I learned from my mistake of the first half of the season playing with such a small squad and added four first team players, three on loan. A few reserves left to free up about £10k in wages. I didn't managed to sign another keeper as I was out-priced by many clubs.
The youngster was in Celtic's reserve squad and has potential to be an excellent impact player for us and if he impresses could be kept on permanently.
The German winger offers us more options on either wing making him an ideal temporary signing.
None other than Nicolas Anelka to add some much needed firepower up front along with bags of experience. I wont be expecting fireworks but if he chips in with the odd goal I will be happy.
Another midfielder to boost the heart of my formation, especially with Thulani Serero away to the African Cup of Nations. He was my final signing of the transfer window.

Its extremely tight, you have one bad game and you can drop 2/3 positions.
SR67
An almost perfect month. We remain joint top and have gave ourselves a good chance of reaching the Champions League Quarter Final. We came back from 1-0 down against Lille to win it in the dying minutes.

An awful month. It couldn't finish quick enough, only picking up two points meant we've slipped to 4th in the Eredivise. We also went out of the Champions League 4-2 on aggregate. With only four league games left we must win them all and hope that PSV drop a few points in order to win.
