I've seen a lot of 3D kits here on the forum and I thought why don't we have something that can convert those into 2D kits? Well, you can find the answer below. In 2020 I started with the 3D to 2D standard kit conversion template for Photoshop, whereby you copy and paste elements from the kit into smart objects that are warped into the right place. For FM22, I've made more improvements to the standard kit and also added support for 3D to SS kit style conversion!
We also use a script that uses your config.xml and transforms that into an output directory with the kits of your choice! @DokteurHaisse did an amazing job creating a Photoshop JSX script, that automatically generates the 2D minikits from an input file (config.xml) of your 3D kits directory. Together, we made it a bit more user friendly (also for macOS users).
There are two tutorials included in the zip, both for the script as for adding the kit manually to the template.
Running into any issues with the download or do you want to perfect this project? Let me know!
Drop you creations below, I'm curious to see what you all made!

Been playing around today with a new version. Shirt completely from scratch, added a collar as well, which looks awesome on kits with text or something within the collar. Tried to implement more consistency and make both sides mirrored in some way, while still maintaining 90-95% accuracy with SI. Some minor tweaks in the upcoming weeks and then we go live with the release of FM22!
What do you think? (EPL 3D kits by @bolid74 with minor logo tweaks)
wfm18
I've updated the file with a beta version for FM22!
Changes to standard template
The standard kit was doubled in size (1024x1024 instead of 512x512) to achieve higher quality. Added a collar featuring a small part of the back side of the kit. The shirt model (not the arms) was completely remade from scratch, resulting in a more consistent collar.
[New] Added template and script for 3D to SS conversion
Secondly, I've added support for 3D to SS conversion. This is very early stages, if you are interested in taking this part of the project over or helping me out, let me know.
Please share your feedback, I expect to make another update when the game comes out.

Hello. It looks really great. It would be nice to build 3D kits and convert them directly to different 2D kits format. I hope you will include FC12 kits and PR kits in your project. And maybe it would be possible to convert PES kits too FM kits aswell ?
wfm18
FC'12 kits are definitely on the schedule within a couple of months. Maybe sooner, since I feel that it could help boost the importance of 3D kits. By only making the 3D kit, there are three outputs generated, for everyone to pick their favorite style. I'll check if I can create a first draft before the release of FM22. Standard kits have priority to me.
About PES, eFootball or whatever it is called now... There was a initiative (between me, @mva0322 and @DokteurHaisse) a couple of months ago to see how PES kits could be converted to FM kits, but it's harder. For example collars are very different and difficult to get right. Next to that, lines need to align and the way the model works is completely different as well. It might be something to pick up as well at any point.

@wfm18 and @Sco73 last I spoke with the team over at https://fifakitcreator.com they mentioned they were going to reach out to you @wfm18 to discuss collars. They did mentioned that they though a single collar was enough for the initial experiment. That's as far as I went with the investigation, because I've changed jobs and became a father and both of those absorb ALL OF my time. Even watching my beloved West Ham live has become a struggle.
Unfortunately FM is now just a fond memory 😂😭😩

@wfm18 Amazing job you've done here! May I ask, does this collar look as intended to you? It may be my outdated photo shop messing something up.
wfm18
Hmm, that doesn't seem right. The collar is quite hard since i have to do a lot of warping to get it into the right place.
Can you send me the 3D file in FM so I can check? It seems like the warping effect does not take place, same issue as with the Standard Kits. Especially since logo's are likely to be a bit off/warped, like this Leicester kit I converted from this season:
priority76
Definitely a problem with the warping abilities of cs6 then. Oh well, I'll stick with standard kits for now then.
wfm18
Version 22.2 is available. By far the biggest improvements to the standard model I've made so far. Especially on kits like these where the sleeves and shirt are connected. Later this week I expect to work on the SS and FC'12 models.
MrTini23
Hi, great work on this! I'm currently looking to try and get the kits working so they marry up nicely with the newgen pictures in the player profile. What would be the best way to go about editing the collar for use with these.
wfm18
Version 22.3 is available! A lot of improvements around the shoulders and arms. I included two preview MP4 files to showcase the differences made over the past week. I had to step away from some of the consistency with the SI template, since the warping effect in Photoshop is not able to really 3D model the shirt. Tested with multiple kits. This will be the last update for a while.
If you find any problems, let me know!
wfm18
How do these stack up together? Does the kit overlay on top of the face? Then you'd need to remove a part of the collar in the PNG file to get it working.
MrTini23
They look like this
Using this default template
The plan is to get the standard PSD for the script as close to that as possible. Think the likelihood is that a bit of the collar will need to removed from the PNG
wfm18
Exactly, you'll need to mask the whole kit onto the one you showed here. I'm not going to support this in the project, but since I've masked the warped smart objects, it shouldn't be that difficult for you to change or you do it after running the script.

great job @wfm18 really great especially with the update for the SS kits! Could you fix the prints on the sleeves that don't appear in the center?

wfm18
Bear in mind that the FM20 and FM21 templates changed a bit; so it could be dislocated a bit. The SS template is - up until now - just a very raw sketchy idea or concept, the same way as the Standard Kit project started.
I hope you are able to create a couple of these examples and send them to me in a PM. Then I'll be able to fix those errors faster. I'd like to keep the topic a bit clean from SS kits, as the Standard Kits are up until now the main focus and priority.
Football Manager PRO
ok! as you prefer, im sorry because as many people like me use SS kits Bolid74's. I appreciate your work, BUT I HAVE CHECKED THE ORIGINAL SPORTS INTERACTIVE KIT3D , THEY ARE THE SAME FOR FM 20/21
wfm18
I meant the templates by bolid74 changed a bit (expecially around the collar) from 20 to 21, since we got more insights in the UV mapping and so on. So we're creating kits now way more accurately than back then, meaning that newer kits will look better and the placement is 100% correct with newer kits that use the latest templates. Anyway, the placement on the kit above seems to be fine, so that is a mistake in the converter SS template for sure.
My outcome is a bit different to yours, I think you are using an older version of Photoshop in which you're not able to see the warping effects I added to the kits. In the spoiler below you see that the arms are already a lot more aligned, although still not perfect of course. Especially the logo is being warped like crazy.

Oh! My PS CS6 v13.0.1.
So… amazing warped logo effect more realistic: i like it 😉

Hi @wfm18 thank you for your hard work this tool has been amazing!
Just a question I hope you can help me out: I had a few 3d kits that I twisted on my own and used FM XML tool (I'm on Mac) to create the config.xml so I can run the script to create standard kits (following the instructions) but every time I run it on photoshop this error message pops up
I don't have problems at all if I run the config file from a 3d-kits pack that I downloaded online. Thanks in advance!
wfm18
@DokteurHaisse can you maybe investigate? I think the XML file is unreadable/corrupted or not in the right format, but not sure.
mva0322
Checking back in and I got to say, AMAZING work everyone! @wfm18 the fact you included a West Ham kit in your video is making me nostalgic. So good!
DokteurHaisse
Can you post your xml file so I can check? It does sound like its format is incorrect
Burak.kose53
@wfm18 dude, it would be great if we could actually convert ss kits or FC12 kits to Standard kits. We can convert 3d kits into standard kits. But fc12 and SS kit are made a lot. Can we convert these fc12 kits or SS kits into standard kits? Because there are very few friends who make 3d kits.
wfm18
Not possible, unless we get unlocked PSDs and transform them into 3D. 2D is a representation of a 3D model. That is why I think 3D should be the core of kit creation where you can extract the 2D from, not the other way around.
To me it doesn’t make sense that there goes so much research and time into FC’12 and that there are no 3D kits made when all logos and kit designs are already there. Like ingame you’ll still see wrong kits during the match, but we’re also not able to use them for other 2D types as SS or Standard Kits. When 3D becomes more important, this project will only become better. So suggest to your favorite 2D creators to also make the 3D version of the same kit.
bvb4life
I just use the xml generated from the standard kits folder and it works like a charm. True there was definitely something wrong with my xml format. Everything is fine now! Thank you
Burak.kose53
You got it wrong my friend. I didn't say to convert a 2d kit to a 3d kit. I said it would be great if normal 2d kits, namely fc12 or SS kits, could be converted to standard kits.
I'm talking about converting a 2d kit to a 2d kit again.
It would be great if we could convert an SS format kit to a Standard format kit.

This is simply amazing work @wfm18 & @DokteurHaisse, my jaw is on the floor!
I would never have thought something like this was even possible, but not only is it possible, the results are outstanding. I really hope that this does take off in a big way and it can only benefit the community as a whole if all the very talented kit makers out there were to concentrate on just one style instead of dividing their efforts over 3 different styles.
My Photoshop skills are pretty basic, but luckily for me, using your scripts doesn't seem to require any Photoshop knowledge at all. I have downloaded and had a play with the scripts and I am really, really impressed with the results, although they haven't turned out as well as your examples.
These are converted from bolid74's 3D kits for FM 21
For me, the sleeves on both seem a bit off. On the SS kit the left sleeve needs rotating slightly forwards, the right sleeve slightly backwards, whilst on the Standard kit both sleeves need rotating a backwards. On both, the badge and the manufacturers logo are a little high and on the standard kit, the badge has not warped in the way that it does on SI's kits and in in your examples.
I get pretty much the the same when using SI's 3D kits lifted from FM22, although the placement of the badge and manufacturer's log is better:
Could this be something to do with my version Photoshop (CS6 version 13.0 x64) or am I using the scripts incorrectly? All I have done is open Photoshop, drag and drop the .jsx file into the open window, then follow the prompts to pick the appropriate config and set where I want to save the output.
Cheers
wfm18
Thanks for your reply @Fidney. The errors that you're getting are indeed because you're using an outdated version of Photoshop. The warping effect is not taking place on the kit in CS6 or below, which normally puts everything into the right place. If you want however, you can send me the 3D files with config.xml in PM and I can convert them for you. If you want to do it yourself, I recommend to upgrade to Photoshop CC, that will 100% work correctly.
There is still a lot of work to do on the SS kit, so that is something I'll focus on after FM22's release 😉
Fidney
@wfm18, thanks for the offer but I don't have anything that I was really attempting to do convert, I was just trying it out, and I'm just a dabbler when it comes with working with images so can't really justify the expense of upgrading to CC.
This is a really impressive project and has the potential to revolutionise kit-making in the FM community. I look forward to seeing how this progresses and really hope that people do buy into it.
