I've seen a lot of 3D kits here on the forum and I thought why don't we have something that can convert those into 2D kits? Well, you can find the answer below. I created 2 PSD files, one is the actual template in 512x512 format (2x original size). The other one is used to drag your 3D kit (PNG) and extract the shirt (front, left and right arm). You can import these into the 2d template. I used the Inter kit (and some others) as examples to get the positioning right, since this one has a nice lining pattern.
Sounds complicated? @DokteurHaisse did an amazing job creating a Photoshop JSX script, that automatically generates the 2D minikits from an input file (config.xml) of your 3D kits directory. Together, we made it a bit more user friendly (also for macOS users). There are two tutorials included in the zip, both for the script as for adding the kit manually to the template. Oh, and many thanks to @Chris for creating the 3D Barcelona kit, which I used as an example!
Running into any issues with the download or do you want to perfect this project? Let me know!
Drop you creations below, I'm curious to see what you all made!

Basic question here - i started creating kits this morning for the first time ever!
I've created 2x 3D that im really happy with but i've only been using tools like Pixlr and GIMP. What's the best way to convert 3d to 2d on those? Reluctant to get Photoshop just yet as i'm a total rookie.
DokteurHaisse
“Historically” there was no way of converting 3d kits to 2d (as far as I know), so this template using Photoshop is the only way available right now
We're still looking for a better and more scaleable way to convert kits with @wesfm18 but nothing conclusive right now so I'm afraid you're stuck with photoshop for now

Sorry I don't think I meant convert.
I mean more create. All tutorials are for FC or SS kits and the templates mention the script.
How do I create 2d is mu real question
DokteurHaisse
Well the easier way to create a 2d kit would be to convert from a 3d kit with the PS script :p You can also do it manually with this template (I think there are instructions bundled in the zip file)
I don't think there is any templates for gimp or other programs

The best way indeed is to follow tutorials on creating 3D kits and using the 3D kits viewer to make them pixel perfect and afterwards convert them to 2D, which in any case I can do too for you :)

Just finished modifying my team's 3d kit psd's and I like very much the result now when using your template to convert it to standard style. Pretty much as you said, I had to downsize the logos. However I made a little modification for the right arm. When pasting the right arm from the 3d kit to the smart object, I added a translation of -2px in the Y axis. As you can see the right sleeve is now more accurate…for some reason it wasn't taking the whole arm in the template.
I think I've said it many times but your tool is brilliant mate! Really happy with the result:

Thanks mate! I'm working on a new version that also improves the lightning on the kits, just like the official ones. I'll take these things into account 🙂

New update soon! The release will contain new lighting and placement fixes. Currently working on some final details before release. It will still contain some issues with the symmetry, however it seems like SI has this symmetry issue in their template/conversions as well. I've mapped Sparta Rotterdam away (has a lot of lines) over the new template and they are 95% correctly mapped.
For now, just a few previews. The lighting update is especially noticeable on darker kits, and now makes the output much more consistent with licensed kits by SI:

Thanks again for this WestFM. They look incredible.
Would you be able to include some standard kit templates in your file? I'm looking to create kits right down to the Irish amateur leagues, many of which don't have websites so I'm not going to match them accurately, but if I have a few blank Adidas / Umbro / Nike kit templates to work with I can quickly add kits for these teams by slapping logos on and changing the colours to match. Could just be 3D source files with logos removed?
If this isn't possible, don't worry!

If you can create the 3D kits with the templates from bolid, I can convert them all for you. Let me know. There is no standard template, I only convert 3d kits to 2d standard kits. Positive about that is also that you have a 3d file right away without creating two separate kit types 🙂
If you need help, let me know in PM

New version is live! Enjoy creating 2D Standard Kits! 🙂

Hi, is this file the actual kits or some software?
Many thanks if you help me
wfm18
Template and script for Adobe Photoshop, with the script you can generate 2D kits based on 3D input files. CC recommended, for example CS2 does not work properly.
