I've created a set of Custom Start Dates for FM23. These allow you to start the game on a specific date and not on the default start dates for each league.
The pack contains ten editor data (.fmf) files - you only need to use one of these for a given save game. They are clearly labelled and will allow you to start a new save on the noted date. This file works by overwriting the Seychelles with a custom nation which has a start date set as per the list below.
Installation Instructions
- Simply extract the files into the “editor data” folder; found within the "My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 20XX" on Windows.
- When setting up a new game, go to the Database drop down and select the start date file you need - you can only select one.
- Go to Advanced Setup and Add/Remove Leagues - you should see a new nation appear in Africa “sortitoutsi.net Custom Start Date” - make sure this nation is ticked.
- Set this new nation to View Only and add the playable leagues you wish to use, as normal.
- Select the Game Start Date in the bottom right, and navigate to the new “sortitoutsi.net Custom Start Date" nation and select the desired date.
The start dates are best used in combination with a Real Results file (such as this one) but can be used standalone as the game will simulate results for all playable leagues up to the chosen start date.
The dates currently included are the final Monday of each month:

If you would like to request a specific date not included in the list above, please comment below (remember that the game start date must be a Monday) and I will look to add them in a future version.

You can verify the file in a few seconds using the pre-game editor. Open the 23.0 database, load whichever editor data file you want, test the rules and save again. Then it will be compatible with 23.0.

I forgot to comment, in this case, can you tell me if I add the champions of the season through the pre-game editor, would they normally appear in the 'last winners' and would not two champions appear in the same season?

Don’t add winners in the editor as the game will still simulate the season to the point of the start date (or use real results if you’ve downloaded them).

Mod needs fixing sadly as it does not work anymore. Game refuses to pick it up on most recent update. And trying to verify it gives you this error. This is on the most recent database.

Not sure what else you're trying to do here; but everything works fine with these files - I've gone through and verifed the latest updates and they have zero issues. Have you got something else loaded in the editor when trying to do this?

is it possible to use these start dates to start with a promoted/ relegated team in real life - without the season playing out in the game. for example, when I tried to start in June 2023 with Leeds, they had already just won the championship

@StanWilliams I was able to get it to work. I got to it from this video. Did you also install a League Results mod (linked in the video)? Following the instructions I was able to start with Leeds on June 5, 2023 and Leeds was sitting at 19th in the Prem table, about to be relegated, which is I think what you want.

I heard it can mess a save up because of CA, some young players lose a whole year of development and older players stay stronger for longer.

File for stardate 12.06.23 is not working for me it shows latest startdate 05.06.23 any idea?
I think 5.06 is the last possible starting date. Last year was 31.05 for example

You can just load - and put View Only - Indonesia and start on 12/06/23. And even Australia, they have dates in July and even August.
