If you are having trouble installing our Football Manager Transfer Update or any other Football Manager Database then please read everything below.
The guide is split into two sections, the basic installation instructions, which should be very simple for 99% of users and some common mistakes and issues. Please make sure to read the guide in full and check you're not making any of the common mistakes before commenting asking for help.
Extra: What to do if you're missing January transfers like Ronaldo, Enzo Fernandez etc
If you're missing transfers from January that means your copy of FM isn't up to date. Update it through Steam or whatever other platform you're using. When starting a new save make sure that it says 23.4 in the top right.
If you are using a cracked or pirated version of FM our update will not work, there is no way to make it work, do not ask for help with a cracking or pirated version you will be banned.
How to download and extract the Football Manager Data Update
- First download the Data Update. You will then be presented with a “zip” file to save somewhere on your computer
- Extract the zip file
- Mac: Usually you can just double click on it.
- Windows: Right click on the file and click “Extract All”
- You should then be presented with a folder that contains files named “.fmf”. In some cases you might be presented with just a single “.fmf” file not in any folders.
- Move the “.fmf” files to your “editor data” folder. See below for where this folder is located on different systems
- Make sure to put the “.fmf” files themselves directly in the “editor data” folder. You cannot have any sub folders within the “editor data” folder.
Windows: Where to put Football Manager Data Updates on Windows
The default path on Windows is:
Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2023/editor data
Obviously change the year to whatever version of the game you're playing.
Mac: Where to put Football Manager Data Updates on Mac
The default path on Mac is:
/Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2023/editor data
Obviously change the year to whatever version of the game you're playing.
This can be difficult to find on Mac using Finder, use the following steps to easily find this folder:
a) Open Finder
b) Click “Go” from the menubar and select “Go to Folder” (alternatively press Shift+CMD+G)
c) Copy in the following: ~/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/
d) Open the folder for you game e.g: “Football Manager 2023”
e) Open the “editor data” folder (or create it if it doesn't exist)
f) Move the “.fmf” files into the ”editor data" folder
By default in Finder the path is not shown. Click “View” > “Show Path Bar” in Finder and the full path will now be shown at the bottom of every Finder window.
How to find and change your “editor data” folder in Football Manager
Below you will find the default paths, but not everyone's installation is the same. The easiest way to be sure is to check in Football Manager itself.
- Open Football Manager and click “Preferences”
- Search “Location” at the top and you should see a path, stupidly FM has bad UI and you can't read the whole path.
- Click “Change Folder” and click the dropdown at the top and it should display the whole path.
- If you do wish to change the location you can do so here, but if you're struggling to install a file and asking for help this may confuse the situation.
- There is a reset button to the right of where it says “Change Folder” click this if you're unsure if you've changed it.
Common Mistakes
Not extracting the zip
The “.zip” file should not be in your “editor data” folder. You must extract the zip file. If you are seeing a .zip file in your editor data folder instead of .fmf files then you're doing it wrong.
Do not use sub folders
Your “editor data” folder should never have sub folders.
Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2023/editor data/new leagues/France.fmf BAD
Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2023/editor data/France.fmf GOOD
Sometimes when you download a file it will be organised in sub folders like “Football Manager 2023/editor data” already. Make sure to copy just the “.fmf” and not all the sub folders.
Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2023/editor data/Football Manager 2023/editor data//Data Update.fmf BAD
Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2023/editor data/Data Update.fmf GOOD
Having “public” folders
For some reason some people have duplicate folders under a parent folder called “public”. I'm not sure why this is, but sometimes it can cause problems. Check if you have the files under a folder folder called “Public” or “Public Documents” and move them to the correct path instead.
Here's some examples.
Windows
Users/Public/Public Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2023/editor data BAD
Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2023/editor data GOOD
Mac
/Users/yourname/Public/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2023/editor data BAD
/Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2023/editor data GOOD

Does anybody have a breakdown of what the 'changes' in the update file includes?

Hi.
I'm having an issue where many Japanese league players haven’t been transferred or don’t have their latest contracts in the game. This doesn’t match the data on this site, some of which I’ve submitted. I’m playing on a Mac with classicfm data installed and also using the license fix and stadium improvements files from this site. Is this happening only to me or just on Mac? How can I fix it? Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you.
MrTPo
is only happening with the japanese players?
p o l a r b e a r
Yeah, I didn't understand this. I checked in FM Editor, and the transfers are happening. But in the game, they’re not. I’ve been stressing over this for a month.
😭 😭 😭

So, do you have any other custom editor data files that may also make changes on transfers?
They may cause conflicts. This is like… you put the food on the table, ready for cooking, but I put it back into the fridge.

No, I reinstalled the game and only added the ClassicFM Data and Real Name Fix files.

Hey,
this is a fairly new issue for me, as I have used the updated database before. But I was trying to start a new save with Metz and wanted the most recent data update. So I deleted all files from the editor data folder, downloaded the new one and ticked all boxes for changes, dynamic data etc (only one of the dynamic possibilities obviously) and started the game. Halfway through pre-season I realised that some transfers that were prearranged were not done plus Kilian Mbappe was still playing for PSG.
So I tried unticking the boxes, restarting the game, re-downloading the file, but no matter what I do, I still don't get the updated squads.
I do get the updated leagues, so Metz is playing in Ligue 2, but with the old squad?
I have attached the content of my editor data file. Some of them were ticked in the database selection before starting the game. I am not using the real world mode, but the classic career mode.
Can someone explain to me, where I went wrong and how I can fix it?

I have followed the instructions on downloading the files, making sure its all as FMF extracted files but am clueless as to how to add the file to the game setup when actually on FM24

Hi! I'm having a strange issue I never had before.
I always used the regular data update but now upgraded to Classic FM's. I'm also using FMRTE's custom start date set in Dec-24 basically to play from the start of 2025.
The issue is I noticed contracts that should be expiring in Dec-25 are set to expire in Dec-24. I checked and “Classic FM - +1 Age and Contract Years.fmf” is properly located in my editor data folder so not quite sure what's going on.
I've used FMRTE's custom start date files before and never encountered this issue. Any clues on what might be going on?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: further testing - I get the same issue using the regular data update instead of Classic FM's. I've also tried and a January 2025 start date “fixes” contracts, i.e. those expiring Dec-24 now expire Dec-25 but all players that are supposed to be in/out on loan have returned to their respective clubs, so this is wrong as well.
Is there a way to mass-edit the “Classic FM - +1 Age and Contract Years.fmf” file and add 1 more year to everything?
PoorJack
“I checked and “Classic FM - +1 Age and Contract Years.fmf” is properly located in my editor data folder so not quite sure what's going on. ”
The better step to check is: if it's enabled in the Game Setup, instead of being in the folder or not.
The difference is: For the former, you “take control” of what's enabled, while you seem to “guess” which may be activated in the latter.
hypervelocity
That's right PoorJack, thanks - I confirm the “Classic FM - +1 Age and Contract Years.fmf” is enabled in Game Setup
I don't think I'm using other editor data files that might be conflicting. My current set up has MasterIgor's UEFA, Conmebol, etc. edits, Daveincid's Increased Realism, Sortitoutsi's Licenses Fixes, Nik33's Agents pack, TMC's Euro, Finalissima and World Cup fixes, Rob's History Updates and Fuller's ETCH, ITCH and ATCH.
A few examples of the issue: Miguel Borja (ID 76033093) contract is set to expire in Dec-24 when in reality should expire in Dec-25. Giuliano Galoppo (ID 14219440) has been loaned from Sao Paulo to River Plate in Jan-25, loan expiring Dec-25 - whereas in my game his loan expires Dec-24
EDIT: Tested only with Classic FM's data update, no other editor data changes and the issue persists. This points to an issue with “Classic FM - +1 Age and Contract Years.fmf” - am I the only one experiencing this?
hypervelocity
hey polarbear, check what they have answered me in this thread, I think you are having the same issue as me and apparently its ‘by design’ https://sortitoutsi.net/content/67235/introducing-project-classic-fm-the-biggest-update-for-fm24-and-a-long-goal-to-keep-the-old-generation-of-fm-alive?page=7#comment_820813

I was having the same issue, I ended up deleting the game and restarting it, and it loaded after that…you will just have to save any files that you want to keep elsewhere as you'll lose them when you delete the game

"Can I use the 'FM24 Data Update - New Players' and 'FM24 Wonderkids (TheNotoriousPr0)' from sortitoutsi.net?"
Zoul
@l3en I don't recommend that. There would be so many duplicate players.

I have downloaded and installed the latest data update and the real name fix.
The result seems to be a dramatic slowdown of my laptop. The “Loading game database“ screen took close to the hour mark to work through. Now I am sat waiting for the “Setting up game database“ stage to complete. The waiting times seem well in excess of those I would expect for the vanilla version.
The installation instructions suggested that all the Editor files should be ticked but I am wondering if that is too much for a moderate spec laptop? Normally I run less than 10 playable leagues on a medium database setting.
Any help would be appreciate. Thanks

Hi, I’ve loaded the database correctly and the transfers went through, but in the Turkish league, all teams have the same transfer budget — 11 million euros — even the lower league teams. How can I fix this?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I noticed that in the Changes file there are the changes of the New Players file (Ronaldo Jr., Camarda...). I doubt it's normal. Also because, opening the New Players file, there are no changes inside it.

Im not sure how to get this european data base and the new transfer update working despite them being formatted like you said.

Morning all,
FIrstly, a huge thank you to the people out there who spend time creating up-to-date databases for us. It makes the game feel fresh!
However, I am having an issue with a recent download. I have tried different ones but for some reason, they are no longer working when I create a new save. The files go into the editor folder. When starting a new game and use the latest database, the files are all selected… HOWEVER when I go onto the game, nothing has been updated. It is essentially only loading the official database and none of the downloaded files (despite all being selected).
It has always worked before so I'm not sure if I have potentially clicked something by mistake?
sww115
I have paid for this and all seems OK at setup. I then go to load the game, and it gets stuck for hours on Loading game database screen, is this just that my Mac is too slow to load in this new database? is it worth doing overnight?
sww115
This has now loaded, however the updates have clearly not applied, all were checked at creation of game

The latest 24/25 dowload does not work? When I click at ‘download’ nothing happens.
Can anyone help me?

Same problem here…I've set it up properly as I have done for years.
All ticked but when you start the game - no league changes apply e.g. sunderland still in the prem

I have installed the new update in the same way I have always done. However, on this occasion there are a number of issues;
I've attached screenshots of my "Choose Game Mode" screen and my “Editor Data” folder and would appreciate someone who knows what they're looking for taking a look!
Thanks in advance!
