The images in this pack are clearly of poor quality. Will the pack be updated in this way or will the images be improved?

Some will be added as they're still improvements with a bit of tweaking, but others will not be added.

@bundesliga2021, we want the player's face to fill the canvas for the 250px cutout, which would mean cropping the image along these red lines:

At the same time, we want all cuts to include a little bit of collar. Since in some sources like this one, the person in the image may have a longer neck than usual, this would be quite difficult to achieve naturally.

Here's a video of the process on how to nudge the collar upwards:

It's in the guidelines, and we've pointed this out to you already. Please pay more attention.

Hello @mons, thank you very much for your feedback!

I was a bit surprised that this submission was rejected because of the gap underneath the chin, as I oriented myself towards active (and therefore previously accepted) images. There are several active images of well-known players with a similar — or even larger — gap under the chin, and some of these were accepted not too long ago. For that reason, I believe the rule was not violated in a severe way here.

Please refer to some actively used images in the graphic attached below.

For my image in question, I can easily solve the issue by cropping a bit more upwards, as the collar still offers some space. However, I have many source images here where it is not possible.

I would therefore like to kindly share my general opinion on the current (very strict) threshold for the space below the chin:

This threshold often leaves no option but to artificially move up the collar — which is much more time-consuming than simply cropping the image.

Of course, players shouldn’t appear like giraffes, but I believe a gap like this one here should still be acceptable. When strictly enforcing the current rule, artificial collar adjustments would be needed for the majority of (normal-necked) players. In this example here, I can confidently say I have seen many players with longer necks. I wouldn’t consider him having a “longer neck than usual”, but rather a normal-sized neck.

Relaxing the threshold slightly could potentially save your team a considerable amount of editing effort going forward 🙂

Another point that seems worth considering: by avoiding artificial collar adjustments, the player’s original appearance is preserved more accurately.

I’d appreciate it very much if you could discuss this internally with the team? Of course, if the decision remains as is, I fully respect your perspective and will make sure to follow the guidelines even more closely in the future.

Thank you again for your time and your support!

Thank you @Bastiaans for taking over this particular image 😀

@Bastiaans, @mons I‘d still like to clarify one point: my concern is not about the difficulty of moving up the collar, but rather the additional time needed compared to simply cropping the image. I have a custom software here allowing me to perfectly crop in only a few seconds — whereas adjusting the collar can take several minutes per image.

This might not seem significant for just a handful of images. But with hundreds of source images, the additional time scales up drastically.

Just tweak the cuts, and nudge the collars upwards, like the guidelines. It's been done this way for over 16 years now, and the 520k+ image in the megapack are in this format. It's only when people decide not to follow the guidelines that some squeeze in differently.

This is not a matter of difficulty, but more of a skill issue  😂

This is the art of cutting people's faces
