Nelly, of all people, made a great point on First Take. He basically asked "Why would you want to play with Kobe?", summarising that going to the Lakers your statistics, across the board, are going to go down and you're probably not going to enjoy yourself. Melo fought hard to get to New York and they're in a much more appealing position than the Lakers. And as for Lebron? Well, let's just say that no one has ever left a championship winning team and the signs all point to e threepeat.

NBA considers nicknames on Heat, Nets jerseys

MIAMI (AP) -- So long, James, Allen, Pierce and Garnett.

King James, Jesus Shuttlesworth, The Truth and KG may be headed to the backs of NBA jerseys.

Some members of the Miami Heat have been told the NBA is considering having them and the Brooklyn Nets wear "nickname jerseys" in at least one of their four matchups this season. The NBA has not announced the plan, but teams apparently have been aware of the likelihood of it happening for at least several weeks.

For now, only the Heat and the Nets would be taking part. It's unclear how many times those teams would wear the nickname jerseys, or if they would ever wear them against other opponents.

"It shows growth in our league and it shows we do adapt to what's going on around us," said Allen, the Heat guard who plans to wear Shuttlesworth on his jersey, a nod to his character from the "He Got Game" film. "And we're still kids, playing a kids' game. Even though we're now men playing a kids' game, we still remember where we come from. Everybody had a nickname and it's a way to let the fans in a little bit more."

Players were asked to submit what names they would want on the jerseys.

Four-time NBA MVP LeBron James is expected to wear "King James." Heat guard Dwyane Wade would have any number of nicknames to choose from, with "Three" - both his jersey number and championship-ring total - being his current favorite. He could also go with his more commonly known name, "D-Wade."

Brooklyn forward Paul Pierce has been called "The Truth" for many years, and fellow new Nets forward Kevin Garnett has long been known by his initials, or "The Big Ticket."

The Heat and Nets are among the preseason favorites in the Eastern Conference, which Miami has won in each of the past three seasons.
Miami forward Shane Battier - who wasn't exactly thrilled about the nickname idea - said he wanted to wear "Batman" on his jersey, though was told that Warner Brothers holds the rights to that name, and other players have also had to deal with copyright-related issues with their suggested monikers. Battier said he'll go with "Shaneo" instead.

"Fans will like it and so will a lot of the players," Allen said. "Guys will get a good kick out of it."

Some of the reaction around the league wasn't supportive of the idea.

"The nickname makes it more about the individual," Kendall Marshall of the Phoenix Suns wrote on Twitter. "It's still a team sport. Represent your team, your family, and go out there and play."

Hope this happens. Would definatly buy one if Bosh has Boshasaurus or possibly the Jesus H Shuttlesworth

They've been getting savaged by LaMarcus Aldridge because their starting power forward Terrence Jones is undersized and not a great defender. Plus LA is mental at midrange high-arcing shots. And James Harden has been appalling, shooting >30% in the first two games. But they managed to sneak game three on a lucky Troy Daniels three in OT. Game four is tonight and it's huge, following the Rockets has me tearing out my hair but when they hit the right notes they're beautiful to watch.

Never mind, I found one.

Dwight Howard's free throws are fucking atrocious.

He's been tremendous from the stripe this series, he's like 5/6 tonight alone. Harden playing like dog shit as usual, luckily he's not forcing the issue, but he's just getting worked on defence over and over.

Finals this year have been quality thus far. Really hoping Memphis pull off an upset and knockout OKC. While would love to see Dallas eliminate the Spurs too. Can't see the Rockets coming back either, they've been horrendous so far.

I'm actually curious to see how all this racial stuff unfolds with the Clippers and just how much it will disrupt them. Miami look like they'll coast through in 4 and get themselves an extra rest, which may prove useful with the Raptors and Nets series even at 2-2.

Wade, Bosh & Haslem have now all opted out of their Miami contracts. Now up to $55 million in cap room. A lot of Heat fans on twitter seem to think its just to give LeBron a bigger deal

Won't be for LeBron. You'll probably find they'll all re-work their contacts so that they can all remain together but without the cap pressure they would have put the Heat under on their current deals. I don't really expect any of them to leave at this stage, not until we start seeing what sort of offers get put forward.

On a side note, I think Melo will possibly end up at Chicago though.

Just been a 3 team trade involving Celtics, Cavs and Nets. Cleveland really want LeBron back

Celtics receive - Thornton (Nets), Zeller (Cavs) and a first round pick from Cavs

Nets receive - Jack & Karasev from Cavs

Cavs receive - Future 2nd round pick from one of the other two teams.
