That's because Arsenal don't spend money.

We need a defensive midfielder more than anything. Arteta has been forced to hold that role all season, which really isn't his best position and limits his creative capabilities. We need someone in that midfielder who will guard the defense, run all day and stay disciplined enough to hold that position. Alex Song did a decent job there but his forward runs would often leave us exposed. As well as that, we need a top quality striker who can get us 20+ goals a season, a decent goalkeeper who can give Szczesny some decent competition and another centre-half. I have more qualms with our defensive tactics than our defenders themselves, and feel like Koscielny, Mertesacker and Vermaelen all have the potential to be quality centre-halves if provided with proper protection from the midfield and coached in an effective manner. Nonetheless, with Djourou out on loan and looking likely to leave in the summer we're going to need a fourth centre-back.

I'd love to see us go in for Julio Cesar if QPR go down this season, and as I'm resigned to seeing Victor Wanyama leave Celtic I'd obviously prefer him to move to Arsenal. I've got a feeling this might finally be the summer Wenger spends some serious money, given that he's entering into the final year of his contract and that we've been so poor this year.

Diaby shouldn't be anywhere near the team, Ramsey was great when he came on. Been great since the new year imo.

Walcott has been shit since he signed his contract, no effort on the pitch and goes missing for massive parts of the game. Imo, he is not good enough for the right wing as he doesn't know how to beat his man, would like to see him play up front for the rest of the season.

Anyway, great win, defence were brilliant again. Would keep the same back 5 again for the next game (maybe stick Gibbs in there as I think he's better than Monreal, depends if he's fit enough).

Yeah, Ramsey has been much better in recent weeks. He won't do anything spectacular but he runs his socks off and makes himself readily available. Did well when he came on today.

The difference is that he is actually playing central, not stuck out on the right wing, was my second favourite player after Van Persie so i'll always stick up for him mind. As for Jenkinson (from Prem thread iirc), i said at the start of the season he'll be a future England international, the quality he has is clear to see and has been head and shoulders above Sagna this season. Just wish that maybe he was played a bit more early on when Sagna was awful, may have made a difference in our performances.

I'd imagine Sagna will be off in the summer, and I won't be too upset about it given Jenkinson's recent performances. It's quite nice having a selection of good full-backs - remember when we had to field Djourou on the right for a few games a couple of seasons back? Gibbs and Monreal look good on the left too.

We have a fair few full backs really, Vermaelen, Jenkinson, Sagna, Gibbs, Monreal and Coquelin, Ramsey looked ok at right back too. Certainly not a position we should be short in, like the days when Flamini used to have to play at left back, though he was brilliant tbf.

And going back a bit to where the convo was on players coming in, seems to be some 'big' rumours about Isco being a major target over the past week or so. Plus there will also be a good few players leaving in the summer, some on big wages too so money this pre season can certainly not be an excuse.

Yep big fan of Ramsey, always have been, hate the stick he gets from some fans and especially the ones that used to boo him but yeah since he's been playing central he's been great.

Think I mentioned it a couple of weeks ago but a lot of fans just give him stick for no reason now when he is in the starting line up or comes on as sub like they don't care how good some of his performances have been. There have been some games where he has played a lot better than both Wilshere and Cazorla but of course some fans won't say a bad word about either of them.

I'd love Isco, obviously, but there are plenty more areas of the team that need improving before we looking for another creative midfielder. Didn't Isco sign a new contract recently, anyway?

Yeah, it increased his release clause to €35m. I'd be pretty surprised if he signs for you lot, especially with City and Chelsea being linked to him for ages.

Yeah, there's no way we'd spend that kind of money on a player we don't really need.

Nice little stat that. We weren't particularly exciting going forward but the whole team was disciplined and nullified Swansea's offence.

Two clean sheets on the spin, something we're not used to seeing. We can score against anyone but that matters little if you cannot defend, really hope that maybe the defensive side of things can keep this consistency, shame its 7 months too late.

Also -

Tottenham's remaining games are - Swansea (A), Everton (H), Chelsea (A), Man City (H), Wigan (A), Southampton (H), Stoke (A) & Sunderland (H). Plus they also have the Europa League.

We Have - Reading (H), West Brom (A), Norwich (H), Everton (H), Fulham (A), Man Utd (H), QPR (A), Wigan (H) & Newcastle (A).

Clearly on paper we have the easier run in and i feel we have a really good chance of catching them now.

Its an old story, but only posting it for the 'bolded' part.

The Arsenal and England winger Theo Walcott has revealed that he used to be a room-mate of Tottenham’s Gareth Bale when they were at Southampton, and says that Bale should have come to the Emirates, because he is an Arsenal fan!

Although Bale is now thoroughly accepted as the newest star at White Hart Lane, the Spurs fans won’t be pleased to know that he would have preferred to join the Gunners with Walcott.

Walcott said: “We were room mates. We shared digs in Southampton and we actually signed the room somewhere where we were together. We wanted to make our mark! It’s probably gone now.

“I’ve played with him since under-11s at Southampton. With him being an Arsenal fan, it’s just a shame he didn’t come to us!

“We still get on really well. I watched both Inter games in the Champions League. I phoned him straight away, wanted to be the first to leave him a message. I couldn’t repeat what I said!

“I think everyone knows who Gareth Bale is now. We’ve got the qualifier against Wales as well. I haven’t been winding him up about that yet but I will after the Tottenham game!”

Both Walcott and Bale have become known for their blistering pace, so it will be interesting if they come up against each other when Spurs face Arsenal in a couple of weeks time.

“The Spurs game will be a big test for us. It’s the early kick-off, straight after the international break and I’ll be on the right and he’s on the left so it’ll be a big test for us both.” Walcott said.

“It would be a good race between me and Gareth. He would say I’m quicker than him and I would say that he’s quicker than me.

“The thing is with Gareth is that it’s so hard to stop him. When he gets motoring it’s so hard to stop him. With me, over the first ten or 20 metres I’m there.

“Gareth was a little stick when he first came to Southampton. But he’s built up, done fantastically well and I’m so pleased for him. It’s been very difficult for us both to come through and get to where we are now.

“Gareth has a different style. He looks quicker with the ball. When he sees that space, he attacks it. It’s very difficult to stop him. Bolton did very well to stop him last weekend and hopefully we can do that.”

Our run in looks easier but these things never work out the way you expect them to. The next five games leading up to the United match are huge - if we can get 12/13 points from them, I'll feel pretty confident, but nothing's guaranteed. If you look at their final three fixtures and our final three then I think we need to get ahead of them by then.

JOVETIC ‘TERMS AGREED

Italian football agent Guido Di Domenico has revealed that Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic has agreed terms on a move to Arsenal, and is set to sign in the summer, according to the Metro.

The Gunners have been constantly linked with the 23 year old, who played in Montenegro’s 1-1 draw with England on Tuesday evening.

Di Domenico claims that Jovetic has snubbed a move to Serie A rivals Juventus, seemingly favouring the Emirates for next season.

Manchester City and AC Milan are also said to be interested in the player, though neither club have yet made an approach.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mail have reported that the club are prepared to part with forward Gervinho, who is a target for Turkish club Galatasary.

The club would welcome a bid in the region of £12 million, which could be used to make a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina; their preferred choice as a new number one.

Meanwhile, Johan Djourou is willing to take a pay cut in order to secure a move away from the Emirates, according to his agent.

The Swiss international is currently settled in Hannover, where he has been on loan since January having barely appeared for the Gunners this season.

Now we're stuck paying him wages for 9 months, should have cut him loose a long time ago. Not only is he always injured, he's shit when he is fully fit as well.
