They don't really have that good a squad. Its a bit of a myth, imo, light up front and in midfield given the formation they play by my reckoning. Certainly not convincingly better than Chelsea's.
Tommo.
What will hold us back is our defence. Swansea could have put away a couple after they scored. Then look at Everton and most other days we would have lost that

Light up front? Agüero, Jovetic, Dzeko. One gets injured? Play one up top, more options in midfield: Silva, Nasri, Yaya, Fernandinho, Fernando, Milner, Lampard.
I think Pellegrini isn't as inept as Wenger tactically that he'll actually change formation dependent on those fit around him. Very astute manager.

Its 3 strikers for two positions and ones injury record is abysmal and the other (Jovetic) is fairly untested in the league.
Lampard will go in January (and also isn't very good anymore on todays showing), and with Yaya, and both Ferns for the two midfield positions with Milner covering they could probably do with another body there.
The big question mark is will Fabregas do his traditional disappearing act from January onwards at Barcelona and if he does if they'll cope.

We won't walk it. Our usually rock solid defence has been terrible thus far and needs vastly to improve. Keeping both Cesc and Costa fit also will be key, particularly because we're a touch light in terms of creative depth in central midfield as a foil for Cesc.

You're assuming Pellegrini will stick with the 4-2-2-2 all the time, there's no guarantee of that at all. We are definitely light in central midfield though, I suspect we'll make a rare January purchase for a new centre-mid.

True, but I'm not sure 'we'll just play a different formation if we get injuries' is hugely indicative of having good squad depth. It's the opposite, probably. No doubt thats what you would do, but its the dearth of squad options that would force it.
bluemoon.
I don't think it's a case of that though. Pellegrini has regularly played 4-2-3-1 in the past and our youth teams all play 4-3-3. I think we'll be changing formation on a more permanent basis. That's not to say we necessarily have great squad depth, as I said we are weak in central midfield and arguably at left-back too but the weaknesses aren't that great. They're easily comparable to Chelsea's lack of depth at centre-back for example.
Ninja
Oh no, I agree with that. I don't think you have a bad squad I was just disagreeing with the comment it was significantly better than Chelsea's, for example, and a case of your good squad vs Chelsea's good first XI.
Crane
Well that was horrific

Clearly all this Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea talk is irrelevant. we are going to win the league.

3-0 win tomorrow for us.

Ah, fair enough then. Our squad definitely isn't significantly better than Chelsea's. It's pretty equal really.
