Warnock resigns as boss at Elland Road.

http://i49.tinypic.com/296m2w3.jpg

http://i46.tinypic.com/1fddnm.png

In the last ten minutes, it has been confirmed that Neil Warnock has resigned as boss of Leeds United.

Warnock, 63, only replaced Simon Grayson as manager at Elland Road, in February, and has spent less than five months in charge of the West Yorkshire club, before resigning as manager this morning.

It is unclear why Sheffield-born Warnock has resigned from the club, especially with pre-season training having begun, and The Whites having brought in some good signings so far this summer under Warnock, with the likes of Paddy Kenny, Rodolph Austin, David Norris and Jason Pearce joining, along with the big signing of El-Hadji Diouf, who has signed a deal until January the 2nd.

Leeds fans will not be pleased to hear this news, especially as fans were hoping for promotion this season, and them believing they had the right man in charge, with Warnock having twice got promotion to the Premier League, first with Sheffield United and then with Queens Park Rangers, just over a year ago.

BBC Football does understand that The Whites have decided who they want as their next manager, but we do not know who that is yet, but there have been reports that Alan Curbishley, Gordon Strachan, Sean Dyche and Mick McCarthy are all names in the frame, for the job at Elland Road.

Managing Director Shaun Harvey on the events at Elland Road today. "Of course we are disappointed to lose Neil (Warnock) as our manager today, but life and football goes on, we now have to make the right decision to appoint the right manager, and we will be contacting the man who we want in the next few days, and we hope he will accept our offer to become manager of this club."

Walker named as new boss at Leeds United.

Last updated: July 17, 2012 11:30pm.

http://i45.tinypic.com/vfe3aa.jpg

Leeds United have named Phil Walker as their new manager, just a week after Neil Warnock resigned as manager.

Walker, 39, has been promoted from being a first team coach at Elland Road, to become manager at the club, signing a one-year deal with The Whites, worth a reported £9,000-a-week.

This is the first job in football management for Walker, but he hopes to help guide Leeds to a top-half finish in the league this season, which could help guarantee him a new deal at Elland Road, and help build on getting Leeds back into the Premier League.

Walker has replaced Neil Warnock as manager of the West Yorkshire club, after he resigned a week ago, and one of his first jobs will be speaking to the players, with United hoping to hold onto the likes of Paddy Kenny, Luciano Becchio, David Norris and El-Hadji Diouf, who are just some players who will be key to success for the club this season, but three of those have only just joined United.

It has not been confirmed, but it is expected all the players will be given the chance to impress Walker, with him looking to use the pre-season games against Rangers and Liverpool at Elland Road, and the trips to Crawley Town and Guiseley to see who will be in his plans, with the players looking to impress enough to face Ipswich Town on the opening day at Elland Road, while it is expected the backroom staff will stay as they are, for the time being.

While Leeds United have confirmed that Gwyn Williams will be staying with the club, the Director of Football was the subject of a bid from Norwich City, but he has decided to stay at Elland Road.

Phil Walker on being given the chance to manage Leeds. "I am absolutely delighted to be sitting here today as the manager of this club, it is a great honour for the chairman (Ken Bates) to trust me with this position, especially with it being my first managerial job in football, and I hope I can repay him with a top-half finish or maybe even a play-off place, when the season ends in May."

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates on the appointment. "We believe we have appointed the right man today, when Neil (Warnock) resigned from his job last week, Phil (Walker) was the only person I wanted to appoint as our new boss, he is a young and enthusiastic manager, and really impressed me during the interview for the job with his ideas for the future of the club."

We have this afternoon sold right-back Paul Connolly, with the defender leaving to join Burnley.

The 28-year-old has departed, after being told he was free to leave by new manager Phil Walker, and with Burnley being the only side to make a bid, the Liverpool-born defender has made the move to Turf Moor, to be closer to his home city.

The fee we have received for this transfer will eventually reach £155,000, £45,000 has been paid up front by The Clarets, while they will pay £110,000 over 18 months.

Trip to Oakwell now to be shown on television.

We can this afternoon confirm that our trip to Barnsley, in December, will now be shown live on television.

The trip to Oakwell will remain on Saturday December 15, but will now kick-off at 5:30pm, instead of 3:00pm, and will be screened live on Sky Sports.

The fans will be hoping we get revenge on The Tykes, after we were defeated there last season 4-1, with Ricardo Vaz Te hitting a hat-trick, to make sure we ended 2011 with a defeat.

http://i46.tinypic.com/1fddnm.png

Leeds United completed their pre-season campaign this afternoon, with a draw at home to Premier League side Liverpool.

The pre-season campaign for The White began at home to Rangers, and the match was a four goal thriller, but ended all square at 2-2. It was the visitors who scored the opening goal, Francisco Sandaza curled home a free-kick, Sam Byram then equalised before Paul Green put the hosts into the lead, but with three minutes left Robbie Crawford equalised for Rangers.

The next pre-season fixture finished better for Leeds United, with a 1-0 win away to Crawley Town. The only goal of the game came on seven minutes, with Ross McCormack finding the roof of the net.

The Whites then travelled to Nethermoor to face Guiseley, and ran out 3-1 winners. The visitors took the lead through Sam Byram on 16 minutes, but the hosts equalised two minutes later through Wayne Brooksby, but United won it before the first-half was over, thanks to a strike from Andy Gray, and it second goal from midfielder Sam Byram.

Leeds United rounding off pre-season earlier today, with a 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool, and it was United who were the best side over 90 minutes. Despite Brendan Rodgers bringing a weakened line-up to Elland Road, it was still a side which contained the likes of Pepe Reina, Glen Johnson, Joe Allen and Steven Gerrard, but it was Leeds who struck first through David Norris, who fired home a low drive past Reina, after being found by a Rodolph Austin square ball, but with their only chance of the game Liverpool equalised, thanks to a Danny Wilson header.

The Whites edge their way into the next round.

http://i48.tinypic.com/107w0mq.jpg

http://i46.tinypic.com/1fddnm.png

Leeds United struggled to a 1-0 victory tonight at Elland Road, to progress into the next round of the Capital One Cup.

United who were being managed by Phil Walker for the first time, named a strong starting line-up for the match tonight, with Jamie Ashdown, Jason Pearce and Sam Byram starting for the first time, in a Leeds United shirt.

Micky Adams brought a strong side to Elland Road for this tie, with The Valiants coming and starting with a 4-4-2 formation, and looking to hit The Whites on the break, and knock the npower Championship side out of the cup.

Leeds United had the ball in the back of the net after just 28 seconds, with Ross McCormack opening the scoring. The goal was created by Honduras midfielder Ramon Nunez, he was handed the number 32 shirt before kick-off, and he played the ball into McCormack, who then fired the ball past Sam Johnson and into the net.

It was The Valiants who had the next best chance, and that fell to midfielder Darren Murphy, just after the 25th minute. The midfielder was found when Tom Pope pulled the ball back to him, and he then cut inside and fired in a low shot, which Jamie Ashdown had to push round the post.

The visitors had another great chance in first half injury time, with Kingsley James this time having the opportunity. The chance was created from a corner by Ashley Vincent, he whipped a cross into the penalty area, which found James free in the box, and his header had to be tipped over by goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown.

The home side had a great chance with just 20 minutes remaining, and it was debutant Dominic Poleon with the chance. The United number 26 was found by a Michael Brown pass, and Poleon skipped past Port Vale centre-back Gareth Owen, before firing in a low shot which Sam Johnson tipped wide.

Port Vale had the final good chance of the match, and it fell to striker Tom Pope. The Valiants striker was found from a long ball by left-back Doug Loft, he brought the pass down and fired in a drive, which cannoned back off the crossbar, with goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown beaten.

Full time here at Elland Road, and you have to feel that Leeds United have been let out of jail tonight, they may have won the match thanks to a Ross McCormack strike, but Port Vale were definitely the better side tonight.

Leeds United manager, Phil Walker, on the narrow win. "Well what can I say, we were really poor tonight especially in front of goal, and if we play like that against better sides, they will punish us, but I have already told the lads that in the dressing room."

Port Vale manager, Micky Adams, on the defeat. "Well I will be honest with you, I feel we did not deserve to lose, we are currently in administration, so to come here to put in a performance like that tonight, is something we can be proud of."

Leeds United starting line-up (4-4-2). Ashdown, Thompson, Kisnorbo (c), Pearce, Pugh, Byram, Brown, Nunez (Green 68), White, McCormack (Gray 61), Becchio (Poleon 53).
Subs not used. Kenny (gk), Drury, Norris, Payne.
Goalscorer. McCormack 1.
Booked. Nunez, Brown.

Port Vale starting line-up (4-4-2). Johnson, Yates, McDonald (McCombe 77), Owen, Loft (c), Murphy, Webster (Morsy 85), James (Dodds 45), Vincent, Pope, Willamson.
Subs not used. Boot (gk), Lloyd, Davies, Bartley.
Booked. Vincent.

Attendance. 11,306.
Referee. Martin Atkinson.
Man of the Match. Jamie Ashdown (Leeds United), rated at 8.6 over 90 minutes. If it was not for the Leeds goalkeeper tonight, the visitors would have easily won and knocked them out the cup.

Championship 2012-13 season preview.

This could be the most competitive season in recent years.

Last updated: August 17, 2012 2:30pm.

http://i49.tinypic.com/a4wm1f.png

http://i47.tinypic.com/2z7mtk9.jpg

The npower Championship season gets underway this evening, as Birmingham City host Leicester City, and Sky Sports now looks ahead to the new campaign.

The new season looks to be a competitive one with 18 teams out of the 24, having played in the Premier League at some point, since it came into place in 1992. There will be six new teams taking part in the npower Championship this season, relegated from the Premier League last season were Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and Wolves, while Charlton Athletic, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday gained promotion from the npower League One last season.

The two teams, who are expected to finish in the top two this season, and get promoted into the Barclays Premier League, are Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers, who were two of the three teams relegated last season from the top flight. It is The Trotters who are being tipped to win the title this season, they have managed to hold onto a number of key players from last season, including Kevin Davies, Martin Petrov and Zat Knight, while the likes of Matt Mills, Jay Spearing and Andy Lonergan have joined the club this summer. Meanwhile Blackburn Rovers are being tipped to finish runners-up this season, the board sacked Steve Kean during pre-season and replaced him with Alan Curbishley, who has a strong team to pick from this season, the likes of Paul Robinson, Scott Dann and Ruben Rochina have stayed from last season, while the likes of Nuno Gomes, Jordan Rhodes and Danny Murphy have been signed.

There are four teams who can finish in the play-off places, and one of those four will gain promotion into the Barclays Premier League, and this section will focus on who will finish from 3rd to 6th. Expected to finish in 3r.d place this season are Wolves, another one of the relegated teams from the Premier League last season, their squad experience should see them finish high up the table. Another former Premier League side from the Midlands are tipped to finish in 4th, with Birmingham City, who are being managed by Lee Clark this season, who will be hoping to have a good season at St. Andrews. It is Welsh side Cardiff City who are expected to finish in 5th, they have recruited well over the summer, including the signing of Craig Bellamy, who has joined on a free transfer from Liverpool. It is West Yorkshire side Leeds United who are being tipped to finish in 6th place, the club have a new manager this season in Phil Walker, and he will be looking to use the experience of Paddy Kenny and El-Hadji Diouf, to help gain promotion to the Premier League.

We will now focus on who we believe will complete the finish, in the top half of the table, and that is from 7th to 12th. It is Leicester City who we expect to finish just outside the play-off places, even with the strong side they have, it is expected they do not have a good enough team. Middlesbrough are expected to finish in 8th, Tony Mowbray has a very strong side, which has been improved in the summer, with the signing of Jonathan Woodgate, who is a top centre-back on his day. Blackpool who are managed by Ian Holloway are expected to finish in 9th, and they will be hoping the likes of Thomas Ince and Matt Phillips, can give the fans something to cheer about this season. Brighton and Hove Albion are being tipped to finish in 10th, with Gus Poyet looking to bring the best out of his squad. It is Hull City and Burnley who complete the top 12 in the table, with Hull we believe finishing in 11th, and Burnley in 12th.

We now look at who we believe will finish between 13th and 21st place, which is from around mid-table, to avoiding relegation. It is two fierce rivals who we believe will finish 13th and 14th, we believe those two positions will go to Derby County and Nottingham Forest respectively, both have good squad but we believe they will not have enough in them, to even finish in the top 12. From 15th to 21st place in the table we believe it will finish like this, Bristol City, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Watford, Millwall and Charlton Athletic.

The three teams we have predicted to be relegated will have one of the promoted teams in it, and two teams who always struggle every season. Finishing in 22nd we believe will be Huddersfield Town, the West Yorkshire club have lost striker Jordan Rhodes this summer to Blackburn Rovers, and despite receiving £8,000,000 for him, they have not replaced him with a goalscorer of his pedigree, so that will consign them to relegation. It will be fellow Yorkshire side Barnsley who we believe will finish in 23rd, and despite signing Mido during pre-season, we believe it will be relegation for them this season. Finishing the season bottom and in 24th place, we have predicted Peterborough United, a side who we believe do not even have one player, who can change a game, and that will make it a very long season for The Posh.

How the npower Championship table will finish.
1st. Bolton Wanderers.
2nd. Blackburn Rovers.
3rd. Wolves
4th. Birmingham City.
5th. Cardiff City.
6th. Leeds United.
7th. Leicester City.
8th. Middlesbrough.
9th. Blackpool.
10th. Brighton and Hove Albion.
11th. Hull City.
12th. Burnley.

Cheers Charlie M am glad you will be following. Yep a good pre-season for us, but we should have beaten Liverpool though.

Leeds United will get their npower Championship season underway tomorrow, at home to Ipswich Town, BBC Football now previews the 2012-13 season for them.

Elland Road has been the centre of changes this summer, the biggest one being Neil Warnock resigning as manager at the club, to be replaced by Phil Walker, who was a first team coach with The Whites before taking the job. The new manager has had a good start to life at the club, he led United to an unbeaten pre-season campaign, which included a draw at home to Liverpool, before disposing of Port Vale in the Capital One Cup last weekend. He will be without centre-back Tom Lees for another month or two, the defender picked up a dislocated shoulder during pre-season training, and that will be a big blow for The Whites.

A total of 11 players have been signed by United over the summer, all of them deals being completed before Neil Warnock left the club, in July. A number of players have been signed over the summer months, who this season will prove to be key players at this level, including Paddy Kenny, Jason Pearce, Luke Varney and El-Hadji Diouf. Other players to be signed in the summer are Adam Drury, Paul Green, Andy Gray, Jamie Ashdown, David Norris, Lee Peltier and Rodolph Austin, but Austin could prove to be a key player, having won 48 caps at international level for Jamaica, and was known as "The Beast" as former club SK Brann.

The summer clear-out at Elland Road has seen a total of 12 players depart the club, with 11 of those players being sold by Neil Warnock. The players to leave the club this summer are Alex Bruce, Lloyd Sam, Mikael Forssell, Maik Taylor, Danny Webber, Adam Clayton, Andy Lonergan, Robert Snodgrass, Andy O'Brien, Billy Paynter, Robbie Rogers and Paul Connolly.

As for the season ahead for The Whites, it is going to be a tough one, especially as this is the first job in football management for new boss Phil Walker, who took over from Neil Warnock in July. He does have a strong team to choose from, but does not have the biggest squad available, and it is reported Walker only has around £300,000 available to him, to spend in the transfer window.

What you need to know about this season for Leeds United.

The star player. The star player for United this season will be El-Hadji Diouf, who only arrived at the club this summer, but is the biggest name on the books at Elland Road, but he does only have a deal until January, so manager Phil Walker will have to move quickly, if he wants to keep him for any longer.

The best youngster. The best youngster at Elland Road has to be Sam Byram, he has been heavily involved in with the first team since the arrival of the new boss, and could prove to be the breakthrough act of the season.

Keep an eye out for. The player to keep an eye out for will be Luciano Becchio, the striker who has been on the books at Elland Road since 2008, will be looking to score and cause problems for oppositions this season.

Where they will finish this season. Between mid-table and the play-off places.

Odds to win the league with Ladbrokes. 25/1.

Expected to finish top scorer. Ross McCormack.

Expected starting line-up. Kenny, Peltier, Lees, Pearce, Pugh, Diouf, Austin, Norris, White, McCormack, Becchio.

Captain/vice-captain. Lee Peltier/Patrick Kisnorbo.

Leeds United secured a victory on the opening day of the npower Championship, by defeating Ipswich Town 2-1 today at Elland Road.

The home side made six changes to the side that beat Port Vale in midweek, out went Jamie Ashdown, Zac Thompson, Patrick Kisnorbo, Aidan White, Michael Brown and Ramon Nunez, to be replaced by Paddy Kenny, Paul Green, Lee Peltier, Adam Drury, Rodolph Austin and David Norris.

Ipswich Town however made just the two changes from midweek, in a game which saw League Two side Gillingham take them to extra time, before The Tractor Boys secured victory, out went Luke Chambers and Luke Hyam, to be replaced by Tommy Smith and Massimo Luongo.

The first real chance of the game fell to the home side and they scored the opening goal from it, with midfielder Danny Pugh finding the net on 18 minutes. It was youngster Sam Byram who got the assist for the goal, the was found by a David Norris pass into the box, Byram then fired in a low shot which Scott Loach could only push away, and the ball fell into the path of Pugh, who riffled a side footed drive home into the roof of the net.

The Whites doubled their lead just 12 minutes after that opening goal, and it was a header from striker Ross McCormack which doubled the lead. The goal yet again was created by Sam Byram, he was found by a Rodolph Austin pass out wide, before crossing the ball across the box, to find McCormack who nodded home inside the six-yard box, to make it 2-0.

Ipswich had a very good chance to pull one back two minutes before half-time, but Paddy Kenny made a good save to deny Andy Drury. The chance came from a free-kick which Rodolph Austin had conceded, after clattering into Massimo Luongo, Drury took the free-kick and it was heading for the top corner, until Kenny got there to tip the shot over.

The pressure on the home goal from The Tractor Boys paid off on 69 minutes, when Jay Emmanuel-Thomas found the net. The Ipswich number nine was found by a cross from Luke Hyam, the attacker saw his header tipped onto the crossbar by Paddy Kenny, but Emmanuel-Thomas reacted before everybody else, to tap home into an empty goal.

The home side should have made it 3-1 with just eight minutes remaining, but Luciano Becchio rattled the woodwork. The Argentinian striker was found by a great Michael Brown ball over the top, before bringing it down and rounding Scott Loach, but he took it too wide and saw his shot hit the post, from a narrow angle.

The final whistle has gone here at Elland Road, and Leeds United have got their season off to a winning start, thanks to goals from Danny Pugh and Ross McCormack, the visitors did pull one back thanks to Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, but could not find the equaliser.

Leeds United manager, Phil Walker, on the win. "It is great to start the league campaign with a victory, but yet again I feel we was the luckier of the two teams, and to only have 39% of possession is not good enough, so we will have to work on this at Leicester City on Tuesday night."

Ipswich Town boss, Paul Jewell, on the narrow loss. "Well I feel we was very unlucky this afternoon, we had more shots, more shots on target and more possession, but somehow we still lost the game today, but there are positives to take from the game today."

Leeds United starting line-up (4-4-2). Kenny, Green (Kisnorbo 74), Peltier (c), Pearce, Drury, Byram, Austin (Brown 60), Norris, Pugh, Becchio, McCormack (Poleon 67).

The ticket office has confirmed this afternoon that we have sold 12,000 season tickets for this season.

The deadline for buying season tickets was yesterday at noon, with the ticket office spending yesterday afternoon, and this morning counting up how many we have sold. Even though we did not hit our expected amount of 13,500 season tickets, we are happy with our season ticket sales for this season.

The average adult season ticket has cost a fan £480, but this allows fans to not attend every home league game, but be a high priority for away games, and to be first in line for cup game tickets, when they go on sale.
