Ashley and Charnley really need to go.
It also hasn't happened yet, McClaren is still the manager ffs
Dear me
Shola
That said Newcastle fans are complaining about appointing a manager they want, who is seen as a massive upgrade.

I'm still to be convinced as even with all this speculation and reporting, I will only be convinced if or when a press conference unveils him as manager.

Three year deal apparently.

From coaching Ronaldo to the Championship in the space of 8 months is a bit shit for him
Ninja
Providing he keeps them up for next year the Premier League has a veritable who's who of the top managers in the game in the offing.

Has he ever had that at any club?
Always struck me as the continental head coach type.

I dunno - but it's quite clear our model isn't fit for purpose. It's possibly a good idea if the people behind the scenes are competent at their jobs. But Lee Charnley isn't. Graham Carr hasn't unearthed any good players in a while either and it makes very little sense to me to have the Chief Scout on the board.
Hopefully he keeps us up and is given time to rebuild - probably the best manager we could have attracted.
That said, he hasn't met our board yet - and they love fucking everything up - we'll have Sherwood by Monday most likely.
Ninja
I think thats the key thing, I don't think the structure at a football club makes as much difference as people think. I've advocated for United adopting a similar back room structure to yours on here before (Graham Carr is your chief scout officially, but it seems from the outside he is basically a director of football?), but at the end of the day its more important that you just get competent people making the decisions. Clearly Newcastle don't have that, and its hard to see how appointing Benitez alone will address that.
Poe
Yeah, he pretty much makes all the signings. Trying to replace Ben Arfa with Cabella was ridiculous as they're both completely different players, albeit both talented. It kind of changed with McClaren and the signings of Shelvey and Townsend - but the common consensus is that Benitez wants to go back to the normal approach of managers having the final say.
I'm not so sure that'll be good given his history of buying a lot of shit while he was at Liverpool - but hopefully he can use our scouting system (which does seem moderately succesful - people like Tiote, Cabaye, Perez, Mbemba, Ben Arfa, Sissoko, Debuchy, Janmaat all came in for very little and have been relatively succesful) and make small additions.
I think the main thing is the players will have respect for him - Pardew and McClaren didn't have a particularly convincing managerial CV so when the going got tough the players were probably questioning him - something that shouldn't happen with Benitez.

Anyway Newcastle have sacked 3 coaches and brought in 3 Spanish coaches. Contrasting with when they wouldn't let Hughton and Pardew get in an assistant.
King Luis
He also won the Champions League with a squad containing Djimi Traore & Igor Biscan

It's a shame though that it's (probably) going to be a ten game contract. Prove me wrong.
Shola
Proof sharing is caring. - Was Benitez as good once he got rid of those guys and replaced them with Morientes and Jared Leto?
King Luis
Oh my bad, you'd be much better of with Pearson wouldn't you.
Ninja
To be fair, they might be.
If Benitez keeps them up theres no doubt in my mind that he'll be a success there, but the keeping them up is a the big if. As far as I'm aware Benitez has never managed a club in this position before, nor players as average as some at Newcastle. I don't think its a hugely controversial thing to say that someone like Pearson might have been the better appointment short term.
King Luis
Pearson wouldn't come in just in the short term though, he'd want a long term deal, like most managers. Then Newcastle would end up stuck with him in the Premiership. This way (if the relegation clause is true) they have a chance to fight with a manager like Benitez, if they stay up they have the best manager they could have hoped for and if they get relegated and Rafa buggers off then they can get Pearson or someone who has a history of doing well in the Championship in.
Also Rafa hasn't always been at top clubs, not like he's done a Neville and gone straight to a top club.
Shola
Have a glace at Benitez' wikipedia page.
Pearson would have been a great appointment - they way it took 8 months to put Leicester into a workable formation was art.

I meant come in and saved a team in this position, or managed a team that was relatively as hopeless. There's a difference between managing in a lower league, and managing a poor side in a lower league. Which I'm note certain he's ever done to great success, but then again, I'm not exactly clued up with how shit the sides he did well at early on were before he took over.
Anyway, I'm just playing Devil's Advocate really. He'd have been my choice if I was them too.
Poe
Rafa is the best we can attract, no doubt.

Carroll.
