least of our worries as this is getting very scary now

Yeah all English leagues cancelled for 3 weeks but to be honest I expect this whole season to be void at some point.

Today, I've had my first personal connection to the corona virus when I was told about a new special procedure involving my work to ensure the safety of people there with low resistance to viruses.

Then I heard that my lower league team's futsal practices have been cancelled for now.

Also, our upcoming lower league football season is already under threat - it might get delayed and reduced into a mere stump at the backend of the upcoming summer. Having practiced and/or played sports since I was 12 or 13-years-old and never missed a training, unless having been forced to do so by an injury, this feels really weird, unreal and kind of empty too.

I do not mean to undermine any people directly affected or threatened by the corona virus. This is simply my own experience. I wish you all the best. Stay safe out there!

Yes everyone is going to have to give up social activities for sometime

Find it amazing when UK had foot and mouth Cheltenham was cancelled to stop the spread of the disease

This week humans are obviously less important than horses

shows the power of the bookies

Or lack of political leadership

Or both

It's farcical that event has been allowed to go on

Surprised it hasn't already happened in the UK tbf, given that it is the case everywhere else.

Non-league games not being called off by the league, must be less important than the EFL.

It does sound very odd indeed.

Here's a funny comparison: My futsal/football team's lower league (very low, that is) games and practice sessions have been now cancelled for the unforseeable future, and we're on fully amateur level and our matches gather maybe a crowd of 15-20 people at most. Not very many people to infect or be infected by others to be honest.

We've been criticising the decision to close the big indoors sports hall that we've bought our training hours from. Officially sports & entertainment events with a crowd/mass of people larger than 500 are to be cancelled. Now, we practice futsal 5 on 5 (including the keepers) with a total number of 10-16 participants per training session and that is apparently deemed a dangerously large mass of people to be in the same space (big sports hall). The number of people and their spacing equals or is exceeded by that of consumers in any grocery store around here.

No one's telling folks not to go into the local stores, but apparently us training is too big of a risk. And , of course us adults cannot be trusted to be responsible towards our own teammates and stay out of sports practice if we feel ill.

It will be hard, schools here in Portugal will close from the next Monday until (no one knows exactly) ...but Universities are already closed. Bad thing is, the malls are still open...so the kids will go there, then there are other kids...i don't know if infected or not... and then..

People have to stop and think, this has nothing to do with not letting people live... it has to do with contain the spread of the virus so we can go back to live the way we are used to.

It's ridiculous. York have called off their game against Alty which is a good move given there would've likely been about 2,500 people there. Yeah went to a shopping centre last night after work and there was absolutely more than 500 people there, some with coughs and whatnot, so surely that should be closed down? It's all a bit silly this.

My missus works at a shop here in the UK called The Range, don't really know how to describe it to those outside of the UK - it sells a bit of everything.

Today was a nightmare at the store, very busy. They've sold out of loo roll (again), all the hand sanitiser is long gone and now people are stocking up on bottled water! Don't understand, myself.

I am an ex pat so know the range

yes mate it hard for people like this as they still have to go to work its a worry I bet take care up top sounds really bad just hear from friends who were with us for xmas that they are in lockdown for 2 weeks and my elderly mum is getting afraid to go out for several reasons....its bloody terrible but from what I have been made aware of this could be something that goes on for 4/6 months until things are back to being even normal

worrying times health is obviously the main priority , but the world economy is tanking too

That seems crazy. China have just released 36k+ of recovered Corona patients from hospitals and that kicked off over there in January, their numbers are falling now. 4 months tops for the actual virus to run its course in infecting people in Europe (inluding the UK, Brexit doesn't change geography); as for how long until the economy recovers - that's the real question!

China wasnt honest as to when this really kicked off though, the early whistle blower was hinting at november last year

also even if it is a 4 month time scale not all nations will have it at the same time so realistically we are looking at a very long time before everything gets back to functioning as it was, in that time many businesses will have folded sad to say

This is from a briefing by our person /medical expert dealing with it here-

''Don't expect the coronavirus pandemic to be over by Christmas.

Instead, New Zealand is set for a long, drawn-out battle with the virus as different waves of the pandemic hit separate countries at different times''

Australians have been told they face at least six months of restrictions to their daily lives as the country’s prime minister, Scott Morrison, set out a host of measures designed to combat the spread of the virus.

Morrison has advised Australians not to gather in groups of more than 100, declared a human biosecurity emergency and told Australians they should not to travel internationally, adding that the anti-virus measures are likely to be in place for at least six months.
