Barely any time after last season's over, and still behind closed doors (for now), looks like the Premier League is set to come around for another year.
Be great if a Leicester 2016-esque random winner comes along. Though judging by most people's pre-season guesses, that would be anyone other than Manchester City or Liverpool winning it. And that's assuming we can actually finishing this thing.
It was an interesting battle, Leeds have been a breath of fresh air and I really hope they stay up, the fact they survived a Championship season under Bielsa stands them in good stead, normally he has broken the team physically and mentally (training under fatigue) by March/April! I'm really looking forward to when he comes up against one of his coaching disciples, just to see what the old master comes up with and how the student attempts to counter.
I've mixed feelings about Bielsa's aborted term at Lazio, on one hand it would have been amazing to have a world class manager at the helm, on the other, the players he asked for (the reason things fell apart, Lazio said they'd talked to all of the players, turned out they didn't!) were mediocre at best and Igle Tare, on a slim budget, has brought in an amazing amount of players who've either developed or rebounded at Lazio and became far better than they were.
Like most football fans I love Bielsa and it would be amazing to see him tear up the Premier League with Leeds, history isn't in his favor, hopefully it's wrong this time.
Still doesn't quite feel like football is back without fans - but it might also be my cancelling my Sky sports/ BT sports subscription that has affected this too!
Man City game off, Fulham and Southampton's managers having to do their jobs from home, Sheffield United confirming they have backroom positive tests, rumours the Fulham v Spurs game will be off due to covid, Arsenal having to keep players out of their bubble, a huge amount of League One games getting postponed, and more besides makes me wonder how far away we could be from this whole thing having to be stopped again.
I think the football authorities are going to be trying everything possible to keep the show on the road, but equally, its getting to the point where it has to be seen as possible... eep.
What a surprise that Newcastle channelled the generosity they afforded Derby in 2007/08 and were beaten by the previously winless Sheffield United. Yeesh.

Better get on with it I guess.

Liverpool won't win the league this year if they defend like that regularly and Leeds won't go down if they perform like that all season.
Hibee
