One good piece of advice I got was to read poems and use lyrics from them. For Whom The Bell toll is a good example, and there are tons more.

Yeah, Before The Devil Knows You're Dead comes from an irish blessing "And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead."

Unfortunately my knowledge of poetry isn't as vast as I'd have people believe.

How is Poor Man's Icarus any more obvious than The Old Man and The Sea or Crime and Punishment?

"The Old Man and The Sea of Crime and Punishment" would make a decent title.
