This file will need to be re-applied if/when official patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, do NOT apply in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2023 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed, such as Premier League displaying instead of Premier Division. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are all fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for Brazilian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian (including Napoli) and French clubs, as well as Manchester Utd, to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Brazilian clubs' text colours are also changed through an editor data file. Another editor data file creates the Ajax non-playing staff and the German national team manager missing from the database due to licensing restrictions. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

The easiest way to get to these folders is by going to Finder > Go > Go to Folder and copy and paste these exact paths and you will be taken to the right places ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2023/data/database/db/2300/

Alternatively you can get to the Library folder by simply selecting Go from the top bar and holding "alt" key - The Library folder suddenly appears on the drop down menu

If you can't find where your Xboxgames folder is, you can find it by clicking on “More actions” button (three dots that appears when you move your mouse cursor over Football Manager 2023 on Xbox app), then “Manage” → “Files” tab → “Browse…” button.

By default this folder is hidden, so to access you need to do as follows:
Open Finder
Click ‘Go’ from the menubar
Press and hold down the ‘Option’ (Alt) key
This will bring up the ‘Library’, click to enter then go to ‘Application Support’ -> ‘Sports Interactive’ -> ‘Football Manager 2023’
Equivalent folder for Steam Deck

This should be what your editor data folder looks like now. There may initially be a config.xml file in this folder and it can be safely overwritten; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to English Premier Division in your saved game, and it should be renamed to Premier League. If you are in the middle of a save-game when you install this download, Japanese and German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not immediately. Do keep in mind that this file does not add Japan-based players, who are not in the official database and will need a third-party add-on to be created and added.
Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.

I just downloaded and installed the new update following all your instruction. Now most of my cut out pics are gone and all the club and country logos are also changed back into its original state. Now my game looks like I just started everything. No custom flags, logo, pics, etc. What should I do?

This file does not edit any graphics whatsoever. Either you've installed the files from this download completely in the wrong place or you've installed them wrongly.

Sorry for my ignorance and confusion, but FM23.5 refers to the data update from sortitoutsi, right? So if I didn't install that update, I don't need to do anything, yes?

You should reapply this fix again, even if you're not starting a new save game, since this official update re-adds some of the files removed as part of previous versions of this download. If you don't, your Brazilian club names will change back to three letters, as will as some Italian club names, German and Japanese national teams will see grey players instead of real ones etc.
Those who used the workaround in the first post to change their club name after starting their career will need to do so again.

Ahhh…..ok, thanks so much. Will do the necessary then.
But weirdly enough, my game files haven't been updated yet by Steam. I just checked, and it's still shown as 23.4. Even when I try to start a new game, the selectable data is still only the 23.4 update. Weird. But not a big deal for me since I don't play the China league at all. I'll keep monitoring though. If and when my game updates, I'll apply this new fix then. Thanks again.

Because the update is 23.5 but database version is 23.4, and it necessary to reapply all fixes, like with for example 23.2 update which wasn't ‘database’ update.

I'm having an issue. I start a save with Versailles and it spelled like this, and then when I load the game again, it changes back to Versailles 78. Any idea why that would happen? I've also changed the Inc file and it's the same

Started a career with Palmeiras a few days ago and had downloaded the fix prior to the save and everything was working beautifully. Booted the game up again today to find all the Brazilian licensing has reverted back to generic graphics/abbreviated names. This occurred after I closed and restarted the game. Do I need to redownload the fix and start a new save or is there another solution? Thanks for the help!

Hello guys !
I have a little problem with my game. For japaneses leagues, the game doesn't want to recognize the names present in the database.
The short name of the J2 League is "J1 League" and I didn't know why ….
For all Japanese leagues, the long names are just "J1 League", "J2 League", "J3 League"... I can change all the other championship names (Germany for exemple …) for others country, but for Japan, it's impossible.
I try add “French” ("COMP_LONG_NAME_CHANGE" 115424 "Meiji-Yasuda J.League Division Two" "French" & "COMP_SHORT_NAME_CHANGE" 115424 "J2 League" "French"), but no difference.
Anyone know why this isn't working?

Are you running an editor data file perchance? Might be an issue in it. Changes in an editor data file cannot be overwritten by those in an lnc file.

It doesn't matter which version you already have, when new FM update/patch is out, it's better to download the newest version of the file. So download this, delete required folders and copy the new ones (like in the instruction), and enjoy the game.

I did everything in the video and it shows the 9 files when i select database but then there are no changes to the leagues or teams in Advanced setup. Even the flags stay country flags and not league badges like in the video

I'm playing FM Touch on Mac via Apple Arcade, I've done the first 4 steps, however when it comes to step 5 I don't have this folder
I can get into Application Support, Sports Interactive, however it only has Football Manager 2021 showing for me, nothing about Football Manager Touch 2023. Is there a fix to this please?
