Giroud don't need no partner.

In all seriousness, probably Rooney and van Persie, although Suarez and Sturridge have been in better form over the past few weeks. Both partnerships are enviable though. We could do with a world class striker but thankfully we do alright with Giroud and the superb array of attacking midfielders at our disposal.

My thoughts exactly - it was downright negligent and incredibly irresponsible. The medical staff should have final say irrespective of what the player wants and Villas-Boas should have made sure that was the case.


They need a rule like American sports in this situation. Any sign of concussion and they have to come out the game. Imagine if he had got hit in the head again.

Yeah, but when it stops he's rather ineffective.
The upside is that Suarez creates a lot so Sturridge is more likely to score on a regular basis and thus be useful.

I really don't think Suarez is that good at creating chances for others, he just has an ability to create chances for himself out of nothing. I also don't think Sturridge is that one dimensional any more these days, he just has a tendency to turn in to Defoe when things aren't coming off for him.

Given how little actual football there is to talk about might as well mention this.

I thought AVB really showed himself up today. Lloris admitted to not knowing the score, nor where he was yet he allowed himself to be persuaded into keeping him on the pitch.

Someone needs to give him a rocket for that, downright dangerous and all not to 'waste' a substitution.


imo, the FA needs to take some of the blame for that. There should be a ruling saying that the medical staff get final say in all decisions such as this one.

I do wonder if we need a rule change in general.

Seeing as we can't apparently rely on managers to actually use their substitutions for players safety and the laws already specify that a head injury is more serious than any other on the pitch then it might be right to see an enforced medical substitution for suspected concussion in the hands of the medical staff (possibly independent ones at that)

A clear set of guidelines (questions such as where are you, what is the score, test the players balance etc... similar to the current Rugby Union rules) and a mandatory 1 week break if concussion is suspected.

If a player is knocked out he shouldn't be allowed continue, simple as that and steps should be taken to ensure that what happened with Lloris yesterday doesn't happen again. It's all good that Lloris doesn't have any concussion or damage but nobody could have safely made that assessment at Goodison Park yesterday and player safety has to be the main thing. No need for a mandatory break though, I mean if they've a concussion a scan will show that and the player will be unavailable until that's cleared up, whether that's a week or longer, if they've no damage they can continue on as normal, but only if there is no damage.

Just saw the 'On this Day feature' from 2006 when Sheffield United beat Newcastle 1-0 in 2006.

I miss the days when promoted teams would get promoted and make these kind of signings, (and have a chance of staying up). Rather than spend £8m on England International defenders.

I know, I just liked it better when promoted teams were really rubbish, rather than buying their way into mid-table.

tbf Vorm did sort of kick someone in the chest, arguably a violent conduct ban would be more appropriate.

The FA has extended its ability to charge ‘not seen’ incidents after a mid-season review.

For some ten years under its current regulations The FA has been able to bring retrospective action for certain sending-off incidents not seen by the match officials during the game.

The FRA (Football Regulatory Authority) has now given its approval so that The FA will be able to consider retrospective action in the two following situations, in addition to those already within the existing charging policy:
firstly, for acts of violent conduct that occur secondarily to a challenge for the ball;
and secondly, in off-the-ball incidents where one or more match official did see the players coming together, but the match officials’ view was such that none of them had the opportunity to make a decision on an act of misconduct that took place within that coming together.
This policy adjustment will be implemented in the Premier League, Football League and Football Conference (National Division) from 22 November, immediately following the international break. The FA has contacted clubs in these leagues to inform them of the impending change.

FA Director of Governance Darren Bailey said: “This enables The FA to consider acts of violent conduct, like an elbow or a stamp, which have occurred after a challenge for the ball or coming together of players.

“It is sometimes difficult for officials to see such incidents, as they are often concentrating solely on the challenge for possession of the ball, and we are mindful of this. Also, where off-the-ball incidents are concerned, the policy adjustment will allow action to be taken where an act of misconduct could not have been seen by the match officials, even though they may have seen some part of the players coming together.

“This is an important step forward for the game and provides an appropriate level of discretion for The FA to consider action. However, we remain of the view that the best outcome for all is that referees are able to make correct judgements on the day to benefit the teams involved.”
