What did you make of 2001?

I watched it three years ago and am still trying to process that movie.

Cinematic masterpiece.

Cinematic masterpiece.

I think in the end I just stopped trying to work out what the fuck was going on and instead just appreciated the fact that such a beautifully made film was released in 1968. Crazy how well it stands up today.

The Chaser and Memoreis of Murder are simply stunning. Very Korean in their themes, but stunningly made and acted. The Chaser in particular is just a remarkable piece of work, intense and expertly directed. I'm going to give Mother a watch tonight, which has very good reviews too.

Did not like I Saw The Devil at all. Thought it was dumb as shit.

Memories of Murder is incredible, though.

I thought it was okay. It looked great and was well filmed, the story itself is a bit bollocks and requires leaps of faith that aren't earned. But the acting is good for what they were given to work with. Choi Min-sik is about as legit as it comes in terms of acting and I'm excited to see him in speaking English in Lucy. He deserves international recognition because he makes any role look good.

He is absolutely fantastic. His performance in Oldboy goes down as one of the greatest performances of all time.
But his role in I Saw The Devil is just shite.

So many shots of him looking "cool", smoking a cigarette as he's about to murder someone. Also just after their first encounter, he wakes up, goes to a hospital and tries to rape a nurse? It's a cartoon version of a serial killer.

Saw Frances Ha. It's brilliant.

Galaxy Quest and 50/50 which I both liked, The Breakfast Club which I guess you had to watch at the time because it didn't impress me.

I just didn't get what I was supposed to love about it, I didn't find it funny or particularly interesting. The characters were pretty good I suppose.

Watched Michael Clayton, Thank You for Smoking and The Insider over the last few days.

Liked them all, but The Insider was really, really good.

Ditto.

I'm struggling to properly articulate the emotions I'm feeling after seeing it. Cinematic bliss.

It was my first IMAX film actually, I need to see it in "normal" 3D too now and maybe even 2D just to see what it's like.

Yeah it doesn't even compare to the other two.

Watched Spring Breakers, really disappointing. I just thought the story and some of the characters were completely unconvincing.

My feelings about Spring Breakers is that it deliberately messes with the viewers general expectations.

First 30 minutes were some of the most boring I've ever had watching films, but after the girls get bailed out of jail things got really interesting. The Britney Spears scene is just brilliant.

I thought the robots in The World's End were a pretty perfect metaphor for the film itself.
It looks and acts like an Edgar Wright film, but it just doesn't feel like one.

Regarding Spring Breakers, I think it's a good film, but it's probably fifteen minutes too long.
