it will almost certainly be Van Gaal or Blanc. Van Gaal is unemployed after the world cup and has always wanted to manage in England, and Blanc whilst he is doing very well with PSG I don't think there is enough reasons for him to stay, especially if we're gonna try and go big in the market this summer. The likes of Klopp, Simeone and Conte are all doing brilliantly and all seem very loyal.

Hopefully though Van Gaal can be a short term fix and hope Klopp becomes available. He seems to be overwhelmingly the supporters choice.

What a fucking Mickey Mouse organisation United have become if that is true.

Honigstein was peddling that yesterday.

No one else was, not a single person who you can actually reliably assume knows whats going on in the world of Manchester United i.e. the Mark Ogden's of this world.

He's usually full of shit when it comes to United, so he's best ignored imo.

Edit: James Ducker has just tweeted him calling him out on it, another very clued in journalist on Manchester United.

And Honigstein has since backed down on it over his insistence, with Phil McNulty (of all people) weighing in.

There's no way you'd resign if you knew they wanted rid of you and you were going to get 5m for it.

Definitely false rumour.

I really, really like the sound of everything he's said there, basically a manifesto for doing everything differently to Moyes.

He's actually largely got the best out of the side when he's played Mata and Kagawa together largely having to play one of them 'out of posistion' to accommodate the other.

Mostly the problem has been a complete lack of understanding on how to use a player like Mata, rather than where to play him, and hopefully a competent manager won't have that problem.

Complete cack I'm afraid. Maybe in bursts theres been improved performances when both have played but it isn't anything that's going to last. It's also entirely irrelevant at the end of the day either and doesn't cover up the fact he spunked £37m on a player who plays his best football through the middle, only to play him wide more often than not. It made even less sense to spend that much on a player completely unrequired when you have a freshly re-signed 300k p/w forward who also plays his best football in the exact same position, while also having a largely underused talent in Kagawa for the role also. All it did was create a far greater headache because he left him with the task of trying to fit as many of Rooney, RvP, Mata, Kagawa and Januzaj into the same side as he could.

As I mentioned ages ago, and has shown to the the case in a couple of the latter games United have played. Mata out wide exposes the fullback because of the complete lack of defensive qualities he offers. It's compounded even more when that left back is one that has had his own performance levels dip as well.

At the end of the day a lot of that rests on Moyes' shoulders and showcased just how out of his depth he was.

I really, really like the sound of everything he's said there, basically a manifesto for doing everything differently to Moyes.

(1) His win ratio is a staggering 62 per cent through the course of 22 years in the dugout. It all makes for impressive reading, especially when the respective locations of his triumphs are considered; Ajax, Barcelona, AZ Alkmaar and Bayern Munich.
(2) He is well known for his eccentric behvaiour as well as idiosyncratic tendencies when it comes to man management.Take one tale relayed to the press by Bayern’s Luca Toni where Van Gaal dropped his trousers in front of the squad to demonstrate he had the ‘balls’ to axe any player from the starting line-up.
(3) He physically assaulted a 14 year old Pique whilst manager at Barcelona
"Piqué's grandfather was even a club director, and one day he invited Barcelona's coach Louis van Gaal to lunch. "This," he said, introducing the young Gerard, "is my grandson – a centre-back for Barcelona's youth team." Van Gaal looked at Piqué and, without warning, pushed him over. Towering above the 14- year-old, he barked: "You're too weak to be a Barcelona defender.""
(4) He has had a long running feud with Johan Cruyff since 1989
"Van Gaal, along with the Koeman brothers, had taken up an invitation to have dinner at the Cruyff family home. "The phone rang, it was for me," recounted Van Gaal in his 2009 autobiography. "It was my family, ringing to tell me my sister had died. I rushed out immediately. Later I heard that Johann was angry I didn't thank him for the meal.""
(5) Although the 1995 Champions League final against Milan was all about Patrick Kluivert's late winner for Ajax, Van Gaal got his fair share of attention as well for one particular incident during the game. When the referee refused to award the Dutch side a free kick when Marcel Desailly nearly decapitated Jari Litmanen, Van Gaal was apoplectic and imitated Desailly's action with an impressive karate kick.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-s6tO01hVE
(6) During his time at Barça, Louis Van Gaal once uttered his dream of one day seeing Barça play a game with eleven players from La Masia. It was a nice thought, but most people just laughed at the idea as it was seen to be impossible in modern football. But 10 years later on November 24th 2012 against Levante, Van Gaal’s dream became reality.

(7) Some vintage quotes by Van Gaal
"I have achieved more with Ajax in six years than Barcelona has in one hundred years." - In 1997 after becoming coach of Barcelona
"Louis van Gaal has nothing more to learn" - Said about himself in 2001
"Guardiola follows the Van Gaal Philosophy. So I’m not surprised Bayern have hired Guardiola. Bayern always hire the best managers" - Van Gaal 2013
"If you want to, go ahead." - After a reporter asked Van Gaal whether he wanted to congratulate his former friend Ronald Koeman with winning the Eredivisie with PSV
(8) Some vintage quotes about Van Gaal
"Van Gaal really has Alzheimer's if he writes stuff like that. You wonder whether he has one or two screws loose." - Johan Cruyff
"Van Gaal is the Hitler of the Brazilian players, is arrogant, proud and has a problem. He has no idea of football. His type is sick, he's crazy." - Giovanni
"His management style reminds me of that of Felix Magath,"
-Karl-Heinz Rummenigge ( This is not a compliment)
(9) Journalists don't know jack. This has always been Van Gaal's default position on handling the media. Throughout the course of his career Van Gaal has done nothing to disguise his feelings of sheer contempt towards journalists, certain questions were dismissed as "parrot music," numerous TV journalists who encountered him had trouble keeping it together in the face of a manager who treated every query as a personal insult.

Also says Klopp wouldn't be interested until 2015 whereas Van Gaal would like the job now.

Surely Jose won't come, it would be quite funny though. He really wanted to replace Fergie.

I'm not so keen on Van Gaal. If we did appoint him I can't see him staying long, and then after he leaves Klopp could step in.

I don't want a managerial merry-go-round though. I want someone for the long term.

I think the worst thing ye can do is hire Giggs permanently, would effectively be "stagnating" Utd as a club who don't like change at all: Fergie choosing Moyes cos he was similar to him, then hiring a person who played under Fergie his entire career. Yous need a guy who is radically different from anything ye have seen/done before. Van Gaal could be that guy

As a coach (Louis Van Gaal) he is known as a slow starter who frequently finds his players needing ample time to grasp his tactics and intent of play. Generally his teams gather results in the second or third season under his coaching.

You might be lucky and land Simeone, especially if he wins la Liga (he knows next season it will be tougher to win it).

Anyway, the smart thing to do will be:
- hire a temp for the last 3 games (probably Giggs)
- wait at least until the end of the season to name a new FT manager (it would be stupid to rush a decision now)
- Van Gaal would be a good option for a season, max 2, but ONLY IF you couldn't land now the one for long term (Klopp=Simeone>Conte)

In my books Klopp and Simeone are of equal quality, but I see how Klopp is a bigger attraction being he is perceived to be a very loyal manager and you want a new Fergie (a manager to be here for you for years and years on end).

This is the second time I will say it to you. You don't watch Manchester United play. Mata doesn't expose the left back because he's never played on the left.

You also don't watch Manchester United play because the idea that Rooney is anything better than hopeless 'in the Mata role' has long since been rejected. Additionally Mata hasn't done very well so far because he hasn't done very well, regardless of where he's played.

Regardless, I don't really give a fuck because I'm fully excited to see what a good manager can do with Mata in this side because whether you choose to remember it or not Mata is one of the best in this league and perhaps one you might be remiss to have sold given the massive dip in form of one Oscar over the last few months.

Depends on what he does.

If he's as bad in every sense then he'll probably be sacked similarly, if he offers some glimmer of hope in regards to the football we've been playing then I suspect he'll get time, even with similar results and the argument that the squad is shit might get some respect from United fans.

Really unsure it's possible though

I've been wording this slightly weird and got some mental responses..

Whoever does come in has a lot of work to do either way, if he keeps the same squad they're going to do shit.

It depends on your description of same squad though.

Yes, no signings will lead to the same imbalances, but a complete overhaul being needed is simply apologising for Moyes' failure.
