Blackpool - Pre Season Round Up 2024

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Jm0LXkEuQOKNlF7cRD66ht3DlxG6U2vXgZpDixCK.png

I've only been manager of Blackpool for a month or two but already I've rang the changes through the squad to make sure we are ready and strong enough (hopefully) to compete for the league One title and send Blackpool straight back to the Championship. The media are tipping us to finish second, behind Huddersfield. I want the top spot, well, I just want promotion and to move on, probably.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/pawWYtc2WZB0rRgMYklajtYOKHJ6Oihsr6GmSM4U.png

As I said, a lot of changes occured this summer, infact, twenty three or so players left the squad, most went on free transfers and most the day I joined as I showed the deadwood the door. Sunderland made big deals for youngsters Masirika and Garnett and we ended up earning seven and a half million this summer.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/1K4a5rGsFnWgHFNKFSbJQGNho15Zd06JmdVuOdCY.png

Coming in I decided not to spend any money, there were a couple players available but with a short wage budget I had to transfer it to that. I brought in three players on loan as well as extended the two who were here form United last season. I signed Jesse Joronen, a Finnish keeper released by Liverpool and Zidane, a centre back who was released from Spurs.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/16AALeA3XYjeBUgtDnhBkXJLv44PTUGXYx7nQ9X3.png

I'm much happier with the way the squad looks now and the potential quality we possess for the season ahead. I don't see many reasons to stop us from having a successful season here in League one. Maybe still a little short on the attacking foot but its something I can still add to once the season has started until the end of August.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/sVy6tPHoSD7RWmz64V3OtdMWtEmdCkoiv9hx26zq.png

I think we had a good summer on the pitch, plenty of goals, wins and good performances, we expectedly lost the two we did end up losing so I can't complain with those results at all.

Blackpool - August 2024

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Jm0LXkEuQOKNlF7cRD66ht3DlxG6U2vXgZpDixCK.png

So into August we go, my first competitive month in charge of Blackpool and the highest tier of football I would have managed at here in England. My reputation was clearly upon the rise and whilst the board didn't agree to sending me on my coaching qualifications, its fair to say the players were backing me this season, results showed!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/pKbwbmfDcP8skmxg7h9o91t4xA2mN0Xd6Q8k1IDm.png

What a month! What a defence! This was by far the best month I think I've been in control of to date in this whole career. Six games, six wins and not a single goal conceded! We've been superb winning five from five in the League whilst also advancing to the Second Round of the Capital One Cup.

The season and my reign at Blackpool would begin at home with a two nil win against Doncaster. We started slowly and left it till the second half as Berget nette seven minutes after the restart and Keown netted just four minutes from time.

The Capital One Cup was a sail for us in the first round we hosted Hartlepool and dispatched them three nil. Saadi netted two in the first half whilst Berget netted his second in as many games between Saadi's two goals. Three nil at half time and we could rest some players for league action.

Our first away game of the season came travelling to Notts Co who we narrowly dispatched by a single goal to nil Filograno, on loan from Southampton, guided us to the three points.

Back at home we welcomed Scunthorpe and beat them two nil, our second two nil win this season. Mantom netted after twenty four minutes giving us control of the game. Once again we left it late to put it beyond doubt when Hourilhane netted five minutes from time.

Our biggest win to date came on the road at Port Vale as we recorded a four nil win. We played brilliant and started superbly as Keown netted after four minutes and Saadi made it two nil in twenty. Byt the break Berget had one as well. Second half we dominated but it wasn't until five minutes into injury time when we added our fourth through Bailey.

We'd end the month welcoming my most recent former employees, Coventry who we beat three nil as they provided very little competition. Mantom netted his second of the season to give us the lead before Brown made it two nil come the break. There was a third just five minutes after the restart as we strolled to victory.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/HKKgA7ILt2SoIO0UrCbhUvsIMWEFDdyulIV4vDBC.png

Top of the table and two points breathing space already, we really can't complain at the way we've started the season, would be brilliant if we can keep this run going a little longer. Bradford, Colchester and Crewe have also gone unbeaten in the opening five league games whilst Bolton, who were also relegated last year are down the bottom end already.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/pA22j1JEZCov7rbUY59jNFSUZTHBlvrbuT7p7qSM.png

That will do nicely, a couple more of them along the way this season and we'll be there or there abouts come the end!

Well, there isn't too much to say about last month that I didn't say already! It was a superb start with our defence holding out very well and a personal momento for me taking the first League One manager of the month for the opening month of the season. Now for us to try and keep our form.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/eYEerGKOv7vC2N9zYhO9YQ9rJzftY6gvzoU4K0HD.png

Well its not quite the same as last month but we really can't complain at what we've done throughout September. We held our own, performed well in the Capital One Cup, the League and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

We kicked off the month away at Premier League club Fulham and dealt them a blow. We trailed two nil in twenty minutes and looked out of it. But we thought back. Saadi making it two one and Bailey netting after the break to see it two all at Full Tie. Into Extra time and on the stroke of half time Bailey gave us the lead and Casasola made it four two shortly after, sending us through to the Third Round.

We continued our fine league action without conceding a goal as we welcomed Colchester and beat them two nil. Both our goals came from one man as Kenneth Brown netted in the fourteenth minute and the ninety second minute to seal all three points.

Our run in the Johnstones Paint Trophy began with a trip to Accrington in the First Round who we beat comfortably five one. Goals from Brown, Berget, Saadi, Bailey and Hourihane secured the win and our passage to round two.

Back to league action and we finally conceded a couple goals, maintained our winning run though as we beat Bradford four two Baldwin netted twice for us whilst Hourihane had one and Saadi made it four for us. Braford put up a fight but weren't getting back in this.

We travelled to another Premier League club in the Capital One Cup, this time the Third Round drew us on the road to Charlton and well, we fell to our first defeat with me in charge. Despite Carasola bringing us back at one a piece we did in fact end up losing four one, we can't complain at that though.

And to end the month, back on winning ways as we beat Chesterfield two one. Our goals came from Brown, who netted in the eleventh minute and Bailey, netting three minutes into the second half. We conceded late on.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/E8dOqyfOAApNgKkW1BdGKHxu17mT6Qnk9OL5Exbl.png

Eight league games played, eight league games won, two points clear of the remaining pack and two games in hand, win them both and we'll have more than a comfortable margin! Hopefully we can maintain this gap, we may even be able to break the one hundred point barrier for a fourth season running, but we'll take that step later on.

Blackpool - October 2024

Going into October unbeaten in the league and still in the Johnstones Paint Trophy meant things were going just fine and we weren't in a place to grumble. We sat top of the league, with games in hand and a little gap, but we'd have to continue being brilliant if we wish to stay up there.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/StEfMIhz6MjIzurLk8QGAb9OTgie6V2xpgJ1cLWe.png

A very busy October was on the schedule for us with us travelling to and back from home constantly and playing a massive amount of games. In twenty eight days we played eight times, seeing us win six, draw one and fall to one narrow defeat, our first league defeat this season. We also advanced through the Johnstones Paint Trophy again.

It began with a trip to Tranmere who we beat four one. Brown netted twice, one in each half, whilst Casasola netted a penalty and Saadi grabbed a goal as well, we blew the host away.

Two at home, firstly beating Oldham two one. We were trailing one nil at the break but came back to win. Hogg netting to put us level whilst Saadi made it two one thirteen minutes from time.

Our first of two clean sheets this month came at home, welcoming Bolton in the Johnstones Paint Trophy Second Round. It was stalemate at half time but we produced a much better second half. Berget and Saadi netting to guide us through.

We beat struggling Sheffield Wednesday away from home three one. Brown gave us the lead but it was level at one a piece at half time. Second half Wabara made it two one before Argentine defender Casasola netted late into injury time.

And our winning ways continued as we welcomed Bolton to Blakpool for the second time this month, this time in the League where we claimed a late two one win. We led through Baldwin after sixteen minutes. Second half it was level but an own goal two minutes from time saw us claim a two one win.

But our first defeat did come, as we took a trip to Bristol City losing out four three. We weren't brilliant, our goals came form Berget, who netted twice whilst Griffiths netted late to try and get us back in it.

We returned to winning ways as we welcomed and beat York one nil. Baldwin netting in the sixty seventh minute sent us through.

The month ended with a two a piece draw away at Gillingham. Both our goals came after we trailed. Brown netted to level at one a piece then netted a minute from the end to secure a point.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/g4uDTYB3fezj6mubcIadHdMAp2j7qJpMGBrS6Hmb.png

Top after fifteen games, eight points clear still and we are running away a little, be happy if we can sit ten points clear come the end of the calender year, a couple months to go until we are there though.

Blackpool - November 2024

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Jm0LXkEuQOKNlF7cRD66ht3DlxG6U2vXgZpDixCK.png

November was to be a bit of a quieter month on the pitch for us, mind you, most months will be quieter than October thats just passed where we faced eight games in twenty eight days. It was to be a very good and pleasing month for us November, as we found plenty of success.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/DyCZ5P6Y0ArYRbS54yJ7sAROkkKdmLnvjxpehBHU.png

A perfect month in all competitions for us! November saw us end up playing six games, four in the league which saw us picking up four wins and one clean sheet. Whilst we also won in the FA Cup First Round and the Johnstones Paint Trophy Quarter Final (N). We ended up facing three West Country sides this month to, Swindon, Plymouth and Yeovil!

We began in Swindon in league action, picking up a narrow three two victory. We led through an own goal, former Yeovil defender Aaron Martin and Saadi putting us two up at the break. We went three nil up straight after through Mantom before switching off, conceding twice.

We beat Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup First Round, two goals to nil, they provided little competition. Both our goals coming in the first half through Casasola and Brown.

We then welcomed Bradford for our first home game this month, the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Quarter Final, we dispatched them four two. Saadi netted a hatrick as he was superb whilst Bailey also found the net for us.

We secured only our second clean sheet of the month as we welcomed Plymouth back in league action. Another great showing from us saw us run out four nil winners. Filograno netting two on loan whilst Balwin and Hogg also netted, all four goals came in the first half.

We then travelled to Walsall who we beat five two. We were four nil up in twenty six minutes. Saadi netted a twelve minute hatrick with Brown also netting one. Walsall had one before the break with Berget then restoring our four goal lead after the restart. We conceded a second but in truth it was an easy win.

As was our final game of the month, a trip to my beloved Yeovil Town who we comfortably beat four one here. We did go behind but thought back. Company making it level after eighteen minutes. Second half Berget netted two spot kicks in eight minutes with Casasola netting in between them.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/k49xITsoI4qLp055n7f15PfIvPTCaLX49boVyGPk.png

Nineteen league games played and we are already on fifty two points, that one hundred points tally is definitely in my sights again for a fourth season running and with a third different side! But we shall see. We are now fourteen points clear of second place Colchester and eighteen points clear of Coventry in third and Crewe in fourth.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/N0gz6qxdr80abPyNsAEmgYcEzXoOhr8CNptbqhbJ.png

Blackpool - December 2024

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Jm0LXkEuQOKNlF7cRD66ht3DlxG6U2vXgZpDixCK.png

The festive month was once again spent in the lovely cold and wet side of England, being in Blackpool just made it wetter to! But we aren't doing too bad, well, thats one way of looking at it anyway. It was going to be a busy old month. Actually, we'd end up playing more games in one place than we did in Blackpool this month.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/TlGLC5koMfJVHEqXWJd5xeb6vYcbq400TQTmzU0Y.png

Well, December didn't go too badly. As you can see we only faced one game at home all month, which fell on Boxing day whilst we played Huddersfield at their ground three times this month in three different competitions. Four wins, one draw that led to a shootout win and then a defeat to end the calender year on a sour note.

The month began on the road at Huddersfield, the first of three trips there this month. The FA Cup Second Round saw us beat them with three second half goals to win three nil. Hogg, Filograno and Berget securing our spot in the Third Round where we'll face Championship side Peterborough.

Next, staying in Huddersfield, Johnstone's Paint Trophy Semi Final and a narrow penalty shootout win. We led through Berget netting in the thirty third minute. But conceded second half and it ended one a piece after full time and extra time. We went on to win the shootout four two. In the Northern Final we'll face Oldham.

Then came a record breaking win, a seven four victory over Rochdale saw us break the league record for most goals in a game. Our seven came from five people. Saadi netted first, Mantom, Filograno and Keown all also nette whilst Jo Inge Berget netted a superb hatrick to help us on our way.

Staying away from home we travelled to Doncaster and beat them four goals to win. We trailed one nil early on. We levelled just after the break through Saadi before Berget nette from the spot kick and Bailey and Mantom went on to add late goals securing the win.

At home we grabbed a Boxing Day win, one of the first in ages I think. We welcomed Derby and narrowly beat them two nil, picking up just our second clean sheet of the month. Saadi netted in the seventh minute whilst Brown netted just six minutes from time securing the win.

There would be a third trip to Hudersfield this month which would end the month and calender year and it was a sour one. We lost out three one after taking the lead through Berget.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/iWv0g2V1oyebkCC5ImhPNs42p61eq8wqY9nDU8me.png

So, twenty three league games played, marks the halfway spot of the 2024/2025 league One season and things are going more than to plan this year, if we continue this then we'll secure promotion very soon. Currently sitting a massive nineteen points clear at the top going into th New Year is superb whilst we sit twenty five points from York who are the first side outside the playoff spots. Its brilliant to see Coventry doing so well, sitting in third, maybe I didn't have to leave, I'm glad I did though as this life at Blackpool is fun and easy!

A New Year by the coast, plenty of fireworks, plenty of action happening to kick star the new calender year. Another one in England as well, a busy old January, as usual with me, nothing happened in the transfer window, I just about managed to keep hold of inform striker Saadi despite growing bids from teams.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0UpGApI2K7LAyj4tPdA3KT2mYAb092VVOSbyWA6X.png

Definitely can't complain with the way we've performed over the opening month of the New Year. With the league title in sites we laid down the gauntlet, winning all five league games, claiming a first leg win in the JPT Final North whilst narrowly missing out in the FA Cup.

First up, we welcomed in the New Year at home, welcoming Crewe who we beat comfortably three one. Saadi netting inside the first minute whilst Filograno netted three minutes into the second half and then again with just under half an hour remaining. We conceded once but no biggy.

The FA Cup saw us narrowly miss out on a spot in the Fourth Round, we travelled to Championship side Peterborough and slipped to a one nil defeat.

I was glad it didn't affect our league form as we travelled to Scunthorpe and beat them three nil, a strong performance from the back line. Saadi netted twice for us, one in either half whilst Brown also found himself on the scoresheet.

The First Leg of the Johnstones Paint Trophy North Final saw us travel to Oldham who we beat three two. We almost blew a three nil lead. Baldwin, Saadi and Berget put us three up, we conceded twice in the second half but edged through here.

At homer we welcomed Port Vale and grabbed a brilliant five one victory. Saadi nette twice in the first half, seeing us two nil up. After the break we conceded one and left it very late to put it to bed, in the last ten minutes Bailey, Baldwin and Wabara all netted for us.

Our second clean sheet of the month came as we welcomed Notts Co and won two nil. Both goals in the final fifteen minutes with defender Zidane and then Bailey finding the target.

The month would end at a former ground of mine as we travelled to Coventry and played out a five four victory. Very strange game, we were two nil up in three minutes and three up in fifteen as Brown, Saadi and Berget netted. Berget ended the game with a hatrick, converting two spot kick.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/2zOjjRxOZ2TV4glxJZRk5ZH57TEHf1MgjzY9l16U.png

Looks like my strong praise on Coventry last month went down hill a bit as they dropped from third place outside of the playoff spots now, hopefully just a minor blip and they'll be back in contention soon. We move twenty one points clear with eighteen games to go this season.

Blackpool - February 2025

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Jm0LXkEuQOKNlF7cRD66ht3DlxG6U2vXgZpDixCK.png

The month of love was upon of, February, and there wasn't much time for loving here, I had a job to do with Blackpool and to date it was a job that was being succeeded, although I think it was anyway! February was a busy month, but one we coped with very well.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ixabCnx4vo3RHHo17WeHG2Fq2leDDJnRYNWBiH8o.png

As I said, we coped very well with the busy run of fixtures, we played seven matches, came away with five wins, one draw and just the one defeat which ended the month on a sour note. However things went smoothly enough.

We began welcoming struggling Sheffield Wednesday who we put to the sword in this three nil victory. Two nil up in thirteen minutes as Mantom and Berget both netted. A late own goal saw us across the line.

The Second leg of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy North saw us welcome Oldham and beat them three two once again. Our three goals came first just as they did in the first leg, Berget netting two penalties in thirteen minutes with Saadi grabbing one as well. The Final will see us play Colchester in March.

Back to league action we travelled to Colchester and we beat them two nil. Filograno and Hourihane both netting first half goals.

We welcomed Tranmere and beat them four one, another comfortable showing from my side. Saadi netted either side of the break with Zidane netting a first half goal in between. Bailey made it three nil before we conceded the consolation goal.

A trip to Bradford saw us finish level pegging, the title challengers gave us a run for our money. Berget put us ahead but it was level at the break and come the end

A home game welcoming Chesterfield saw us run out two nil winners. Kenneth Brown netting both goals in the first half.

We'd end the month away at Oldham and slip to a three nil defeat though. Despite beating them three two twice over the last month or so we lost here, poor performance.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/JKxDwt92WGiNGdPk9JJNoXYVnIzXdCO2VtKetspU.png

Lets hope the defeat to Oldham isn't the start of a massive rot out of form! Hopefully its just a one off where we played poorly. We now move twenty eight points clear of the chasing pack leaving us in control and just eleven points off hitting the fine one hundred points again!

Blackpool - March 2025

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Jm0LXkEuQOKNlF7cRD66ht3DlxG6U2vXgZpDixCK.png

Into March, the penultimate month of the league season, except for one day in May anyway. But with the season looking bright it was time for some fringe players to get some game time, however not that regularly, I still wanted to break goal scoring records in the league and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy this month to.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/LvKl77MVjbqd5JZ64xBB0YiQURSwDnSBtahMYUHH.png

Despite losing out to Gillingham at the start of the month, which saw us face back to back defeats, we soon went back on a winning run, with five further games, we won all four in the league, but how did we fare in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final against Colchester.

We went on to have back to back defeats as we lost at home to Gillingham, poor showing. Two nil down at the break, we came back with Griffiths netting but we lost out.

A trip to Bolton saw us back on winning ways, two one victory for us but we left it late. Saadi put us ahead before the host levelled by half time. Second half just five minutes from time Berget got us all three points.

At home welcoming Bristol City we won three one, another good showing. Baldwin netting him after nine minutes with Berget netting from the spot to put us two up. Second half we conceded one but Zidane netted in injury time.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/mI22qYqURKiImldk3A4GQQI5awlQcjNOq5B78CvF.png

The league title was clinched with eight games to go as we beat York City three one away from home. An own goal by their keeper in the opening minute sent us on our way. We conceded before the break. Second half Mantom and Bailey netted to secure the win and the league title for us.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/HZQ9iILhtHyclZBoDD4FSm5VpFambDsFv3mGWxZe.png

The double secured! The Johnstone's Paint Trophy is ours just five days after scooping the league title as we beat Colchester. Saadi gave us the lead after just eighteen minutes with Bailey making it two nil after twenty one minutes. Bailey made it three nil just fifteen minutes from time before Colchester netted a consolation Final goal.

A trip to Plymouth saw us end March with a six goal thriller as we won four two. Our goals came from two men, Casasola netted our first before Berget went on to net a hatrick for us.

So the league title is ours, the one hundred goals mark is surpassed with ease as we've netted one hundred and ten and we have also now hit over one hundred points, currently sitting on one hundred and one points and we've still got seven games to play this season! Coventry look like they'll miss out which will be a shame!

Important that you got that JPT this year or you would have had to drop back down to League 1 to try and win it at some point in the future!

Have you been thinking of your next step? Going to stick with Blackpool or find a Championship contender and do the same thing you did this season?
