This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 15 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, with 26 media files added to encompass all major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all these files to work, however, you will need to start a new game.
Magrippinho very helpfully created a YouTube video on how this file should be installed. Some of the contents are different - but the procedure is identical, although of course you use the equivalent folder for FM15.
Or, you can follow the below instructions to install v2.0 of this file (if you are installing a previous version please use the 1500 folder instead of the 1530 folder:
Step 1: Go to
PC
Slightly more detail in this post
Linux
Step 2: Delete the edt and lnc folders from the folder above
Step 3: Copy the edt and lnc folder from this download into the folder mentioned in step 1.
Step 4: Go to:
Step 6: Keeping the folder in step 5 open, go back to the file you downloaded and select the folder named "FM15 Real Names Fix Files from sortitoutsi.net v2.0".
Step 7: Paste the circled folder directly into the folder mentioned in step 5.
Step 8: This should be what your editor data folder looks like. There may also be a config.xml file in this folder and can be safely retained; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. Club names (including the German ones) are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.

I don't have a data/db/1500 folder anywhere.
The only options available to me are 'db setups' and 'editor data'
My game seems to be unable to read some of the lnc files or the edt files.
I have tried housing those in both 'db setups' and 'editor data' but they just won't read. Something must be working because the club names are real, but I don't have any German national team, nor are the European club competitions correctly named.
On the German league teams, the stadium names are correct and so too are the club names, I just don't get why I can't have the competition names and the german national team working as well. I did notice that at one stage when i moved stuff around, Milan changed to A.C Milan, but still the European competition names never changed, nor did the german national team appear.
Also for reference, that Mac instruction for this is out of date, nowhere in the Football Manager 15 folder is there a data/db/1500 folder, so it's just guess work for us laymen!
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

The 2 folders you mention are in the user data folder, generally to be found within Documents.
The edt and lnc folders are within the Steam installation folder so no wonder they aren't working for you. Apparently some of the folders required are hidden automatically on Macs, but there's a small guide on how to view them. Does it not help you? I'm afraid I use Windows and so I can't really help. I'd appreciate if anybody who solved this issue could explain in laymen's terms how to do it for fellow Mac users.
That's only the folder path if you have a 64-bit OS.

My Inc & Edt files are located in the following directory and work no problems :
User/**username**/Library/Application Support/Steam/Steam Apps/Common/Football Manager 2015/data/db/1500 (as stated in the original install instructions)
To get the Library folder to show in either Mavericks or Yosemite, whilst in Finder, access the "Go" top menu and whilst that is highlighted, press the "alt" key which will show the library menu in the "Go" list

This has now worked, I think I was fooled into thinking I was doing the right thing because the kits and face packs worked from the User location.
I now have the right names and the German national team. The only thing that hasn't updated though are the little competition badges (starred football for champions league etc) is this meant to be part of the same update or is this something i'd have to download separately?
Thanks

It fixes the German and Japanese national team call ups. I'm not aware there's any issue with the South Korean national team
Let's have a look at the contents of your lnc folder please.
Persee
Here it is
(Japanese club names are wrong, the players also have fake names/greyed out names unless I don't insert the media files)
Thanks for helping out

Perhaps you should ask the creator of whichever other file(s) you are using, since it all works perfectly fine on my setup:
Persee
Well how does your lnc folder looks like? Does it look the same or not? Did you install the Japan's league by widehawk as well?
mons
Persee
But how do you have correct names for Japanese teams? Do you also have the correct squads? If yes what did you install to have them?

I have the 3 lnc files from this download and that's it. The Japanese club names are correct when I load up the pre-game editor. I have not downloaded anything else and therefore don't have the full Japanese squads, sorry.
Can you give me a screenshot to explain what your problem seems to be? Are you starting a new game when this happens or is this in your existing saved game?
I'm afraid this is a restriction in the editor and any modifications therein will be displayed in all the languages of the game, not just in English. To work around it, either don't load the Club Name Changes editor data file or open it with the editor and amend any changes you do not want to see...
Persee
My problem is: I have incorrect Japanese team neames (Sakai for Cerezo Osaka, Osaka FC for Gamba Osaka etc...), and the squads are all greyed out with fake names, unless I don't include the media files from this download. (Without media files I get the correct squads but still fake team names)
I really have no idea what to do I tried everything

Apart from the files in this real name fix, I also run my self-created Maltese league database, some of nik33's files and some of claasen's league files. In all the cases, team names are displayed correctly on my setup. Could you load the pre-game editor and check whether Japanese club names are displayed correctly therein when no editor data files are loaded? If yes, then it's an editor data file at your end which is making the game display them wrongly - not much I can do about that.
I've experimented a bit to try to isolate the issue and, depending on the various combinations of files loaded at my end, either some of the J-League 1 squads are loaded but others not, or none of the J-League 1 squads are loaded but some lower league squads are full while others are partial etc etc.
Running widehawk's file in isolation is fine, but as soon as other editor data files are loaded alongside it, issues seem to start appearing, unfortunately. Let me clarify, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with his file as it's clearly a labour of love, very thorough and one I would love to have loaded in my save games. However, I suspect it's a bug either with how the editor creates files or with how FM "reads" them when starting a new game or with how it manages the various combinations of editor data files. There's not much that I or anybody else, apart from SI, can do about that, which is a shame...
Persee
I checked and I have incorrect team names in the editor as well when there are no files in editor data.
