Poor Ronaldo, having to play with such appalling players. If only he'd have had the luxury of playing in a decent side at any point in his career.

What dream midfield? Name the exact midfield you think is playing behind Messi

There is a huge difference between the players Ronaldo had behind him and the simply world class pairing of Xavi and Iniesta

Just looking at the Wiki stats you could say Ronaldo's level As he has outscored Messi. Messi from 2004 has 276 goals in 307 games. whereas CR7 since 2009 has 214 in 197 games. 5 years difference and that is all there is. Just look at their records elsewhere as well.

Waste of time anyhow. The greatest forward ever is the real Ronaldo.

If the real Ronaldo hadn't had his injury and weight issues, then I think he would've been the greatest striker ever. He is still my favourite ever striker though.

Completely different player, Ronaldo and Messi both really started as midfielders/wingers, not out and out forwards yet have absolutely blasted Ronaldo's goal scoring record

Messi goals and assists this season, 66.

Ronaldo goals and assists this season, 65.

In terms of influencing the amount of goals their team scores, they're pretty much equal this season.

Hard to compare imo. Brazil Ronaldo played in a different era when pure strikers were the zenith.

He would probably have to play more like Benzema does now. Less goals but a better team player.

I love fat Ronaldo, but he's not close to C. Ronaldo or Messi, no one is.

They're miles above anyone else currently.

It's impossible to know how good fat Ronaldo would have been had he been born in this generation with all the advancements. I'm sure his weight would have been kept under control much better and perhaps the surgeries and rehabilitation for the injuries he suffered would have been better.

Still be very hard to imagine him being on the same level as Ronaldo or Messi, those two are just freaks.

Ronaldo was a beast in a time when football was a lot more physical and you had rocks in defence and midfield. Now we have the Busquets and the Pepes.

For me Ronaldo is far better and it can't be changed.

Would have loved to see more of Ronaldo at his peak, unfortunately injuries in the late 90's/very early 00's while at Inter slowed him down massively. He was still quick afterwards and obviously the technical side of his game remained, but by all accounts he was absolutely electric before those knee injuries.

That's true.

Ronaldo, Batistuta, etc, absolute monsters. Players like Shearer, Christian Vieri too. Paddy Kluivert, Crespo, Salas. What an era, wish I could have seen more of them, the current game needs more proper strikers.

Remember striker partnerships?

Also regarding Ronaldo don't forget that Brazil placed two World Cup campaigns on his shoulders. C Ronaldo and Messi haven't exactly carried their nations to success.

The closest this gen got was Drogba and he was a diving fanny. Although maybe Zlatan could be included.

This generation seems more technical and geared towards those behind the strikers. So when you get good players up top then they seem so much more. Having seem the likes of who you mentioned I don't rate them though although I do respect how much they can do with the ball.

Ronaldo and Cantona were my gods as a child. They will always be my favourites, but yeah aside from generational differences it's hard to argue that they are as good all round footballers as C. Ronaldo and Messi. That being said Ronaldo is still probably the best finisher I've ever seen.

Bergkamp was a far better all rounder than those two.. He could tackle for a start.

Good stuff, hope Real lose. They'll probably get some dodgy penalty or decision go in their favour though.
