Another cracking game today. But another game where we really should have come away with all the points. After having three disallowed last week, we had two disallowed this (Wells somehow being offside despite running onto a ball played from the dead ball line was a mystifying decision), hit the post and played well. Blackburn benefited from a very dubious first goal, when Gestede clearly pushed Hudson out of the way before going for a header, and very slack defending resulted in the second - our defence apparently hasn't worked out that leaving Jordan Rhodes unmarked six yards out isn't a good idea. Butterfield scored a cracking free-kick from the angle of the penalty area to get us back in it, Wells had his goal disallowed, and then Lolley scored a fantastic goal from the edge of the box.

My impression of Blackburn was of an average side who would be in the bottom third of the table without the two strikers. They lack invention and creativity and have too many jobbing journeymen to be a promotion side. Selling one or the other and investing in a quality midfield would actually benefit them, because on the day our midfield was by far superior.

The race to promotion to League One is going down to the wire.

We won against Wimbledon and Wycombe's cock up against Morecambe means Southend are in third position now, two points ahead of us and three points ahead of Wycombe. Next week, Southend play away at Morecambe, Wycombe also play away at Northampton and we are playing Tranmere away, who themselves were relegated to the Conference today. With them and Cheltenham going down, and the play-offs being 99% in place now, it's all about that final 3rd automatic promotion spot. BRING IT ON!

Congratulations to Barnet, we didn't capitalise when they dropped points and they've headed the Conference for a long-time. On the bright side, we go into the pay-offs off the back of 1 defeat in 29 and a 7-0 hammering of Alfreton. Justice will not be served if we don't join Barnet back in the league.

That's exactly what we are. The fact that we've finished 9th with Rhodes and Gestede in the team is absolutely criminal, and makes me wonder if we can only come 9th when we do have them, next season will be frightening when we'll probably be without them both.

Hope to god Bury go up automatically, I reckon we've a chance against the other teams in the play offs.

Strikers normally are somewhat replaceable.

Watford went from Vydra to Deeney to Ighalo being red hot.
Ipswich from McGoldrick to Murphy
Newcastle from Carroll to Best to Ba to Cisse to Ba to Remy to Cisse.

I'm sure Scott McDonald or Leigh Griffiths or Noel Hunt will score 20 next year.....

3-0 win for Bournemouth means they are effectively promoted to the Premier League, barring a 20 goal swing. Although kudos to the guy running Charlton's Twitter for his attempt to promise an interesting end: https://twitter.com/CAFCofficial/status/592789244357255168

You're probably right, but we're still under a transfer embargo! Although not sure if that'll change or not if/when Rhodes and Gestede leave.

Congratulations to Bournemouth and Howe, incredible achievement.

That's fantastic! Howe is the most promising English manager out there now?

Bit of a hard one to judge - Bournemouth have had money and always had an upward trajectory about them. He came unstuck at Burnley though.

imo his CV is less impressive than Dyche or Lambert's was at the point of promotion.

I'd say his CV is more impressive than Dyche's was this time last year, but only as Dyche had only ever managed at Championship level. Lambert is more close-run though. Nigel Adkins was also looking good when Southampton got promoted, although its seemed to have come unstuck for him since he signed up for Reading.

Nevertheless, and even with the cash, going from the basement end of League Two to the Premier League in six years is still a hell of an achievement.

Localish game with Wigan and a big club coming down in Millwall. League One got a whole lot more attractive to me

I'm glad Wigan and Millwall are down, but ffs I would have preferred Rotherham. Mainly because of the twat that is Steve Evans.

Bit poor taste to then say "Enjoy League One" to them in his post-match press conference. Even if a Millwall player had started it.

Nightmare that Wigan got relegated.

Just wish Whelan was still in charge - wonder if he's broke his leg playing in league one too?

Back where they belong.

Historically, maybe, but I'm a bit disappointed for them. They've tried to build a core of young support and encourage locals to get along to their games, and League One won't do anything for them. Still, if you can't score goals you won't stay up and fans won't come through the doors. They've not had a proper striker for months, which is what's cost them imo. Better defensively than most in the bottom half, but just no firepower to get them points.

I want to congratulate Bournemouth, but I don't buy this 'incredible story' thing. The money has taken the edge off their achievement a little. Remember, their strike force alone cost about £8m, with Wilson and Rantie a combined £6m. Still, other clubs have spent massive money (Nottingham Forest, for instance) and got nowhere. This is a tough league, and it's a real achievement to get out of it even with money, even when most clubs are cutting their cloth.

And on Rotherham - can't expect Steve Evans to be the bigger man. Cracking quote, mind, even if it lacks in class.

Would be great to see Ipswich go up. Only paid money for about 2 of their players plus they aren't that far from me so it could mean an away game to go to!

I guess I'm impressed by the Bournemouth stuff because of the whole thing with the club nearly dying off on several occasions, including the much discussed episode in 2008. Sure, the current incarnation has plenty of cash behind it and it has plenty of players that weren't exactly cheap, but its still an impressive turnaround in a brief amount of time.

Agreed on the hopes of the extremely cheaply assembled Ipswich going up though.

Genuinely feel sick about today. Nervous ain't the word. Only thing that keeps me positive. It's all about Southend. They've got it all to lose, we can only win. Please god be good to us today

Good luck for your second leg on Sunday! Here's hoping we make it to Wembley too for what should be a good game!

Blackpool fans have stopped their game with Huddersfield with a pitch invasion.

Meanwhile, as it stands, a pretty woeful looking Derby are sinking out of the play-offs on the final day.

No, it isn't. I get that why they're protesting and support the reasons, but the means are wrong. Plain and simple. You can't stop a football match - it's that simple. Protest in the stands all you want, but if it spills over onto the pitch it's gone too far.

They've been protesting in the stands for over a year with no change. Clearly they felt more drastic measures were required.

Match abandoned.

Three points, please.

Update: fans have got onto the directors balcony and have been physically violent. Stopped from getting to Oyston by police. I sense half a dozen games will be played behind closed doors.

They may as well just give the three points to Huddersfield, there's absolutely no point in replaying it. It'd move Leeds down a place too. And well done Blackpool fans, something drastic had to be done so fair play to them.

3-2 win for us today, Rhodes and Gestede at it again. Last game for David Dunn, he's been a superb player for us and he still stands out every time he plays as the most technically gifted player on the pitch. Top man Dunny!

I disagree, they've got every right to do it. They love their club and their owners are treating it like shit, it shows what fan power can do.

Agreed. They shouldn't just sit there watching their club get beat every week while the club is being ruined by Oyston.
